Seems like only yesterday, but it's now been a year since Sarah Palin abruptly quit her governorship, leading many people to speculate that she was trying to get a jump on the 2012 presidential campaign. Anyone wondering if Palin will indeed run for president, and what her chances might be, should cast a glance at the new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. Per NBC's Mark Murray and friends:

[H]ere's the political reality: Outside of Republicans, she's not popular at all. According to our NBC/WSJ poll, just 29% view her favorably, compared with 43% who view her unfavorably (not far from George W. Bush's 29%-50% score).
Stop and ponder that one for a moment. Palin's poll numbers are nearly as horrible as George W. Bush's--but only one of them launched two wars and destroyed the economy. That's remarkable. But what's more remarkable, in light of this, is that the idea of George W. Bush running for another term (were such a thing possible) would be greeted by gales of laughter from the political cognoscenti, while the prospect of a Palin presidential campaign is taken seriously.

Looking at my scorecard I have been lied to about stuff that really matters more by republicans than democrats.

It's not even close and the dems have both LBJ and Bill Clinton on their side.

The MO of NeoCon Crazies since Ford elevated the Cheney/Rumsfeld Dynamic Duo:

Liz “BabyDick” Cheney and DNC: Ideological Soulmates? By: emptywheel Saturday July 3, 2010 5:53 am

A number of people have taken the DNC to task for its Rovian attack on RNC Chair Michael Steele for comments suggesting we might fail in Afghanistan (Glenn Greenwald, Greg Sargent, Adam Serwer). The only thing I would add to their comments is to note that not only a majority of the Democratic caucus in the House–as Glenn points out–but also two-thirds of Democrats in polls are ready to end the Afghan war, most of them strongly. Is the institutional Democratic Party trying to score political points on an issue that a solid majority of their party opposes? Really, we’ve gotten that stupid?!?

But what really demonstrates the stupidity of the move is how it puts us in ideological and political partnership with Liz “BabyDick” Cheney–who has called for Steele’s firing over his comments.

“RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s comments about the war in Afghanistan were deeply disappointing and wrong,” Cheney’s statement read. “The chairman of the Republican party must be unwavering in his support for American victory in the war on terror — a victory that cannot be accomplished if we do not prevail in Afghanistan. I endorse fully Bill Kristol’s letter to Chairman Steele. It is time for Chairman Steele to step down.”

Where BabyDick calls Steele’s comments “wrong” DNC calls them “unconscionable.” Where BabyDick demands that the RNC Chair “must be unwavering in support” for the Afghan war, DNC warns that Steele’s “words have consequences.”

All the 1/2 humans thinking out of their lizrd brained cortex are now n control.

You're joking right?

About what.

OK. Maybe 2 in a 100 are not.

What part of 'you can tell they're lying cause there lips are moving' do you not get.

All common currency zones define zones of predation, that is: define the regions that feed an imperial centre. The current European periphery includes such nations as Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and all of Eastern Europe. It may also include Italy and the Netherlands, as both of these areas have major debt issues (housing bubbles and national debt). It would also include the UK in a sense, despite the fact that the UK is not part of the single currency. The UK is an international financial centre of considerable stature, but has an enormous debt problem and very few visible means of support going forward, once North Sea oil and gas cease to provide revenues and the City of London takes an inevitable knock-out blow."

Sub our states and the Imperial City/DC for the above.

Louisiana police don’t have any right to tell you you can’t walk onto a public beach (even to, as Esman puts it, “roll around in sticky gunky tar that I’ll never be able to get off–if I want to, that’s my right”). However, they do have the right to mislead you about who they’re really working for. In Louisiana, as in many places, it’s legal for police officers to wear their uniforms regardless of whether they’re acting in an official capacity or working for a private corporation. Which is why Andrew Wheelan, the environmentalist mentioned above, was unaware that the cop who pressured him to stop filming a BP building and later pulled him over so that a BP official could question him wasn’t on duty at the time. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office told me that the deputy who pulled Wheelan over is just one of 40 in the parish who are working for BP on their own time. And the BP-police collusion goes beyond uniformed deputies moonlighting. In nearby Lafourche Parish, for example, the sheriff’s office is filling 57 security positions a week for BP; the shifts are on the clock, and BP reimburses the sheriff’s office for them.

McClelland’s bottom line: “…there you have it, plain as day: Down here, many cops do literally work for BP.”

Evil's just another name for "I want it all now. Give it to me or I'll take it."

A cold voice answered: "Come not between the Nazgul and his prey! Or he will not slay thee in thy turn. He will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the Lidless Eye."

A sword rang as it was drawn. "Do what you will; but I will hinder it, if I may."

"Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me!" The Return of the King: "The Battle of the Pelennor Fields," p. 116

Just exactly when do you think BigOil will stop killing the Planet?

"Now what proof do you have for this nonsense."

More proof. Does ANYONE here actually think the US Navy couldn't implode this well?

And Conventional Shaped Charges should do the trick.

Or that BP has more wherewithall than the US Government's Own Multi Trillion Dollar Military?

Please.

Or that the USCG is actually WORKING FOR British Petroleum? OR that it was INSANE for GObP's Joe Barton to APOLOGIZE to British Petroleum?

Did we win the Battle of New Orleans? 8D

You have some points. But I want to know how you tie this into talking lizards. I have never seen a talking lizard.

