Title: GOP Takes Historic Lead in Generic Ballot (Dems on suicide watch)

The latest Gallup generic ballot test shows the Republicans leading the Democrats by the largest spread in the history of the generic ballot. Republicans lead by seven points -- 50 percent to 43 percent. This also appears to be the first time Republicans have ever hit 50 percent in the history of the Gallup generic ballot.

If you take into consideration that Republicans' leads expand (or deficits shrink) by four or five points once pollsters apply a likely voter screen, then the Gallup result is consistent with the latest Rasmussen poll, which shows a twelve-point Republican lead. In Rasmussen's balloting, Republicans lead 48 percent to 36 percent. To put things into perspective, Democrats won 257 seats in 2008, and won the national vote by eleven points. Republicans lead by 6.4 points in the RCP Average, but four of those five polls are registered voter polls.

This is probably not a coincidence, but at the same time President Obama's average weekly approval ratings in the Gallup tracking poll dropped to to their lowest level of his Presidency, at 44 percent. In the wake of Obama's comments on the Ground Zero Mosque, the President's approval ratings have dropped even farther over the weekend (when they typically seem to improve), and today for the first time, 50 percent of Americans disapprove of the job he's doing (in Gallup). The latest RCP Average shows 44.4 percent approve and 50.8 percent disapprove.

Poster comment: Not that I'm a big fan of the stupid party, but the Dems really are panicking and I'm enjoying it.

Piss on the Dems!

Historically predictable. The non presidential party always picks up a few more legislative positions in the off elections.

A few? ROTFL!

And in this century, actually its not 'historically predictable'. In fact, recent history of first term President's and their mid term shows GAINS. See 2002.

What we are seeing via all available data is a tidal wave back to the GOP. Thats just fact. And its because Owe-bama has pissed off the entire country, done nothing to help the economy, and united the majority all right...AGAINST his administration and his party's control of congress.

The only real question is can the GOP run the table and retake the Senate in Novmeber. With eaching passing day it becomes more likely they will. Its still a long shot, but not as long as it was six months ago...or even 30 days ago for that matter.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

What you're missing, not surprisingly, is the DEGREE of seats which will be lost by the party in power.

I believe one election doesn't make a trend.

The degree has not been determined yet, so I'm missing nothing. You do know that in the 1994 elections only two political pundits actually predicted accurately the degree, most everyone else grossly underestimated it.

Fair enough, but the word "HISTORICAL" is the reason I posted this article.

Now, you prediction for Dem pick-up or loses will be what?

2000....2002...2004...2006....20008.

Thats four elections since this 'century' began.

You offered up a well worn political staple 'mid terms go against the President' more or less.

You got called on it with a simple fact, that so far this century thats not been the case.

And it affected your basic counting skills, apparently....

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

Why are you still allowed on here?

To dispense stunning observations like the above?

I do hope you remain after the Nov massacre though.
