Free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens suggested Wednesday that his perceived character issues are fueled by the media and the reason he has yet to sign with a team this offseason.

Appearing on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone, Owens was asked if he was frustrated or surprised that he hasn't been signed by an NFL team. Market for Owens?

(Sidebar) NFL Network's Michael Lombardi says the lack of a market for Terrell Owens is due to a combination of three factors: His character questions, his deteriorating skills and his contract demands. More ...

"A little bit of both," he said.

"People have listened to a lot of the commentaries throughout a lot of the media outlets, mainly ESPN, that has my character in question as far as things that have happened in the past," Owens told the radio station.

"I may do 99 good things right and if I do one thing wrong, ESPN and the people on there ... make it out to be the worst thing ever."

"I think with the years that I've had, the last three to four years, I feel like I've tried to turn over a new leaf," Owens said. "But still they won't let go of what I did in the past."

Owens cited his good behavior with the Bills last season as evidence that he has changed.

"There was definitely a lot of opportunity for me to fly off the handle with the way things went. I stayed composed."

Owens appeared on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" in early June, and pointed out that the Cincinnati Bengals never mentioned his reputation during his March visit with team

"If character was such an issue, I don't think Cincinnati would have brought me in," he said, while also revealing that Donovan McNabb, his former nemesis with the Philadelphia Eagles, discussed a reunion before being traded to the Washington Redskins.

"I've heard a lot of the reasons why I'm not on a team right now," Owens said "It's because people feel I've disrupted some teams, I'm a cancer -- I've heard all those things. They've said that for the last five, six years. The teams I've been on, if you ask in that locker room how I've been as a teammate and as a person, it's contradictory to what's been displayed out there."

Owens said he doesn't have a problem competing for a roster spot. He also acknowledged he might not find a team until training camps begin in late July.

I meant to get this read and posted on Thursday but I'm running a little behind.

TO had better stay in shape on his own because when and if he does get picked up he may not have much of a season.

I'd like to see him with the Raiders trying to catch Kyle Boller's crap when they finally get a chance. That's really gonna make him throw a tantrum.

The Ravens newsletter comes on Friday and an article on Ed Reed distracted me. He had hip surgery in the offseason and is going to try to make it back for the first game. He said it may take until the Oct-Dec timeframe though. And he still needs some other operation.

No wonder he was making noises about retiring earlier this year.

TO's last shot was with the Cowboys.

Just wasn't as good as he thought.

Too bad he didn't know how to budget.

LeBron does. And note how the owners hate LeBron now. ;}

I was just thinking last night I hope this is Ray Ray's last year. He's obviously not the player he was even a few years back, and its time to start thinking about being able to walk when your 50. No surprise about Reed, he's a great player but has taken a serious beating over the years. He's the guy that takes the Ravens D up another notch, like that guy with the Colts does.

Don't be surprised if TO ends up in Cincinnati, maybe around the 3rd preseason game, for 3 million with incentives, maybe a bit less. Ocho, Bryant outside, TO in the slot...(chuckle) And we have a couple of interesting picks and FA's fighting it out for the 4th WR. Could see a lot more spread offense out of the Bengals this year.

Really disappointed Benson fucked up down in Texas couple of weeks ago. Don't know who started what...but you can't hit the bar scene if your an NFL player.

At least he isn't accused of rape, ala Rapelisberger...(grin)

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

I didn't post the part of the Ed Reed story where he met with management about long term health insurance because he has the same concerns, and he is very tight with Ray.

Vick was rumored on Yahoo to possibly be cut by the Eagles last Sat. Seems the bar problem is their old friends from when they were younger and they keep hanging out with them.

in my 40+ years of being a cowboys' fan, that's the worst thing they ever did. That clown was never really a cowboy.

LMFAO.

You, calcon, a Cowboys fan.

Good to know ya!

I believe I was about sixth grade when the Cowboys lost to Green Bay in the Ice Bowl.

I promised myself I'd never cry/put myself in that position again.

I lost a $ to my Old Man. ;}

Just heard Vick is not allowed to leave PA. Something must be going down, I don't know, but you don't tell someone they can't travel without a reason.

About Vick - I'm not sure who looks worse, the Eagles, or Tony Dungy.

Don't blame Ed Reed wanting long term health insurance. If I were a player, that would be in my contract, even if it cost me some cash up front. Smart move on his part, thinking long term.
