LAS VEGAS -- The Tea Party of Nevada's candidate for U.S. Senate, Scott Ashjian, announced Monday that he is re-entering the race to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Ashjian told FOX5 that he had at first supported Republican candidate Sharron Angle, but after she made several gaffes after winning the June primary, he decided to give voters another choice.
"I think there's enough disgruntled Democrats and Republicans to make up the difference," he said. "I felt as the (Angle) campaign progressed and as I watched her throughout this campaign, that she completely got off message."
Ashjian said he believes he is now the only candidate who can beat Reid in the polls -- but he doesn't want to make the Senate his career.
"I'm not looking to be in this forever," he said. "I want one term. I'll resign after one term. This is not a career for me. This is to send a message across the country it is the people's government and the people are in charge."
