Title: Durable Goods Collapsing (Down 3.8% ex-transportation)

Durable Goods Collapsing

New orders for manufactured durable goods in July increased $0.6 billion or 0.3 percent to $193.0 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This increase followed two consecutive monthly decreases including a 0.1 percent June decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 3.8 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.3 percent.

There's nothing good in here. That headline number masked monstrous weakness when one looks ex-transports. Most of the transport gains were in non-defense aircraft and parts.

Worse, if you remember, one of my leading indicators is computers and other technology products - specifically, the backlog.

Eek.

Backlog is basically gone, but what's worse is that on a month-over-month basis new orders have collapsed. This puts the lie to the claim made by many that there will be any sort of meaningful support coming from technology. Sorry, but no.

Electrical equipment new orders were likewise down almost 6%. But the damage didn't end there:

Machinery July by genesis

These things are the means of production and their new order flow is in all-on collapse.

Granted, this is a volatile series. But it is also "seasonally adjusted", which means that we should not see large variations on a "random" basis, assuming that the "adjustments" actually are honest (and who knows if they are.)

This was a very weak report, albeit not something that I find unexpected. Indeed, I was wondering how long the so-called "inventory cycle" nonsense would come to an end.

The answer is, apparently, "now."

No Houses, no durables, no workers.

That'll be min 3 for every house not built.

500 000 per month for every 'durable good' not consumed.

The Problem for the PPT now is this.

They have to drop the DOW for Reality's sake. So, like the Everything on a Computer NSA, these yoyo's have merely put another complexity interface into the System.

One more thing they have to lie about. One more thing they have to control. Until one day an unexpected Flash Crash again, this one not fixable.

No meaningful drop can occur. To do so means all those pension funds which aren't bankrupt will then be bankrupt.

Far better to keep the charade going to keep the pension funds afloat.

The Problem is that this 'unreality' costs. Alot. With the Small People having to pay. Even as the Hidden Agenda produces Absurdities.

Kinda like the Pentagon saying they're cutting in Virginia(maybe) while building in Afghanistan(really):

The Pentagon is embarking on a major base construction effort in Afghanistan even as Obama administration and military officials are making it clear that the US "surge" will last well past the July 11 deadline for beginning a drawdown of US troops.

The Washington Post reported Monday that the US Congress is preparing to pass legislation providing "$1.3 billion in additional fiscal 2011 funds for multiyear construction of military facilities in Afghanistan". These funds would cover, in part, $100 million expansions for each of three major US air bases in different parts of the country.

Slow Violence and the BP Coverups By ANNE McCLINTOCK Three vanishing acts are being played out in the Gulf: the disappearing of the oil from the ocean surface by Corexit, the disappearing of the story by the media blockade, and the disappearing from view of the shadowy private contractors who are making a mint helping BP and the Coast Guard keep a cover on the clean-up. This triple vanishing trick, collectively choreographed by BP and sundry federal agencies, culminated on August 4th in a report released by NOAA that claimed 75% of the oil spill had been captured, burned, evaporated or broken down.

The White House hailed the report as something to celebrate. Energy advisor Carol Browne announced: “the vast majority of the oil is gone.”

And Microbes ate the DeepPlume Oil that US/BP said a month ago didn't exist.

Lots and Lots of $$$. 8D

The same stories circulated about our bases in Iraq.

We've drawn down dramatically in Iraq, despite the bases. The bases are there for the Iraqi army and in case we need to go back.

Ditto with Afpak bases.

It doesn't cost nearly as much as bailing out the pension funds.

You don't know so you'll attack the Left. Always the Default.

And why we invaded in the first place...always forgot.

And the ONLY thing Showing we've left is the SAME MSM that will NEVER say why we invaded.

" An Afghan police recruit has shot dead two Spanish police officers and their interpreter in north-western Afghanistan, officials say.

.

