Title: Retarded Freak Says God Not Needed to Create Universe

The Big Bang was the result of the inevitable laws of physics and did not need God to spark the creation of the Universe, Stephen Hawking has concluded. Photo: GETTY

The scientist has claimed that no divine force was needed to explain why the Universe was formed.

In his latest book, The Grand Design, an extract of which is published in Eureka magazine in The Times, Hawking said: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”

He added: “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going.”

In A Brief History of Time, Prof Hawking's most famous work, he did not dismiss the possibility that God had a hand in the creation of the world.

He wrote in the 1988 book: "If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason — for then we should know the mind of God.”

In his new book he rejects Sir Isaac Newton's theory that the Universe did not spontaneously begin to form but was set in motion by God.

In June this year Prof Hawking told a Channel 4 series that he didn't believe that a "personal" God existed. He told Genius of Britain: "The question is: is the way the universe began chosen by God for reasons we can't understand, or was it determined by a law of science? I believe the second. If you like, you can call the laws of science 'God', but it wouldn't be a personal God that you could meet, and ask questions."

Until his retirement last year Prof Hawking was Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, a post previously held by Newton.

The book, co-written by American physicist Leonard Mlodinow, is published on September 9.

Poster Comment: Hawking is an idiot. Here are some comments from the source. kkp 3 minutes ago Einstein, that silly clerk, remember him? In his Bio he said the main motivating factor that drove him was: If he were able to understand how the universe functioned, how physics worked, etc. then he would maybe be able to understand how the mind of God worked by understanding his creations. I was blown away by this and had assumed he was like many people of science now who run away as fast as they can from any "intelligent design" possibilites. I have 3 horses. They were engineered and built, natural selection, maybe, evolved from a one cell creature, no. samsamtheretiredman 26 minutes ago Ok, the "Perfessor" has identified the very first effect, but every effect must have a cause. When is he going to share that? clownhair 37 minutes ago Do people not realise the true cause of oppression? NARCISSISM. iteotwawki 3 minutes ago It's not a matter of will, it's a matter of Matter e.g. the stuff you look at and see around you. Next time you’re at the beach, pick up a grain of sand, look at it and then look all around you. Contemplate the universe and everything in it. Now imagine that everything in the universe came from, not that grain of sand, but something smaller but not something smaller, rather something that did not exist. If gravity, a physical property, where so great as to keep all non existent matter held together, then what was it that caused gravity to be overwhelmed with such force as to allow the Big Bang to occur. If you really want to bake your biscuit, imagine that all this is an illusion and that we and everything you see in the universe, exists in the mind of an infinite entity. Explaining why science cannot pinpoint our origin. Hawking’s theory is fiction. Todd Enders 45 minutes ago Hawking seems to think that the a Grand Unified Theory has actually been found, which would allow us to at least do the non-scientific retrogression to the Big Bang and beyond. Unfortunately, the Nobel Prize in Physics hasn't been awarded for that accomplishment as of yet. That being the case, Hawking is speaking purely out of speculation, rooted in his own philosphical bent. He has done much fascinating work, but even if such a theory were found and evidence discoverd which strongly supports it, it would still be assuming that understanding a dixie cup leads immediately to an understanding of all the processes that lead to it's existance. And even then, it does not lead to an understanding of why the laws of nature exist as they do in the first place. Perhaps he has further speculated that they are all quantum informational fluctuations. Talk about a God of the Gaps. When science declares what it can never demonstrate, it ceases to be science. 3 Nazism was a classical example of a narcissistic, secular cult - it was inspired in part by eugenics and lead by someone diagnosed with "psychopathic hysteria" in WWI. Societies which have tried to rid themselves of religions have replaced threm with something else, generally some kind of personality cult (with a narcissist at its head). Richard Dawkins is an arch narcissist and who knows what motivated Stephen Hawking, but anyway, two traits most striking about the average strong atheist are their blind spots and their ego.......

Whatever . . . maybe they were naive and didn't know the derogatory meaning of the term.

My point stands, however. It is much easier to denigrate, ridicule and demonize those we disagree with than to debate their ideas. I am guilty of that, as are you.

Skippy (who usually parrots you or has nothing of any substance to add), however, is the master. As is the owner of this site.

And it doesn't really help his cause

You drink kool aid.

