Texas Representative and Libertarian-minded Republican Ron Paul remains undecided on whether he will seek the presidency again in 2012, but believes that Republican voters will be more receptive to Libertarian and Tea Party-leaning candidates this time around. “And I think things have shifted because of the financial crisis as well as the bogging down of our foreign policy,” Dr. Paul said in an interview with the Daily Caller. “So the American people are looking for some different answers.”
Paul went on to say that although GOP voters will probably be more open to a small government Republican in 2012, he is “not on the verge of making a decision” on whether or not he will seek the presidency once again.
When asked who would make a good candidate for the GOP, Paul said Gary Johnson from New Mexico would make for an excellent candidate. Johnson, who served as the state’s governor from 1995 to 2003, is known for small government decisions while in office, including several privatizations and support for school choice vouchers.
Johnson currently chairs the “Our America Initiative” organization, which aims at educating the population on civil liberties, limited government and downsizing Washington D.C.
