Title: Rand Paul On Upcoming Election: War In Afghanistan 'Is Really A Complete Non-issue.’

In an interview with the National Review published yesterday, Kentucky Republican Senate nominee Rand Paul — the tea party darling who recently refused to say how old the Earth is — sided with RNC Chairman Michael Steele in expressing concern about the ongoing war in Afghanistan. “It’s too simplistic to say there is never a time to come home, or that it’s unpatriotic to debate,” Paul said. But, he adds, the public doesn’t care about the war:

As we turn to foreign policy, Paul says it is on this front that he finds himself most at odds with the GOP. However, he confides that he seldom talks about his foreign-policy positions, because what the voters really care about is economic matters. On the campaign trail, he says, “I’m not thinking about Afghanistan; foreign policy is really a complete non-issue.”

Paul told the National Review that he hopes that if he makes it to the Senate, there will be “room for discussion” on foreign policy issues within the GOP. Subscribe to *Elections 2010*

He's right. The Democrats damn sure don't want to talk about it, and in Kentucky they are far more worried about jobs, deficit spending, and foreclosures.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

Of course spending $1 trillion, that we had to borrow from the Chinese and Saudis, to invade Iraq and Afghanistan was a big part of the doubling of the national debt under Bush, which helped lead to the abyss we face today.

Everybody has their viewpoint. The deficits run up by Bush and the GOP congress, and then tripled by the Democrat controlled Congress and this Whitehouse since 2008 are my only concern.

I've noted Bush and the GOP lost me in 2006 over the deficit spending.

That said, I agreed with both invasions. Still think they were the correct response to the related but seperate issues of each.
