Title: Gingrich set to run in 2012?

Newt Gingrich visited Columbia and Charleston today for a pair of fundraisers -- his second visit to South Carolina since the spring.

Is he preparing a run for President 2012? I think so.

I know that a lot of the readers of this blog aren't excited about Gingrich, but I am. Here's why: Gingrich is the ONLY Washington political leader in my lifetime who actually managed to reduce federal government spending.

When Gingrich became speaker, federal spending was 22.4% of GDP. When he left, it was 18.4% of GDP. It was a magnificent accomplishment.

Yes, Clinton deserves some credit too. After two failed years in office, Clinton decided to go along with Gingrich in removing welfare from entitlement status, cutting the capital gains, and much more. America benefited from their collaboration.

What happened after Gingrich left office? George Bush and his big government GOP Congress escalated spending faster than any President since LBJ. Obama has made it worse.

I love Ron Paul. I voted for him and volunteered for him when he ran for President in 1988. However, he's not a young man any longer. He may have to be satisfied as being the godfather of America's second love affair with liberty. (Not a bad historical position!)

If Gingrich runs I will support him in the primaries because he is the only political leader in my life time that has actually managed to rein in government spending.

I also generally like Sarah Palin and will support her if she gets the nomination.

I will not support RINO Romney, Huckleberry, or Benito Giuliani because they do not represent the kind of party that Goldwater and Reagan spent so many years trying to build.

I don't plan on voting for him in the primaries. But if he gets the nomination he probably has my vote. Unless a winnable third party candidate magically appears.

A sure fire way of getting even worse, the next time around. Just say NO to scumbags! That type of candidate is a sure sign the GOP is shilling for hObama, just as they were in 2008. They're just passing the presidency from one party to the other, to keep up the illusion of choice. Come on, did you really think Juan McAmnesty could win? Both of our choices lost, but at least the guy I voted for (Chuck Baldwin) was American. I think the GOP got the message... NO MORE GLOBALIST PINHEADS! We'll see.

Gringrich will lose anyway, so you might as well vote for a pro-American candidate. Give the GOP the finger, early and often, they deserve it until they come up with some decent candidates.

IMO

Here's mine:

80: Reagan, 84: Reagan, 88: Ron Paul, 92: Perot, 96: Perot, 00: Bush (yes, I blew it, big time), 04: Nader (the only real anti Iraw war candidate), 08: Bob Barr.

Respectable voting record. I don't understand your Nader vote though. Peroutka seems more your match.

Bob Barr was a respectable vote.

I agree with you.

I like the Constitution Party. I actually met Howard Phillips a long time ago. He's a good guy.

I was so against the Iraq invasion (which had nothing to do with America's national security) that I was looking for a candidate who could register the largest anti-war vote. So I voted for Nader. Of course, it didn't work.

Little know fact: Nader's platform called for replacing all current federal taxes with a flat income tax of 25% after a $100,000 family deduction.

Even lesser known fact: In 1992, Art Laffer (of the Reagan / Kemp tax cuts, Laffer Curve, etc.) was an advisor to Jerry Brown in the 1992 Democrat primary. Brown's platform also called for replacing all current federal taxes with a flat rate income tax with a high personal exception. Jerry Brown lost to Clinton in the primary.

The mainstream left is all about big government. (So is the mainstream GOP) But there are actually a small number of people on the left who are more about local community than federal mandates.

What is the largest secessionist movement today? The Republic of Texas? NO!!!!! It's the Second Vermont Republic.

You and I don't agree with them culturally, but they dislike the federal government as much as we do.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I remember Jerry Brown and his "insurgent" campaign. I voted for him to try and stop Clinton. Bush had already sealed the nomination and I don't think Perot was quite on the scene yet.

My friend, you and I seem to have a lot in common. We want to put American on the right course and we don't care who does it.

Hopefully, we're seeing that same attitude with the Tea Party today.
