Title: Poll: GOP Takes Unprecedented Lead In House And Senate Races

Republicans lead Democrats 51% to 41% on a generic ballot heading into November's midterm election, the largest gap in favor of the GOP in Gallup's 68-year history of tracking the critical political benchmark.

The Republican lead has steadily increased from five percentage points earlier this month to the current 10 point spread, suggesting Republicans have the upper hand and momentum.

Previously, the largest GOP advantage measured by the poll, five points, was found in 2002 and 1994. Republicans made significant gains in the House both years.

"The last Gallup weekly generic ballot average before Labor Day underscores the fast-evolving conventional wisdom that the GOP is poised to make significant gains in this fall's midterm congressional elections," according to Gallup's website.

Republicans, meanwhile, are now twice as likely as Democrats to be "very" enthusiastic about voting, according to the poll. Half of Republican registered voters said they are "very" enthusiastic, compared with 28% of independents and 25% of Democrats.

The widest generic ballot lead in the poll's history was 32 points in Democrats' favor. That was measured in July 1974 before Republican President Richard Nixon resigned. In a generic ballot, pollsters ask whether voters are more likely to vote for a Republican or a Democrat for Congress. Subscribe to *Elections 2010*

So the good news is the Democrats are going to lose seats. The bad news is the Republicans are going to win them.

Should they take congress, it will certainly put the ball in their court and results will need to be realized before 2012.

Of course that isn't going to happen, which will illustrate the void in the GOP agenda and setting up President Obama for an easy re-election.

Some even speculate this is by design. I'm not ready to go there yet.

Owe-bama will veto anything the GOP offers up via the House or Senate - should they regain both.

Combined with the insane deficits, double digit unemployment, and the revival of the Carter era 'misery index', Owe-bama will remain on course to be a failed one term President.

There is no 'there, there' Brian S. And the whole nation sees it.

You're counting your chickens before they are hatched.

Clinton started out with a pretty radical agenda too. He raised taxes. Tried to push through a government run healthcare system. More.

After the GOP took control of Congress, Clinton got smart and started to compromise. They cut the capital gains tax, reformed welfare, cut a lot domestic programs, and put the country on a path to a balanced budget.

You have no idea what Obama's response will be if the GOP gains control of the Congress.

You also have no idea if the current GOP "leadership" will wake up from their decade long stupor and try to emulate Gingrich and Armey.

One thing is certain, after Bush and Obama I don't want to see one party control it all ever again.

Actually, I'm not counting anything, I just see the nation's mood.

Second, Owe-bama is a hardcore socialist, he'll veto most, if not all of any GOP legislation.

Third, the leadership that produced the 2006 blow out, which I agreed and supported, is no longer in Congress for the most part.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

Didn't we all? Even if we didn't support the candidate,we all bought into the old "you need to elect this candidate because he/she will support your conservative candidates when it comes down to party loyalty votes!"

That may have worked back when the RINO's were in a minority, but once they took over it was just a plea to vote in more RINO's.

If Trent "Power Sharing" Lott didn't make it obvious to you that there was one Ruling Party with two branches, you are so blind you will never wake up. Conservatives had made a comeback and were in a position to make real changes, and Lott threw it all away while the majority of people applauded his bi-partisanship.

I doubt he will even be the Dim candidate in 2012. I suspect Bubbette! Clinton will be the Dim nominee. The left are going to be outraged over how Bush-like Barry Soetoro is,and the RINO's will run one of the usual suspects that nobody has ever wanted in office before, but is suddenly supposed to be the re-incarnation of Thomas Jefferson. Most likely either Huckabee or Romney. Neither stands a snowballs chance in hell of winning. The Huckster will attract a rabid crowd of snake huggers ranting about what a "Gawdly man" he is,and this will scare away everybody else. Romney would get both conservative votes in the northeast, and that's about it. NOBODY wants a president from the northeast. Not even one with Presidential Hair.

Also in Governors races and state legislatures. There are credible predictions now that the GOP will pick up more than 300 state legislative seats and 8 gubernatorial offices.

Remember, its redistricting time. This could shift 20 house districts to the GOP's favor for the next 10 years.

"...you moved to the doghouse"

Actually, back in the days of Edgar Allen Poe's childhood, spent running around Church Hill, my specific neighborhood was known as DogTown...MUD

"I do believe Hillary will be on the ticket for VP."

No way she accepts the Veep of the ObamaNation, and that ticket would be guaranteed to git whupped, imho. In any event, I think you are misunderestimating the anger the RAT-Messiah's tyrannical regime has caused amongst those of us who are footing the bill...I think Pete's right about Obama not being on the RATS' 2012 Presidential ticket...MUD

Its going to be a landslide. The only question is can the GOP retake the Senate.

Pelosi blew any chance of retaining the Speaker's gavel long ago.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

Obviously NOT the DemocRAT Party that is trumpeting collectivist solutions to every issue that confronts us. Other than that, I usedta support my Congresscritter when he usedta be Eric Cantor. But since I moved, I plan on being a thorn in the side of my RAT Congresscritter, Bobby Scott. Other than that, I don't have a vote come November, our RAT Senators don't come up fer another 2-4 years...MUD

Nice non-answer to my question, Mudbot, typical of a GOP cheerleader.
