With all the blaming Obama likes to do of the Bush administration and of George W. Bush himself, I try to remember one thing. More specifically, one day. I think back to that awful day on September 11th. I think of my emotions on that day, the great sense of loss, disbelief, fear, and confusion, all packaged together laying waste to my head and my heart. And I remember, solidly, the fear I had that it was going to continue to happen. Maybe not on that scale, but it would certainly happen again. Maybe New York again? Or a small town in Iowa? Or, here, at my local Wal-Mart or Johnny’s Pizza? At the time, who the fuck knew? Anyone’s guess. But there was not another attack on our homeland. There were attempts, but none successful. And as far as I am concerned, that is the only thing I wanted President Bush to focus on from that day forward. Preventing it from happening again. Obama may find it necessary to ridicule Bush to establish cover for his own short-comings as a leader, but anyone who has not forgotten that day knows what I’m saying is true. We had a leader. Sure he may have minced his words, but it was his actions that defined him. He kept us safe. It was his only duty, and in my opinion he did it brilliantly. Instead of using Bush as cover to his own failures, Obama should learn from him. Because Obama may be able to talk the talk, but he has no clue how to walk the walk. And when the shit hits the fan, you want a person of action, who can take ownership and lead. Not a finger pointer. Not a coward. Not a community organizer.
So let Obama blame whatever he wants on Bush. One thing he will never be able to blame Bush for not doing is keeping my, yours, and his own ass safe in the years after 9/11/2001.
