obama has come under attack from American conservatives for supporting plans to build a mosque two blocks from the site of one of the terror attacks of 11 September 2001. The proposal for a mosque and community centre near the site of the World Trade Centre has attracted a large opposition movement in a fierce argument over religious freedom. At a White House dinner marking Ramadan, Obama said: "As a citizen, and as president, I believe Muslims have the same right to practise their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community centre on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable." But New York Republican congressman Newt Gingrich, the former House Speaker, condemned the proposed mosque and the president's comments. He said the mosque would be a symbol of Muslim "triumphalism" and that building it near the site of the 9/11 attacks "would be like putting a Nazi sign next to the Holocaust museum". Obama appeared last night to retreat from his remarks. "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there," he told reporters while visiting the Gulf Coast. "I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That's what our country is about." The fierce debate over the mosque has dominated newspaper debates in New York for several months and gradually spread nationwide. Opponents of the mosque number many conservatives, including leaders of the Tea Party movement and the former Alaska governor, Sarah Palin, and also relatives of the victims of 9/11 and a Jewish civil rights group, the Anti-Defamation League. Meanwhile one of the most vocal supporters of the mosque is a former star of the Republican party, the New York mayor Michael Bloomberg. The developer behind the mosque welcomed Obama's support. "We are deeply moved and tremendously grateful for our president's words," Sharif el-Gamal told the New York Times.

Actually, I worked in the wood many years and am currently on call to work as a wild land firefighter. Tree spiking has not been supported by forest activists with any common sense. The others who played with the concept in the 80s quit that stupidity in that decade and it has not been done in ages. I've worked doing fire trail and done pre-commercial tree thinning with my chainsaws. It would be stupid to risk hurting a fellow woods worker when it's those above the glass ceiling that worked to lose 1.5 billion dollars in timber sales last year in industry and government who are those targeted by rancor. It doesn't even bother me to use female returning bannee accounts, or even girl avs in on line multi player games. So how the heck do you expect your thin words on the topic to even muss my hair, micro dick? It has no bearing on my life or physicality in real time. ;-D Heh

As far as my working in the woods, anyone could get the articles about my fall from a tree on 24 July 1998 and the second one goes into detail about my experience in Special Forces, working in the Woods, and my forest and street tree defense. It seems the Register Guard here in Eugene were very fascinated that me, Mike McCarthy had so many years of woods work and was a protester of logging without laws, and my service in the military. So say what you want, but I make no secret of who I am, and the RG verified my service and interviewed Jim Luzzi, my old boss at Greenhill Reforestation. I don't care what your problems are. And I have been open as to who I am since 1995 when I started posting in forums, and there are lots of articles about me that can be ordered from the Register Guard, so it would be pointless to lie about what I have done working in the woods. ;-D

Not to mention spiking was an issue for a short time in the 1980s, and peer pressure from enviros helped end the foolish practice. You don't know much about the issue, and this shows. I've derailed my chain because of hitting fence post nails, and I didn't suffer any kick pack because I know what I am doing with a saw.
