Hurricane Earl has strengthened into a major Category 3 storm Monday and could arrive off the East Coast of the U.S. by the end of this week. It is currently rocking the Caribbean's Northern Leeward Islands. The National Hurricane Center said Earl is now the second major hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic season, with winds up to 120 miles per hour . Hurricane warnings are in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, Anguilla, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius, the British and the U.S. Virgin islands. A hurricane watch is also in effect for Puerto Rico. Hurricane Danielle has moved into the North Atlantic and is now more of a threat to Iceland than the U.S.

MIAMI | Mon Aug 30, 2010 12:07pm (Reuters) - Hurricane Earl strengthened to a major Category 3 storm on Monday as it lashed the Caribbean's northern Leeward Islands on a track that could see it swiping the U.S. East Coast in the next few days, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. Earl, now the second major hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic season, was churning with sustained winds of 120 mph, the Miami-based center said. Additional strengthening was expected in the next 48 hours. The hurricane was moving west-northwest on a curving track that the National Hurricane Center said would take it east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, in the next few days. Hurricane center forecaster Jessica Schauer said authorities along the U.S. eastern seaboard should closely monitor Earl's progress. "Right now it's forecast to pass off the coast of Cape Hatteras, probably within about 300 miles but that forecast track can change," she told Reuters. Schauer said a direct hit to the North Carolina coast could not be ruled out. On its current path, Earl posed no threat to the Gulf of Mexico, where major U.S. oil and gas installations are located. Hovensa LLC said operations were normal at its 500,000 barrel-per-day refinery on the island of St. Croix but that the refinery's harbor and all other ports in the U.S. Virgin Islands had been closed because of Earl. At 11 a.m. EST (1500 GMT), the hurricane was located about 95 miles east- northeast of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and about 165 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The hurricane buffeted the northernmost Leeward Islands with rain, winds and waves as it passed on Monday.

moving further west, watch out outer banks and Long Island/New England. Hey, if its going to hit NY don't you think we'll hear "the liberals in NY are going to get what they deserve" from the same protesting the mosque in "Hallowed Ground" in NYC?

Pat Robertson will pray it away because that's too close to his house. Not really. The whole south has been invaded by these creatures. Florida is probably the most heavily infested,but they are all over. And the Conservative plan to create jobs is......????? Nobody knows because there are no conservatives in positions of power,only Dims and the Dim-Lites known as RINO's.
