Title: Gingrich set to run in 2012?

Newt Gingrich visited Columbia and Charleston today for a pair of fundraisers -- his second visit to South Carolina since the spring.

Is he preparing a run for President 2012? I think so.

I know that a lot of the readers of this blog aren't excited about Gingrich, but I am. Here's why: Gingrich is the ONLY Washington political leader in my lifetime who actually managed to reduce federal government spending.

When Gingrich became speaker, federal spending was 22.4% of GDP. When he left, it was 18.4% of GDP. It was a magnificent accomplishment.

Yes, Clinton deserves some credit too. After two failed years in office, Clinton decided to go along with Gingrich in removing welfare from entitlement status, cutting the capital gains, and much more. America benefited from their collaboration.

What happened after Gingrich left office? George Bush and his big government GOP Congress escalated spending faster than any President since LBJ. Obama has made it worse.

I love Ron Paul. I voted for him and volunteered for him when he ran for President in 1988. However, he's not a young man any longer. He may have to be satisfied as being the godfather of America's second love affair with liberty. (Not a bad historical position!)

If Gingrich runs I will support him in the primaries because he is the only political leader in my life time that has actually managed to rein in government spending.

I also generally like Sarah Palin and will support her if she gets the nomination.

I will not support RINO Romney, Huckleberry, or Benito Giuliani because they do not represent the kind of party that Goldwater and Reagan spent so many years trying to build.

I don't plan on voting for him in the primaries. But if he gets the nomination he probably has my vote. Unless a winnable third party candidate magically appears.

A sure fire way of getting even worse, the next time around. Just say NO to scumbags! That type of candidate is a sure sign the GOP is shilling for hObama, just as they were in 2008. They're just passing the presidency from one party to the other, to keep up the illusion of choice. Come on, did you really think Juan McAmnesty could win? Both of our choices lost, but at least the guy I voted for (Chuck Baldwin) was American. I think the GOP got the message... NO MORE GLOBALIST PINHEADS! We'll see.

Gringrich will lose anyway, so you might as well vote for a pro-American candidate. Give the GOP the finger, early and often, they deserve it until they come up with some decent candidates.

IMO

80: Reagan, 84: Reagan, 88: Ron Paul, 92: Perot, 96: Perot, 00: Bush (yes, I blew it, big time), 04: Nader (the only real anti Iraw war candidate), 08: Bob Barr.

Respectable voting record. I don't understand your Nader vote though. Peroutka seems more your match.

Bob Barr was a respectable vote.

Good voting, both of ya. I made the horid mistake of voting for Bush in 2000, then Perokia in '04, and Baldwin '08.

I respect you both, for thinking outside of the box.

Thank you Sir.

I also blew it by voting for Bush in 2000.

I didn't vote for his father in 88 or 92, but I was fooled by W's rhetoric.

My bad, and I won't do it again.

I agree with you.

I like the Constitution Party. I actually met Howard Phillips a long time ago. He's a good guy.

I was so against the Iraq invasion (which had nothing to do with America's national security) that I was looking for a candidate who could register the largest anti-war vote. So I voted for Nader. Of course, it didn't work.

Little know fact: Nader's platform called for replacing all current federal taxes with a flat income tax of 25% after a $100,000 family deduction.

Even lesser known fact: In 1992, Art Laffer (of the Reagan / Kemp tax cuts, Laffer Curve, etc.) was an advisor to Jerry Brown in the 1992 Democrat primary. Brown's platform also called for replacing all current federal taxes with a flat rate income tax with a high personal exception. Jerry Brown lost to Clinton in the primary.

The mainstream left is all about big government. (So is the mainstream GOP) But there are actually a small number of people on the left who are more about local community than federal mandates.

What is the largest secessionist movement today? The Republic of Texas? NO!!!!! It's the Second Vermont Republic.

You and I don't agree with them culturally, but they dislike the federal government as much as we do.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I remember Jerry Brown and his "insurgent" campaign. I voted for him to try and stop Clinton. Bush had already sealed the nomination and I don't think Perot was quite on the scene yet.

My friend, you and I seem to have a lot in common. We want to put American on the right course and we don't care who does it.

Hopefully, we're seeing that same attitude with the Tea Party today.

Newt would be the best candidate that we could elect to the presidency. He has the brains, the conservative credentials and the experience and as much as I would love to see him as POTUS, he hasn't a chance. He is too short, too fat and does not have the fire needed to be a viable candidate. Sorry Newt but our country has become so shallow and ignorant I am 100% right. If he debated Obama, the MSM would shoot the camera angles to emphasize Newt's shortness. The people are so stupid that they would never vote Newt in as president. This is a sad state of affairs and only emphasizes that in order to survive we must stop the morons from being able to vote. There should be a test that every voter should have to take and pass every two years. The test should be the test that is given to immigrants to be granted citizenship. I'll bet that 80% of the US voters could not pass it today. If you will take the time to do a little research you will note that the founding fathers never intended for there to be universal suffrage. They were very wise. The lying liberal media and universal suffrage are the two greatest crimes being committed in the US today. Power to the people.

Hey man, I certainly agree that Newt is smart and really accomplished a lot while he was Speaker of the House.

Yeah, he's short and fat, but 2/3rds of Americans are overweight. Yes, I agree that there is some hypocrisy here.

Most importantly, who is going to administer to the voting be test? The same people that ruined our public schools? The same people who have ruined (and are poised to destroy) our health care system?

Smart people like you and I can sit here and propose a whole bunch of things, but in the end, can we trust government bureaucrats to implement what we think might work?????

Probably not.

I do not think that my ideas will be implemented at this time. I fully intend to survive the upcoming civil war and economic disasters. I will never be elected to any significant position and will wait for my chance after the "troubles" to institute my ideas. Power to the people! Remember, the future belongs to the prepared..

Newt was the real-deal conservative when he took over as House Speaker. Not only that, but one of the brightest men to enter politics in the 20th Century.

Then the Dims and the RINO's got together and took him down. It started with BullBush charges that weren't even worth mentioning, but it seems to have eventually worked into some serious blackmail threats/holds against him or a close family member. He went for several years and couldn't even buy advertising time on tv,and then suddenly he is back again on the Sunday talk shows and making appearances.

Either the blackmail they had on his expired (close family member that died or evidence that disappeared?),or he is being pushed to becoming a candidate in order to derail any other conservative candidate from gaining any momentum by his handlers.

I hope it is the first case, but fear it is the second.

They're just passing the presidency from one party to the other, to keep up the illusion of choice.

Those are my thoughts,also.

Could it have been any more obvious than John McLunatics outrage every time Palin scored points against Barry Soetoro? He would immediately come out and attack her while apologizing and making excuses for Barry.

Hell, there is even talk of drafting JEB Bush in 2012. Which supports my long-time theory that Barry Soetoro was elected because his presidency would be so bad it would make Boy Jorge's presidency look good by comparison, and this would make people want another Bush.

I didn't vote for his father in 88 or 92, but I was fooled by W's rhetoric.

I hated that evil old one-world bastard Poppy with a passion, and didn't support Boy Jorge in the primary because of the whole "the horseapple (Boy Jorge) doesn't fall far from the Horse's Ass (Poppy)" theory, but reluctantly voted for Boy Jorge in the general election because his opponent was Goober Gore.

That was the last time I ever cast a "lesser of two evil" votes, and the only time I will ever do this again is if somebody named Satan is running against somebody named Bush. In that case I WILL vote for the lesser of two evils, and cast my vote for Satan.
