A Texas Republican congresswoman told colleagues on that House floor Wednesday that a columnist who accused Obama of planting the seeds for a Nazi state is a "brilliant man."

The little noticed quip was picked up by the liberal blog ThinkProgress late Wednesday.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) quoted conservative columnist Thomas Sowell, who declared in an opinion piece that Obama's effort to set up a $20 billion fund for those whose livelihoods were damaged by BP's oil spill signals that “American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece, before our very eyes.”

Gohlmert's remarks?

There’s a brilliant man named Thomas Sowell. And, um, I didn’t vote for Barack Obama in 2008, but I sure would have voted for Thomas Sowell. This man, well, his article says quite a lot. His editorial, um, says here — and it’s just been posted this week — but it says, “When Adolph Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920’s” — and I’m quoting from Thomas Sowell in his editorial:
‘leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics. Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler’s rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions. ‘Useful idiots’ was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union.’
And this isn’t in the article — this is my comment — but we do have useful idiots today, who are heard to say, ‘Wow, what we really need is for the president to be a dictator for a little while.’ They know not what they say.

That stated, anyone using a comparision to Hitler in American politics is a fool...and most likely needs to read a history of the 1933 - 1945 era.

Learning a man that tried to destroy your company just got sentence to 18 months in prison, and fined $600,000 will make ya a happy happy man. What a great day. Now, all I have to do is select the right card to send him in prison lol.

I see a lot of parallels between pre-WWII Germany, and the USA today. And I agree with Sowell's article.

If there are any similarities they're not coming out of the adminstration but our of the forces opposed. Appeals to nationalism {Obama is destroying America]...Race [The entire birther issue]...religion...it's all there...on the so called right side of the spectrum...

I do see the rush to discredited socialism...but using Hitler, with what he embodies in world history is ridiculous.

While the sheeple are finding obama to be wanting (compared to their "hope/change" mantra), the socialist mindset is still alive and well... Barring a miracle, I don't see that changing any time soon. Which means we'll keep voting for more prostitute politicians (in the vain belief that a new set of morons will be better than the OLD set of morons), the Fed will eventually force hyperinflation, and the whole house of cards will come down...

Which, from my studying of history, is pretty much how it went down in Weimar Germany...

No worries. I registered here a few years ago and when Goldi "suspended" me for a joke that apparently struck too close to home, I settled here - for the time being.

The elitists that have supported every president for the last few decades, are the ones supporting genocide.

Every president- beholden to those elitists due the financial backing and PR support during the elections- must obey the wishes of their financial masters. This is why, no matter who sits in the White House, nothing really changes...

I don't think that normal people support genocidal policies... But it's not too difficult to make the case that our politicians and MSM do, simply by their own press statements (one child policy, abortion on demand, carbon taxes, et al). Wasn't it Prince Charles who said, if reincarnation is true, he'd like to come back as a deadly virus?

All of these things hurt Joe and Jane Six-pack, make their lives Hell, and make them less likely to have children.

Contrast those same policies with the actions of those same elitists. How many children, for example, does Ted Turner have? When was the last time you heard of Al Gore driving a Prius, for example?

The "do as I say, not as I do" policies of the elitist are far-reaching, and their policies have predictable consequences for the non-elites...

I guess the new-TOS not only does not promote free speech or honesty (where Israel is concerned), but also doesn't believe in free competition.
