Title: Election 2010: Colorado Governor Colorado Governor: Hickenlooper (D) 43%, Maes (R) 31%, Tancredo (ACP) 18%

Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper now holds a double-digit lead in the three-way race for governor of Colorado.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Colorado Voters finds Hickenlooper, the mayor of Denver, with 43% support. Businessman Dan Maes, the winner of Tuesday’s Republican Primary, captures 31% of the vote, while American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo trails with 18%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided. This is the first poll conducted since Maes won the Republican primary.

It shows Maes with a bit more support than he had before the primary and Tancredo with a bit less support.

Hickenlooper’s level of support has been fairly steady for months, but he has clearly benefitted from Tancredo’s entry in the race which splits the Republican vote. The Democrat had run roughly even with Maes in two earlier surveys.

Colorado is now ranked Solid Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.

Maes edged longtime front-runner Scott McInnis in Tuesday’s primary after the latter was felled by a plagiarism scandal. McInnis held a small lead over Hickenlooper for months prior to the scandal. Tancredo, a former GOP congressman, jumped into the race after the plagiarism charges broke, saying neither McInnis nor Maes could beat Hickenlooper. Maes has won only lukewarm support from state Republicans since the primary.

Just 59% of Republican voters in the state now support Maes, while Hickenlooper picks up 82% of voters in his own party. Tancredo, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, captures 25% of GOP voters. Among voters not affiliated with either party, Hickenlooper earns 35% of the vote, Maes 28% and Tancredo 24%.

The survey of 750 Likely Voters in Colorado was conducted on August 11, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology. Additional data from this survey will be released at www.rasmussenreports.com/Colorado.

The first Rasmussen Reports post-primary telephone survey of Likely Voters in Colorado shows a close U.S. Senate race between Republican challenger Ken Buck and incumbent Democratic Senator Michael Bennet.

Colorado voters express serious pessimism about the economy. Only four percent (4%) describe the economy as good, while 65% think it’s poor. Twenty-five percent (25%) say the economy is getting better, but 50% believe it is getting worse.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of those who say the economy is improving support Hickenlooper. The plurality (47%) of the larger group who say the economy is worsening favor Maes. Seventy-six percent (76%) of all Colorado voters say the U.S. economy is in a recession. Hickenlooper is viewed Very Favorably by 35% of voters in the state and Very Unfavorably by 24%. For Maes, Very Favorables are 12% and Very Unfavorables 20%

Fourteen percent (14%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Tancredo, but 32% view him Very Unfavorably. At this point in a campaign, Rasmussen Reports considers the number of people with strong opinions more significant than the total favorable/unfavorable numbers.

Forty-four percent (44%) of Colorado voters now approve of the job Democratic Governor Bill Ritter is doing, up five points from earlier this month. Fifty-four percent (54%) disapprove.

No. Another example of go65 whistling past the graveyard.

that site shows Democrats holding the Senate and the House, and Reid beating Angle.

Did you have a point you were trying to make?

My point was this:

If you're going to shill the idea that the reps are fighting a civil war, then a little dose of reality was in order.

As it stands now, the GOP stands to pick up 5 Senate seats, 34 House seats, and 7 governorships. Hardly the fruits of a party fighting a "civil war".

As I've said before though, these polls are meaningless. And, in the end, it's not going to matter. "Elections" are what got us into this mess, so "elections" sure the hell aren't going to get us out.

Yes, a little dose of reality is in order. Go back and look at that link you provided, the GOP would be heading for control of the Senate if not for Rubio & Angle.

You are correct. But this is just evidence that the Republicans are sick of the corrupt status quo, while said corruption has a nice, happy home in the Democratic Party.

Ok, so after reading your posts here on LF, I've come to the following conclusion regarding your political philosophy. Tell me if I'm accurate:

The political world according to go65:

"Democrats are always preferable to Republicans. Always. Now, having said that, if republicans were smart they would take Trent Lott's advice and co-opt the tea party. Tea-baggers are wackos, and have no business in the political realm.

Of course if republicans WERE to become more like democrats, I wouldn't vote for them anyway. Even when republicans are statists (like the Bush's are), they are always to be avoided and ridiculed. Democrat statists are always better than republican ones.

So let me summarize: Republicans to be successful need to act more like democrats. Oh, I would never vote for them in any case. But they need to do as I say."

Do I have it about right?

Uh no.

My point is that the civil war in the GOP is costing them seats in Congress. YOUR link shows the Democrats are poised to retain control of the House and Senate.

Apparently you didn't learn anything from NY-23. Look, if the Tea Party's goal is to turn the GOP into a permanent minority, squandering the opportunity to take the Congress from a very unpopular Democratic party, then they are succeeding.

97.5% of incumbents have won renomination so far this year.

You're one of the biggest cheerleaders for the dems that I've ever witnessed.

So tell me - why in your opinion is the democrat party so unpopular?

Are they not statist enough? Are the American people too stupid to see how wonderful the democrats are?

Since you like polls so much, I found one that belies your original point that the democrats were unpopular (or at least more unpopular than the GOP)

Sorry, Democrats, Being Less Unpopular Than The GOP Isn't Worth Much

Bottom line is your beloved Democrats have been in charge for four (4) years related to spending and legislative matters...and the result has been a economic implosion, deficits the next five generations of Americans won't be able to pay, and the largest number of unemployed Americans in history.

And I thought I had it bad in 2006....(chuckle)

Your boy Owe-bama has done something I didn't think was possible. United a clear MAJORITY of Americans. Unfortunately for him and YOU, its AGAINST Owe- bama, Pelosi, and that idiot Reid.

The view from my house of November is very very clear these days.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

And your solution is to replace them with the folks that caused this mess, that voted for Medicare Part D, an unpaid for war in Iraq and massive tax cuts that turned a massive surplus into a massive deficit.

Keep making that argument all you want.

Making shit up and then asserting its my or anyone else's position is absurd...and as the polls show its not working.

You KNOW damn well the above isn't 'my position'.

Why aren't your beloved Democrats running on what they've 'accomplished' these past four years under Pelosi and Reid? Or the past two under Owe-bama?

(laughing)

Everybody in this forum, and throughout the country, KNOWS WHY.

I can see November clearly...then again, so can you.
