The Politics of Panic By: Bob Owens Special to The Examiner 06/25/10 4:20 PM EDT Democrats in the House and Senate have colluded to push an expansive financial "reform" bill they don't even understand.
Lawmakers pulled an all-nighter, wrapping up their work at 5:39 a.m. -- more than 20 messy, mind-numbing, exhaustive hours after they began Thursday morning.
"It's a great moment. I'm proud to have been here," said a teary-eyed Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), who as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee led the effort in the Senate. "No one will know until this is actually in place how it works. But we believe we've done something that has been needed for a long time. It took a crisis to bring us to the point where we could actually get this job done."

The Democratic Party alternately alarms and mystifies me. They've devolved to the point that they simply don't care how or even if the legislation they pass is beneficial, targeted, or intelligent. Instead, they have insisted on a manic pace of pushing wide-ranging, extremely complex, and heavily-amended bills without even understanding what those bills contain. They use pure inertia instead of reason to push their policies, and count upon party loyalty and majorities in both houses to succeed. It is, in effect, the purest form of mob rule, operating at the highest level of government.
The progressive wing of the Party that temporarily holds the White House and both houses of Congress knows (and has known) that they will lose considerable power in Congress in November, and that they stand a chance of losing both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The bills currently being pushed by the progressive leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are a panicked, fourth-quarter attempt to force liberal, arguably socialist policies into place and have them become law before they are cast out of power. They don't have time to spare for surgical, precise laws that will benefit the nation. They only have time to create bloated monstrosities that serve to force radical and reckless "change."
This is precisely what occurred with the trainwreck of Obamacare. That fiasco caused Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to blurt out, "We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it." Months later, we are only just beginning to understand just how badly Obamacare will cripple the health care system in America, while imposing an insurmountable financial burden on future generations. It was this panicked rush to push through a bill based upon ideology instead of service that has created a massive grassroots effort to toss progressive Democrats out of power in November and repeal Obamacare.
We can rest assured that the this trainwreck of a financial bill is an equally shoddy construct, designed more to ensure Democratic political power than help our nation's economy. It is too early to tell if citizens can bring enough pressure on the Democratic mob to halt this bill before it passes through Congress to the President's desk to become law.
If it does pass, we'll simply have another reason to toss these radicals out of office at the ballot box come November, never to be allowed back in power again
