History will note it was the right decision.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

No, it wasn't. We invaded a sovereign nation which posed little actual threat to the US. Saddam was the only thing holding this forsaken place together, and he was a known quantity. His actions could be reliably predicted.

Maliki is refusing to step down even though he lost the March elections. He is also in bed with Iran and the Sadrists. Allawi is basically a US puppet, but he has popular support of the population who are looking for a secular leader. Neither will be able to hold the various tribal regions together for long. They just aren't strong enough.

We are departing after 9+ years and leaving a fractured mess. There is no functioning central government, and neighboring countries are lining up to lay claim when we finally pull out.

NO. Anything else?

We disagree. No big deal. Remember Arator at LP saying a sandstorm was going to wipe us out? (laughing).

The fact is we won in Iraq. The fact is it causes Iran a huge problem.

And 50 years from now, when historians look at this somewhat objectively, they'll see it as a big turning point in the Middle East.

JMHO.

Like I've said, the World is watching Israel like a Falcon.

Every move of moment will be seen as 'what did Israel do to provoke this'.

Same with the US/UK.

The fact is we won in Iraq. The fact is it causes Iran a huge problem.

What have we won in Iraq? Surely we haven't won many friends. We've made a lot of people rich, and we subsidize their power, but we haven't won any friends or allies. We haven't won oil. The drilling rights were won by Chinese oil companies. Basing rights? Other than State Dept wienies, we'll be completely out by Dec 2011. If Iraq were of a great strategic importance, especially against Iran, we wouldn't be leaving. We surely didn't bring democracy to Iraq. These people don't understand the concept.

Iran? Hah! When we leave, Iran will claim everything east of the Tigris River. They already have the dominant influence among the Shia majority. The Sunni will come under the Syrian and Saudi umbrellas.

The only winners here were the Kurds, who have gained semi-autonomy, much to the consternation of the Turks.

History will show otherwise. JMO.

10 years...20 years...100 years...history is never going to be able to find anything remotely "good" about this "invasion"...