It implies that they talk.

It implies that they talk.

Then you received the wrong implication.

Because my implication, blatantly stated, was that the Upper Cortex is what these 1/2 humans (or maybe you'd like the term: Homo Rapiens better) are thinking out of 8D:

"Just as the mouse brain is a lizard brain "with some extra stuff thrown on top," Linden writes, the human brain is essentially a mouse brain with extra toppings. That's how we wound up with two vision systems. In amphibians, signals from the eye are processed in a region called the midbrain, which, for instance, guides a frog's tongue to insects in midair and enables us to duck as an errant fastball bears down on us. Our kludgy brain retains this primitive visual structure even though most signals from the eye are processed in the visual cortex, a newer addition. If the latter is damaged, patients typically say they cannot see a thing. Yet if asked to reach for an object, many of them can grab it on the first try. And if asked to judge the emotional expression on a face, they get it right more often than chance would predict‹especially if that expression is anger.

They're not lying about being unable to see. In such "blindsight," people who have lost what most of us think of as vision are seeing with the amphibian visual system. But because the midbrain is not connected to higher cognitive regions, they have no conscious awareness of an object's location or a face's expression. Consciously, the world looks inky black. But unconsciously, signals from the midbrain are merrily zipping along to the amygdala (which assesses emotion) and the motor cortex (which makes the arm reach out).

Primitive brains control movement with the cerebellum. Tucked in the back of the brain, this structure also predicts what a movement will feel like, and sends inhibitory signals to the somatosensory cortex, which processes the sense of touch, telling it not to pay attention to expected sensations (such as the feeling of clothes against your skin or the earth beneath your soles). This is why you can't tickle yourself: the reptilian cerebellum has kept the sensation from registering in the feeling part of the brain. Failing to register feelings caused by your own movements claims another victim: your sense of how hard you are hitting someone. Hence, "but Mom, he hit me harder!"

But because the midbrain is not connected to higher cognitive regions, they have no conscious awareness of an object's location or a face's expression.

In other words, they don't know what 'charity' is.

They don't know what 'empathy' is.

Cause they have neither.

The body gives you exactly what you pretend. Everytime.

Want to pretend you're thinking of immediate rewards/consequences with ZERO empathy for how you affect the future?

Then you're a 1/2 human thinking out of your 'lizard brain':

"In Our Messy, Reptilian Brains MSNBC - April 9, 2007

April 9, 2007 issue - Let others rhapsodize about the elegant design and astounding complexity of the human brain‹the most complicated, most sophisticated entity in the known universe, as they say. David Linden, a professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, doesn't see it that way. To him, the brain is a "cobbled-together mess." Impressive in function, sure. But in its design the brain is "quirky, inefficient and bizarre ... a weird agglomeration of ad hoc solutions that have accumulated throughout millions of years of evolutionary history," he argues in his new book, "The Accidental Mind," from Harvard University Press. More than another salvo in the battle over whether biological structures are the products of supernatural design or biological evolution (though Linden has no doubt it's the latter), research on our brain's primitive foundation is cracking such puzzles as why we cannot tickle ourselves, why we are driven to spin narratives even in our dreams and why reptilian traits persist in our gray matter."

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE:

"Update: July 4th, 2010 2:19 AM Government Ignores Public Outcry; Will Expand Restriction Zone

WKRG is now reporting that the Federal Government plan on expanding the restriction zone to include all booming operations and oil spill response efforts and will expanded to cover Mississippi, Alabama and Florida over the next few days."

" Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. _Captain Malcolm Reynolds

There is something deep in human nature which has resisted change -- despite the best efforts of crusaders, utopians, religionists, and wishful thinkers -- for many [tens of?] thousands of years. After countless failures to reform the human spirit, most utopians are unfazed. If they can only grab enough power and control over how resources are distributed, they are sure that they can bring perfection to the land, under their own benevolent leadership. "The land will heal, the sea levels will begin to subside, and every man will say to every other man, you are my brother." And so on.

Philosopher Roger Scruton -- author of The Uses of Pessimism -- takes a somewhat more reluctant view:

The belief that humanity makes moral progress depends upon a wilful ignorance of history. It also depends upon a wilful ignorance of oneself – a refusal to recognise the extent to which selfishness and calculation reside in the heart even of our most generous emotions, awaiting their chance. Those who invest their hopes in the moral improvement of humankind are therefore in a precarious position: at any moment the veil of illusion might be swept away, revealing the bare truth of the human condition. Either they defend themselves against this possibility with artful intellectual ploys, or they give way, in the moment of truth, to a paroxysm of disappointment and misanthropy. Both of these do violence to our nature. The first condemns us to the life of unreason; the second to the life of contempt.

...In order to see human beings as they are, therefore, and to school oneself in the art of loving them, it is necessary to apply a dose of pessimism to all one’s plans and aspirations. _GloomMerchant

Why has the U.S. Navy been held back from using its sophisticated technology that is at its disposal to protect vital Gulf Oil spill?

Because they don't have any,and you are confusing the USCG with the US Navy?

One writer has suggested an intentional ecocide.

Who? You? Your intellectual idol,Goober Gore?>

Ecocide is basically an "environmental genocide".

Ecocide os basically bullshit that was dreamed up by a pack of nervous Nellies with their panties all in a wad.
