I like Science Fiction, Fantasy and end of the world movies. I wonder who out there likes them too.

Here are a few that I like in no particular order.

Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, THX1138, Logans Run, Planet of the Apes, Star Wars, Demolition Man, Conan, Krull, Sword and the Sorcerer, Excalibur, 1984, Six String Samurai, Minority Report. There are a few off the top of my head. I'm looking for good movies. Any recommendations?

Pinocchio - The Disney Versions and the 1996 Version with Martain Landau and Jonathen Taylor Thomas.

Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

These are said to be kids only movies but I still like them because they contain some science fiction/fantasy elements and also show the children of Dr. Spock style "Progressive" upbringing getting their JUST DESSERTS before they can grow up and inflict that "Progressivism" on the rest of us. (Turning into donkeys, turning into human fudge bars, blueberries, spoiled garbage and television/teleportation generated toffee pull sticks).

Pinocchio

I never would have guessed. I thought you would have said something like Godzilla or something. If you like old movies and TV shows give netflix a try. It is very reasonably priced. I think I'm gonna watch some Rockford files in a few.

Stoney...Forbidden Planet is probably one of the greatest Sci Fi films ever made. It's the movie that gave us Robby The Robot.

Also, I have a recollection of Michael Jackson making a very good sci-fi movie that I took my older son to and actually enjoyed. Capitain EOS, I think it was called and I think Lucas - or one of thhe big names from the 80's - directed it. I'll look it up in a bit.

I'm a big fan of the Jody Foster film, Contact and if you haven't seen Blade Runner, you should.

Captain EO

In between banging out The Cotton Club and Peggy Sue Got Married, Francis Ford Coppola stepped into Disney studios, paired up with the hottest pop star of all time, Michael Jackson, and created one of the most unforgettable science fiction journeys ever created for the silver screen. Jackson, coming off of the huge success of Thriller, stepped into the title role of this 3-D Disneyland adventure, where he battles against the forces of The Supreme Leader (Anjelica Huston); meanwhile, George Lucas and many of his Star Wars collaborators worked behind the scenes to create a universe populated with palpable evil, hair- raising action, and of course, some lovable companions for our hero. Additionally, this film was one of the earliest to employ 3-D without using red- and-blue glasses, making it a technical trailblazer as well, but with some terrific action, prime footage of Michael Jackson, and the sure hand of director Coppola, Captain EO remains one of the most beloved and enjoyable sci- fi films; now all we need is for Disney to release the darn thing on DVD. -TG

I like bad Comedies (Airplane, Naked Gun, etc) and GOOD Science Fiction. Unfortunately, there is very little GOOD Science Fiction.

I just found a site listing the 100 Greatest Sci-Fi movies of all time.

I'll tell you what I think of a few of them:

#1. 2001: A Space Odyssey

I've actually tried to watch this on several occasions. It's so boring that I fell asleep each time.

#2. Star Wars: Episode whatever...

This is not science fiction. It's science fantasy. The beautiful princess, knights in shining armor with their sabers, etc. The science is really junk too, e.g,. they can only jump to light speed, yet they quickly move across an entire galaxy, which may span 100,000 light years across. Complete crap.

#12. Jurassic Park series

This is what destroyed the movie industry. Poor story. Horrible acting. No character development. Great animation. After this, movies were all about cool animation and little else.

#13. Alien series

Horror / science combo. I generally dislike horror movies, but I like these because they are so well done.

#15. Back to the Future

Fun stories. Horrible science. Once you travel time, the effects are immediate. Polaroid snapshots don't change to predict upcoming events.

#17. Terminator series

Overall good. The story line is not exactly original -- machines getting smart and taking over the world is not new. However, they combine it with time travel and many bullets per minute.

#59. Predator

Absolutely. Why wouldn't an insectasoid from another planet come here to hunt primates? Good story. Ok acting. Bullets per minute. No crap physics to deal with.

70. Men in Black

Unique comedy meets science. Not good science, but what a fun movies

#73 The Matrix series

The first Matrix was compelling (the sequels were not). The science was ok. We could be living in a computer simulation (there is actually evidence that we are). However, our bodies probably wouldn't be powering the computer.

#84 Star Trek series

Mixed -- some great movies, some really lousy ones. Overall, the science is the best of any science fiction movies. Star Trek pays real scientists to make sure the science is plausible. It shows.

Try The Ring, but see the Japanese version Ringu first.

"Our quest for the lesser evil has arrived at an impasse. On one hand we have a world-class Doublethinker who expects us to thank him for keeping promises he has vigorously broken and to accept the cynical notion that war is peace. On the other we have a mob of flesh-eating galoots who promise to give us Orwell’s Hate Week 52 weeks a year for as long as it takes them to bring about Armageddon. " — Jeff Huber

Saw Predators a few weeks ago. It was surprisingly good. Up there with the original one.

My kids said that one was good. The ring. I'll have to watch it sometime. Another good one was "the eye" the Jap or Chink version.