The assailant opened fire during a training session in a “premeditated attack”, Spain’s interior minister….After the shooting, a crowd of angry locals were reported to be protesting outside a Spanish base.

.

Hundreds of men hurled stones at the base in Qalay-i-Naw in Badghis province, while chanting religious slogans.

.

Local officials said a large group of them tried to storm the base, and unconfirmed reports said part of the base had been set on fire."

But we will leave. And soon. Even though we haven't left yet. It'll be difficult to bring back all that loot while the Bottom 90% live in Neo Feudalism.

Foreigners will have to finance our Military, eH?

Kinda like the DOW staying at 10 000 while the Bottom 90% live like sharecroppers.

Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Iraqi cities were hit in bombings today that targeted the police, killing at least 37 people and injuring 126, police and medical officials said.

Car bombs were used in the attacks in Baghdad, Basra, Karbala, Baquba, Kirkuk and Wasit, the officials said in statements.

Violence has picked up in Iraq in recent months amid Iraq’s political impasse and the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops. Terrorists have been emboldened by the power vacuum created by the failure to seat a new government since parliamentary elections in March, Iraqi leaders have said.

Ceyhan Pipeline's been blown again as well.

And I'll love the MSM posting. US has to re invade Iraq. Didn't learn the First Time.

©©As for the mosque on Wall Street issue: I think we should never build anything on the 9/11 site except for one thing: a replica of the Skull and Bones crypt at Yale. Since ultimately, the people running this country were the ones who enabled this attack and the S & B president didn’t bother to protect us and the Pentagon sat on its ass during the entire morning, I think that this gaping hole should be represented by the real forces at work here. And put up a statue of Bin Laden laughing at us. A good reminder of who is smarter, dead or alive.

From the Army Times: Combat brigades in Iraq under different name.

As the final convoy of the Army’s 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Lewis, Wash., entered Kuwait early Thursday, a different Stryker brigade remained in Iraq.

Soldiers from the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division are deployed in Iraq as members of an Advise and Assist Brigade, the Army’s designation for brigades selected to conduct security force assistance.

So while the “last full U.S. combat brigade” have left Iraq, just under 50,000 soldiers from specially trained heavy, infantry and Stryker brigades will stay, as well as two combat aviation brigades ...

There are seven Advise and Assist Brigades in Iraq, as well as two additional National Guard infantry brigades “for security,” said Army spokesman Lt. Col. Craig Ratcliff. ...

The Army selected brigade combat teams as the unit upon which to build advisory brigades partly because they would be able to retain their inherent capability to conduct offensive and defensive operations, according to the Army’s security force assistance field manual, which came out in May 2009. This way, the brigade can shift the bulk of its operational focus from security force assistance to combat operations if necessary.

That is to say, they can do what combat troops throughout history have always been able to do: ride herd on a conquered people when they're down (or "provide security force assistance," in our demure modern parlance), and lash out with heavy power when the natives get restless.

Or to put it another way, what we have in Iraq now is 50,000+ combat troops doing what combat troops do. And forty tons of lipstick won't obscure the swinish nature of this continuing war crime.

©©The anger being splashed at the banker bitch, throwing the cat in the bin, is a sign that there is underlying angst ready to burst out. That is, people will be a lot angrier next year in Britain as the reality of bankruptcy bites harder and harder. The US stock market just fell below the critical 10,000 level. Housing will continue to slump due to the high debt burden most people carry. We have many problems at home and there are several things the US and UK can do to fix the worst of them:

.

1. Stop all the wars including the war on drugs.

1a. Cut the Military in 1/2. Berth ALL Carriers.

2. Shut down the pirate islands and put them all under proper jurisdiction of the governments in London and DC.

3. Tax the rich.

4. Dump all bankers into wheelie bins for 15 hours (hahaha..)

5. Use the money from taxing the international bankers to rebuild our industrial base.

6. Put up serious tariffs and barriers to trade.

.
