It seems that Biden, who's from Delaware when he's in Delaware and Pennsylvania when in Pennsylvania, is certain now that Iraq will turn out to be one of the Obama-Biden administration's greatest achievements.

No, really.

Here's how Biden put it to Lar:

I am very optimistic about -- about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

I spent -- I've been there 17 times now. I go about every two months -- three months. I know every one of the major players in all the segments of that society. It's impressed me. I've been impressed how they have been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences.

Biden did not elaborate on what all the administration's other "great achievements" were so far.

Poster's comment: Well there you have it. If the Obama Administration says Iraq is a success, who are some nameless, faceless posters on LF to argue against this?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Iraq will erupt into civil war as soon as the U.S pulls out. It's already starting.

Bush should have never invaded a country that didn't attack us and didn't pose any threat to us.

Why did he? Because the demented neo-commies were planning on getting rid of Hussein since 1996. They tried to talk the Israelis into doing and they said NO. The neo-commies finally found a STOOGE that would do their bidding.

We wasted almost $1 TRILLION, the lives of over 4,400 American kids, and crippled countless more American kids.

For what??? NOTHING.

The Happy Bride

There are a lot of people who believe that Roosevelt knew about Japan's plan to attack Pearl Harbor and did nothing because he wanted us in the war.

We certainly had no business in the Great War, which Americans mistakenly call "World War I".

Our involvement in the Great War allowed France to foist reparations on Germany, which lead to a hyperinflation, that led to Hilter, who started WWII. It may have also lead to the collapse in Russia which allowed the Communists to take control.

We can thank Woodrow Wilson, who promised to keep us out of war, for much of the BIG, HUGE bloodshed of the 20th century.

Wow - doubting the reasons for WWII, and even "The Great War"?? Doubting St. FDR and St. Woodrow?? You guys ARE being politically incorrect, aren't you?

(I happen to agree, BTW)

But here's where I'm coming from: WWII was the last Constitutionaly declared war (president goes before a joint session of Congress, "day of infamy", etc.)

Everyone KNEW we were at war. Everyone was involved in the war (themselves, sons, fathers, uncles, cousins). Everyone sacrificed (gas rationing, shortages of just about everything else.)

Most Americans were for victory - even demanded it.

When it was over, there was no question that we WON it. There was a surrender ceremony and everything.

When was it - and WHO was it - that decided to start fighting these BULLSHIT wars? Korea was a BULLSHIT war. Vietnam was a BULLSHIT war

Oh yeah - Iraq will be a success, all right. As much a "success" as Korea. And after almost 60 years, we have, what? North Korea rattling nuclear sabres at the rest of the world?

Some success.

Not until Japan attacked us. Prior to that, there was HUGE opposition in the U.S. for entering the war.

I have no problem with us entering WWII because Japan attacked us.

I have huge problems with the Great War (WWI). It wasn't a world war. It was basically a European war. Wilson's entry into the war certainly caused Germany's economic collapse, which resulted in Hitler. It probably resulted in the Bolsheviks taking power in Russia as well.

The entire Progressive Era is what got us off track. (No, I didn't learn this from Glenn Beck. I've known it for 30 years. I am SO happy that Beck figured it out and is teaching others.)

Direct election of Senators, Federal Reserve, Income Tax, and involvement in a big European war - this was the evil that did us in.

Prior to that, there was HUGE opposition in the U.S. for entering the war.

I believe most Americans, if left to their own devices, would be isolationists at heart. Charles Lindberg and Henry Ford were isolationists.

We occupied most of the North American landmass, and we had huge oceans between us and the rest of the world. Even in the more recent decades of ICMBs and long range bombers, we had "mutually assured destruction (MAD).

I don't think any country wanted to launch missles and commit certain suicide.

Somewhare along the line, "isolationist" became a pejorative. It's "bad" to be an isolationist (why, all the presidents since FDR have said so!)

Me - being the "ignoramos" that I am - don't really understand it. Why do we have to insert ourselves in these regional conflicts? Is it trade? Won't we still be able to trade with the victors?

I wish someone would expain to me why sending our sons (and now daughters) to fight and die in bullshit wars benefits us?

Won't we still be able to trade with the victors?

Ross Perot made that very point when the first Bush decided to waste American lives and money to defend the DICTATOR of Kuwait from the DICTATOR of Iraq. Perot said that it wouldn't matter if the devil himself ran the oil fields. He'd still have to sell it to us to make money. Of course, he was right.

Why do we have to insert ourselves in these regional conflicts?

It's the grown up version of king of of the hill. It's all about power. Yes, the power hungry can use trade and many other excuses to enlist people into their cause. In the end, it's all about satisfying the power lust of politicians.

The short answer to why we need police, security people, keys and locks is because there is sin in the world. Bad people do bad things.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't need the military, either.

We do, of course, need the military. The queation is - what should their mission be.

Empires use their military to expand their territory. I was under the impression that we weren't an empire.

Our military should be about defense, not offense (unless we are attacked, like Pearl Harbor). And before you say "9/11", let me remind you they were Saudis and Eqyptians that flew those planes. Not Iraqis.

You posed a question to another poster earlier about what he would do if he saw his neighbor's daughter being raped.

Here's what I would do. If I had the means I would stop it myself. Baring that, I would call the police.

Here's what I would NOT do: Call another neighbor to send his kid in - in my place.

The point I wish to make though, is even though the US Population wanted to kill as many Japanese as God could make-my father's generation HATED them like there was no tomorrow-my father's generation didn't care to go to Europe.

I worked in my father's construction company when I was 13 till I was 27. Most of his fellow-workers were former USMC/US Army/USN men who fought in the Pacific.

TO A MAN THEY CALLED THE WAR IN EUROPE "ROOSEVELT'S WAR." TO A MAN THEY SAID WE HAD NO BUSINESS BEING IN EUROPE.

So I can tell you the war in Europe wasn't popular in the US from my experience with the WW2 generation.
