SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): "Isn't it a good thing today in America that we have an automobile manufacturing sector? If it had been up to them [Republicans], General Motors would be gone. If it were up to them, Ford Motor Company would probably be gone. Chrysler definitely would be gone."

Ford did not take any bailout money from the government.

Here's the complete text from the link you provided in your post:

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/ford-scores-more-european-aid/

Copy where it says US loans.

"Ford has once again snagged aid from a European government, as The Wall Street Journal [sub] reports that the British government has approved a £360m ($543m) guarantee on a £450 ($676.4m) European Investment Bank loan to The Blue Oval. The money will be used to fund a £1.5b ($2.25b) investment in four British Ford manufacturing sites. In an official statement, British Business Minister Mark Prisk said

[Ford's] investment of GBP1.5 billion over the next five years is a great opportunity to take the lead in developing low-carbon manufacturing. This backing from the government will help to ensure the long-term success of manufacturing in the U.K. and make sure we are at the forefront of new technologies

The money will be used to safeguard 2,800 British jobs, and help Ford develop a new generation of low-carbon engines as well as for development of commercial vehicles. This despite the fact that Ford of Europe had previously laid into GM’s persistent requests for European aid in restructuring its Opel division."

This assclown has no clue. Ford almost went bankrupt in the 50's and again in the post '79 recession. I couldn't stand working on their products and actually worked for Philco-Ford when I was a kid. Put in 3 patent applications as a co-op student.

Hated their product so much when I was looking for work in MI I turned down all phone calls trying to recruit me to Ford. The guys at Ford probably remembered me from my co-op days, good guys but no way I was going back.

Ford was in such dire straights they asked their suppliers for advice. Real simple, use the advice of the American who told the Japanese how to make cars and how to get the quality up. Don't build stuff that requires every wrench in the world to fix it.

Ford is financially deteriorating, I hope they hang in there. I've been driving their trucks since 1984 and wouldn't consider anything from Govt Motors. I turned down GM's offer to work at Pontiac six minutes from my apartment. They showed me a prototype of the Chevy Citation series, looked like the crap it was. 4 years of development to engineer crap? Losers.

Is it time to take out the trash? Post Date: 2010-07-14 11:48:27 by A K A Stone We know who you mean.

Reid was right when this was posted earlier too:

Lay off the Stupid pill Go65. No GM, no Chrysler means more profits for Ford.

Man are you stupid.

If you voted for Obama in 2008, you're too blame for this rotten mess we're now in. You broke it, you own it.

No GM, no Chrysler means collapse of suppliers for Ford

Fixed that for you.

And you should read this:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122703811621838291.html

WASHINGTON -- The chief executives of Detroit's Big Three auto makers appealed in dire language for U.S. taxpayers to help their industry, but couldn't dispel doubts in Congress that have clouded prospects for a government-led rescue.

In appearances Tuesday before the Senate Banking Committee, the leaders of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC, together with the head of the United Auto Workers union, argued the shaky U.S. economy couldn't withstand a collapse of any of the companies.

And, here's the testimony of Ford's CEO pleading for government assistance in 2008.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/8655984/Ford-CEO-Alan-Mulally-Oral-Testimony

Despite this downturn, Ford does not anticipate a near-term liquidity crisis. In fact, we expect our automobile business to be profitable in 2011.But we do support a government bridge loan because it is critically important to the U.S. auto industry. Specifically, Ford requests access to $9 billion in bridge financing – something we hope we will not need to use.Instead, as we continue to drive change in our company, this line of credit will serve as a critical safeguard, if events require it.And if we did need to access this loan, we would use the money to continue our aggressive transformation and restructuring.
