Levi the Playgirl pinup is now Levi the romantic or Levi the cheeseball. Levi Johnston, 20, proposed to Bristol Palin, 19, two weeks ago at her Anchorage condo after placing rose petals in the shape of a heart on her bed, the blushing bride-to-be said in a video interview posted by UsMagazine.com Thursday.
The daughter of former Alaska governor, Sarah Palin, told the magazine she arrived home from work to find Johnston in her room surrounded by flowers.
Johnston then got down on one knee and asked Palin to marry him.
"There was no hesitation at all," she said in front of a blushing Johnston.
The reunited couple announced their wedding plans on the cover of the magazine Wednesday and said the news of their secret engagement was a surprise even to mother-of-the-bride Sarah Palin.
The duo ended their rocky romance in March 2009 after a highly-publicized and bitter breakup.
In an unexpected gesture toward mending fences, Johnston issued an apology to the Palin family earlier this month in what was likely a bid to soften his future mother-in-law before dropping the bomb that he and Bristol were betrothed for a second time.
It's unclear yet if Palin will embrace the pair's pending union.
"We obviously want what's best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son," Palin and husband Todd said in a frosty statement issued Wednesday. "Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives."
Bristol Palin said the two decided to give the relationship another shot despite slams from her mother and Johnston's controversial nude photo shoot for Playgirl after getting together three months ago to discuss a custody plan for their 18-month-old son Tripp.
Later that night, Johnston sent an intimate text to Palin, which rekindled the young lovers' romance.
"When he left that night, we didn't hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was," the young mother said. He texted me: 'I miss you. I love you. I want to be with you again' ... I was in shock."
Johnston said he is looking forward to being part of a family, and regretting not seeing Tripp crawl and talk for the first time.
"I wasn't there for Tripp and Bristol. Now I am and it feels great," he said. "
I'm here now and I'm going to make it right."
