Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) has almost $10 million more cash on hand than her Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina. Boxer has $11.3 million in the bank after raising slightly less than $2.6 million since May 20. She raised a total of $4.6 million during the second quarter, but more than $1 million of that came in the form of transfers from other campaign committees.
Boxer also benefited from two second quarter fundraisers that featured President Obama.
Fiorina, meanwhile, reported raising nearly $1.4 million from May 20 to June 30. But she has only $953,000 left in the bank, despite having lent her primary campaign $5.5 million.
During a campaign stop Thursday, Fiorina called her total “an extremely impressive figure.”
“Remember that Barbara Boxer has been raising money for two years, hasn’t had to spend a dime of it because she hasn’t been through a primary,” she told the Sacramento Bee.
Fiorina declined to answer questions about whether she’ll to put any of her own money into her general election bid. Whether it comes from her personal fortune or donors’ contributions, Fiorina will quickly have to find a way to make up the gap.
