(July 19) -- All that glitters may not be entirely golden.
Officials in Los Angeles and Santa Monica counties are launching an investigation into the business practices of Goldline International, a company that employs conservative politicians and pundits -- from Glenn Beck to Mike Huckabee -- as pitchmen to sell gold.
As reported by ABC News, the investigation centers on pressure that Goldline is alleged to have put on customers to purchase limited-edition gold coins, whose value is much less than if the customers bought gold bullion instead.
"There are two main types of complaints we're seeing," Adam Radinsky of the Santa Monica City Attorney's Office told ABC. "One is that customers say that they were lied to and misled in entering into their purchases of gold coins. And the other group is saying that they receive something different from what they had ordered."
Through its lawyers, Goldline International refused to comment on the investigation, ABC News said.
Goldline International is a frequent advertiser on Fox News, and Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner, who has also been scrutinizing the company, appeared on "The O'Reilly Factor" to debate Goldline's practices.
You mean paying 20%+ markups to buy and 20%+ markdowns to sell plays it's customers for fools?
Well, if they weren't fools they wouldn't be listening to Beck, so it's a perfect marketing match.
