Last month’s combined global land and ocean surface temperature made it the warmest June on record and the warmest on record averaged for any April-June and January-June periods, according to NOAA. Worldwide average land surface temperature was the warmest on record for June and the April-June period, and the second warmest on record for the year-to-date (January-June) period, behind 2007. The monthly analysis from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, which is based on records going back to 1880, is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides government, business and community leaders so they can make informed decisions. The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for June 2010 was the warmest on record at 61.1°F (16.2°C), which is 1.22°F (0.68°C) above the 20th century average of 59.9°F (15.5°C). The global June land surface temperature was 1.93°F (1.07°C) above the 20th century average of 55.9 °F (13.3°C) — the warmest on record. Warmer-than-average conditions dominated the globe, with the most prominent warmth in Peru, the central and eastern contiguous U.S., and eastern and western Asia. Cooler-than-average regions included Scandinavia, southern China and the northwestern contiguous United States. According to Beijing Climate Center, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang and Jilin had their warmest June since national records began in 1951. Meanwhile, Guizhou experienced its coolest June on record. According to Spain’s meteorological office, the nationwide average temperature was 0.7°F (0.4°C) above normal, Spain's coolest June since 1997. The worldwide ocean surface temperature was 0.97°F (0.54°C) above the 20th century average of 61.5°F (16.4°C), which was the fourth warmest June on record. The warmth was most pronounced in the Atlantic Ocean. Sea surface temperature continued to decrease across the equatorial Pacific Ocean during June 2010, consistent with the end of El Niño. According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, La Niña conditions are likely to develop during the northern hemisphere summer 2010. The combined global land and ocean surface temperature for April-June 2010 was 1.26°F (0.70°C) above the 20th century average—the warmest April-June period on record. For the year-to-date, the global combined land and ocean surface temperature of 57.5°F (14.2°C) was the warmest January-June period. This value is 1.22°F (0.68°C) above the 20th century average. Polar Sea Ice and Precipitation Highlights Arctic sea ice covered an average of 4.2 million square miles (10.9 million square kilometers) during June. This is 10.6 percent below the 1979-2000 average extent and the lowest June extent since records began in 1979. This was also the 19th consecutive June with below-average Arctic sea ice extent. Antarctic sea ice extent in June was above average, 8.3 percent above the 1979-2000 average— resulting in the largest June extent on record. China had near-average precipitation. Regionally, Guizhou, Fujian and Qinghai had above-average precipitation during June 2010, resulting in the second wettest June since national records began in 1951—according to Beijing Climate Center. Meanwhile, the province of Jiangsu had its driest June on record, while Shanxi had its second driest on record. According to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, the continent had its fourth-driest June on record. The first six months of 2010 were the driest since 1929 for the United Kingdom, according to the UK Met Office. The average rainfall during January-June 2010 was 14.3 inches (362.5 mm), just 3.4 inches (86.8 mm) above January-June 1929. The January-June long-term average is 20.1 inches (511.7 mm). Not as bright as you like to think, as this demonstrates. I've been saying 'lets wait' on this latest effort to stop the leak since it was ballyhoo'ed around. Not even a nice try, no ceegar.
The line in the sand is being drawn. BP is revealing how scared they are of establishing a flow rate despite it being lower than when the well was at full pressure. My view is that Federal Marshals should be on the collection vessels NOW to avoid BP taking a desperate actions. If Allen has the guts to say start collection immediately then he gives them 12 hours to begin. No BS about pressure relieving etc. Hook up the riser and the two sets of Choke/kill lines and have at it. It is obvious that BP will try to not open the valves completely and offer technical snow-jobs. That is why Marshals are needed at each collection vessel and at the two BOP control stations. Include U.S. citizens experienced in drilling and production on the vessels to monitor and prevent hanky-panky. This is VERY serious business. BP has already killed eleven people and faces criminal negligence charges. Desperate people do desperate things as we have seen from the original explosion.

It is hard to believe that the government could be so incompetent to take the risks that he outlines. I called gm dead 10 years ago. This one's much easier. First Cat3/5. All of that methane/oil lake 4/5000 ft deep will be brought up and thrown inland. And here's an outright lie at real time: He said initial tests that he did not describe indicate the bubbles are not hydrates -- a solid form of methane or natural gas formed by the combination of cold temperatures and pressures a mile below the water's surface. But Suttles also said workers had been unsuccessful in actually capturing the bubbles, and thus additional tests must be completed to confirm that conclusion."If you can imagine, it is not an easy operation to collect those bubbles so that they can be tested to see what their make-up is," he said. The official said BP is not complying with the government's demand for more monitoring. BP spokesman Mark Salt declined to comment on the allegation, but said "we continue to work very closely with all government scientists on this." I call Bullshit. After the 'stack' was fabricated, bolted on, and tested, the hand-writing was on the wall for BP...a -real- value for the flow. Admittedly, only a temporal value, but the only credible value so far. BP huddled up and figured, Hey, we've already fubared the whole GOM...how about we say that we need to shut in the well for testing. If it blows out below the seafloor, so be it. If it holds, pressure (public/media opinion, etc.) will build to keep it shut in until the RW punches through. Either way we don't have a measurement, so we can drag this through the courts for years and save billions of dollars. Our guess is as good as their guess. Federal and BP officials released no additional information Sunday night on the size of the seep, when or how it was found or its actual location in relation to the wellhead.
BP seems to do whatever it wants for the past 3 months, so my bet is they will stall and seal the well if at all possible in the next month or so. That retired Adm Allen said that they'd be loading the oil into vessels on the surface; but that didn't fly with BP.
The problem is that the US owns bp now. Whether it realizes it or not. They owe $1 Trillion per year. Minimum. Every year for at least the next 5 years. Not including hurricane damage.

Like this: Anadarko Petroleum Corp. fell the most in the S&P 500, losing 4.1 percent to $45.52 as Kenneth Feinberg, who is overseeing a $20 billion fund to pay damage claims from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, said the BP Plc partner could still be sued by victims even if they had been paid from BP’s fund. The London-based oil company’s U.S. traded shares fell 3.6 percent to $35.75. OOOOhhhh! Like watching the Hindenburg bursting into flames. The Horror!!! ;} No wonder bp did weird things today. At the End. From 34.50 to 35.50 in 15 min no vol. Still down 4%.
