Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has edged ahead of his Republican opponent Sharron Angle in his bid for reelection in Nevada. Both candidates are seen to hold extreme views by large segments of the population.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Nevada finds Reid with 45% of the vote, while Angle earns 43% support. Seven percent (7%) favor some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

But 48% of the state’s voters have a Very Unfavorable view of Reid. Forty-one percent (41%) say the same of Angle. Overall, 55% have at least a somewhat unfavorable opinion of Reid and 56% view Angle at least somewhat unfavorably.

Sixty-two percent (62%) describe the longtime Democratic senator as a liberal, and 50% characterize his views as extreme. Forty-one percent (41%) put Reid in the mainstream.

Angle, who is seen as a conservative by 81% of the state’s voters, is viewed as holding extreme views by 58%. Thirty-seven percent (37%) see the GOP nominee in the mainstream.

Not surprisingly, Democrats tend to see Reid’s views as mainstream and Angle’s views as extreme. Republicans hold the opposite perspective. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 55% consider Reid’s views extreme while 52% say the same about Angle.

Forty-five percent (45%) of Nevada’s Likely Voters consider themselves at least somewhat conservative and 24% consider themselves at least somewhat liberal. Those figures include 18% who are Very Conservative and 6% who are Very Liberal.

Sixty-three percent (63%) of all Likely Voters consider Angle Very Conservative and 35% consider Reid Very Liberal.

Nevada now shifts from a Toss-Up to Leans Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Senate Balance of Power rankings.

I agree...unless Angle totally screws up her campaign, I can't see how Reid survives this election cycle...MUD

Angle made a huge blunder when she complained that Harry Reid helped saved 50,000 jobs by assisting MGM Grand in getting a loan.

She's toast.

Angle made a huge blunder . . .

Probably so. She's a political neophyte, after all. One who's managed to piss off the dims AND the rinos.

That said - In your opinion, why is it that that a "political genius" like Reid is even in a close election with an "idiot" like Angle?

With all his brilliance, shouldn't he be running away with it? Or are the good people of Nevada a bunch of rednecks and hicks who cling to their guns and Bibles?

It's the economy stupid.

And Reid has the charisma of a tool shed. This was an easy pickup for the GOP until they nominated a loon.

When do you think the GOP will wake up and realize the tea party is destroying it?

The economy is part of it - but Reid is seen as one of the 3 stooges (Zero and Nancy being the other two) driving the country over the cliff. It's not his charisma - Nixon had no charisma yet won an election carrying 49 states. It is raw anger.

People HATE what this man is doing.

As far as Angle being a loon - she may or may not be (I don't know her personally, and I do not live in NV anymore)

But the "loon" card is something you statists have been playing (when the "race" card cannot be applied, that is) since Ronald Reagan. And I suppose you'll keep playing it as long as it works.

When do you think the GOP will wake up and realize the tea party is destroying it?
If that were the case (which I doubt it is), I'd be the first one in line to applaud its demise. The GOP can't implode soon enough for me.

Once it does, maybe we'll get an actual conservative party in its place.

You have it backwards.

The GOP has already destroyed itself... It's no longer a party of conservative principles, limited government and fiscal responsibility... It's the party of "we're not quite as bad as the Democrats..."

Whether it be the Tea Party (which, IMO, is already co-opted by the GOP) or Libertarians like Ron Paul, or some other as-yet-unknown group, ANY group that demonstrates this fact will be vilified, called a "spoiler" group, anti- American, whatever...

Jingoism replaces rationality. "Some version of the truth" replaces REAL truth.

The GOP is DOA.

Conservatives have NO representation.

Guns - yes; Bibles - not so much.

BTW, Reid is pro 2nd amendment.

Message to the tea party and the GOP - don't nominate loons (especially as they appear poised to send up a loon from Alaska against Obama in 2012.

I have a lot of respect for Reagan, so I'm not sure where this is coming from.

Reagan, however, wouldn't last a minute in today's tea party inspired GOP. Keep in mind he governed to the left of Bill Clinton, raising taxes, expanding government spending, bailing out social security, and allowing amnesty to millions of illegals.

I have a lot of respect for Reagan, so I'm not sure where this is coming from.

Good for you, but most of your fellow statists hated his guts. In case you forgot, he stood up to the Soviets at Reykjavik (which just about drove CBS and the NY Times over the edge) and spoke against socialized health care as early as 1961 (there's audio floating around on the 'net somewhere to that effect.)

Reagan, however, wouldn't last a minute in today's tea party inspired GOP. Keep in mind he governed to the left of Bill Clinton, raising taxes, expanding government spending, bailing out social security, and allowing amnesty to millions of illegals.
That's pure, unadulterated bullbarack, and you know it.

Do the names John McClown, Lindsey Graham, Scot Brown, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins mean anything to you? THEY are the face of TODAY's GOP. (EDITED comment: They may not necessarily be the face, but they are the power of the GOP)

Any "governing to the left" that Reagan might have done (and I don't agree with your premise) was pragmatic - due to the Tip O'Neill controlled House. Yeah, I wish he'd been able to do more. The promised spending cuts WOULD have been nice, to go along with the tax cuts.

Governed to the left of Bill Clinton? He of "Hillary Care"? Are you on drugs?

DNC are racists for Reid.

Reid said, as a black candidate, could be successful thanks, in part, to his "light-skinned" appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."