When I was a kid I couldn't get enough of it...I'd freeze it in ice cube trays...

Grape was my favorite.

And I'm not talking about that "pre-sweetened" crap. We're talking the industrial one pack makes 2 quarts Kool-Aid that took 3-4 cups of sugar to get just right. You'd put about a pint of water in the jug and then dump the sugar in and get it good and mixed...then you'd add the Kool Aid and start topping off with water while tasting a long the way, kind of like a fine stew, until you got it JUST RIGHT. Hey, it had Vitamin C!!!

Calling Hawking a "retarded freak" is not only a pejorative, it is inaccurate.

He may be a lot of things, but retarded is hardly among them.

If I were asked about Hawking, the word "puzzling" might come to mind. As a Christian and a person of faith myself, I've always found it difficult to understand how anyone could look around at Creation and not believe there is a Creator. But there are people like that, and Hawking is apparently among them.

Perhaps it's his desire to understand everything. Hawking cannot totally understand God - so he simply rejects Him. In Hawking's world, something that cannot be understood cannot exist.

It all comes down to faith. Jesus talked about the faith of a little child. And faith is something that is difficult to explain.

It just is.

I'm an agnostic. I really don't care if there is a God or not. I can assure you that if there is one, he most certainly abandioned us years ago.

Regardless, Genesis itself speaks of the earth as dark and formless but with water. How could that happen?

So the question is a valid one.

I probably won't be able to answer the question to your satisfaction, but I'll take a stab at it.

As a Christian, I believe the Bible (both OT and NT) is God's revealed word. He progressively revealed it over about a period of 2000 years, through about 66 different people. Most of these people were not considered learned (although some, like King Solomon) were very wise. They were mostly nomadic people - shepherds, fishermen - the "common people" of the day.

Because of the way God chose to reveal His Word and His character, I can accept that the Bible isn't a book of science, but rather a manual on how to live. How to live with one's self, how to live with others, and most importantly how to live for and relate to God Himself.

The Genesis account of Creation is beautiful on several levels, but like I said it was given to a tribal, simple (but not stupid) people. If God had chosen to explain Quantum Physics to them, would they have understood? Would they have understood atomic theory? (Hell, I don't even understand it.)

I wasn't always a believer - in fact, I came to it rather late in life. Why did I choose Christianity over some other belief? Well, being born in the US (which is mostly under Judeo-Christian influence) I'm sure had something to do with it. Having a family background in Wesleyan traditions was probably another.

In any event, here I am - a believer in Jesus Christ. Christ was a proven historical figure - I do not believe that is in question. Many non-believers are fond of calling him a "good man" or a "good teacher" - but leaving it there.

Well, many controversial concepts are attributed to Christ - among them "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by Me." Now, that's pretty exclusive, isn't it? I mean, what about good Jews? Good Muslims? Even good atheists/agnostics?

How can one say "He was a good man/teacher" when they don't believe it when He said He was the only way to God? It's this simple - He was either who He said He was, or He was a lunatic. There's no middle ground.

Now, I've taken the long way around, and I truly haven't dodged your question. Here it is - I'll repeat it:

Who created God, dude?

My answer? No one. He always existed. He will always exist. He exists outside our concept of time.

You can be satisfied with that answer - or not. I am not a Theologian - just a lay-person.

If I haven't put you to sleep by now, and you wish to ask other questions, I'll attempt to answer them. Only you know your own heart, and your motive for asking your questions. I cannot judge nor will I judge.

I do ask, though, if your only motive is ridicule, that you not ask questions along this line. Just out of simple respect.

Have a great day, and a great weekend!

Regards,
"I.A."

Who created God, dude?

Current evidence (the universe is expanding) demonstrates that the universe has not always been here. Current evidence also demonstrates that the universe is not infinite. It's about 12.5 billion light years in diameter. Furthermore, there is evidence (quantum coupling) that the universe is a hologram. In addition, at a fundamental level, everything is made up of information.

Two questions:

What created the universe (what came before the big bang)?

What sits outside of the current universe?

Right now, God is as good an answer as anyone has.

First off, I appreciate the time you put into your response.

Secondly, I agree 100% with the above statement.

That all said, I am pretty sure that it's settled that the various books of the OT had hundreds of writers and editors throughout the millenia and that they were often updated or written to reflect contemporary issues. Much like any sermon would be.
