Palin: Don't burn Quran Sarah Palin added her name Wednesday to a growing list of national politicians asking a Florida pastor to reconsider his plans to burn the Quran on Sept. 11. "People have a constitutional right to burn a Quran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation — much like building a mosque at ground zero," Palin wrote on Facebook. The Rev. Terry Jones has shown no indication that he will back down from his plan to burn copies of the Islamic holy book with his small Florida congregation, declaring in a press conference Wednesday that he will go ahead with the event. Jones has been rebuked across the political spectrum, ranging from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to former Massachusetts GOP Gov. Mitt Romney. Palin warned on Wednesday that Jones may further incite tensions with the Muslim world, already sparked from the controversy swirling around a planned mosque near the World Trade Center site in Manhattan. "I would hope that Pastor Terry Jones and his supporters will consider the ramifications of their planned book-burning event," Palin wrote. "It will feed the fire of caustic rhetoric and appear as nothing more than mean-spirited religious intolerance. Don’t feed that fire. If your ultimate point is to prove that the Christian teachings of mercy, justice, freedom and equality provide the foundation on which our country stands, then your tactic to prove this point is totally counterproductive."
