Yes, I've gone through and made some relatively simply changes. Going by my own book, I just prefer a less than bright white screen. Given the title and what you mentioned by pmail, I thought maybe the top logo could be lettering made out of flame. Maybe you mentioned that but doing that kind of work is a little out of my area. I'm kind of a novice with the graphics work. But I'll have to rely on what you want to see from here on out (except for the admin screens... got outstanding work to do there yet. If you don't have a preference right now then it can come later bit by bit.
Flames would be great, if you can manage it. Bit by bit would be fine. When do you think it will be ready to go live?
I'll take a stab at it the flames. But it's otherwise pretty much ready to go live right now.

I can do the graphic. I'm very good with the GIMP under Linux.

Goldi just banned Brian for an anti- Semitic remark. Considering that she allows the unabashed slander of the entire Islamic faith, the hypocrisy is getting too much to take. Let me know if you are going to license this software for use generally as you once indicated. She just banned him, and didn't indicate it was anything but a permanent action. Of course I weighted right in with charges of hypocrisy as she has partaken in anti Islamic bigotry herself, and she lets the Crystalks run wild there. Hey, if you are going to throw rocks, don't live in a glass house. I'm tired of the hypocrisy of protection for one religion, but articles calling the Roman Catholic Church the work of Satan, and a constant treatment of a billion Muslims like they are guilty of the actions of a few is hypocrisy. Neil wouldn't allow anti Islamic bigotry at LP when he was there, and if you ant to be fair, you don't allow any religion to be scapegoated for the actions of a few. You don't just protect one or two and call it good.
My position was that religion/faith was fair game, regardless of whether it was christianity, islam or judaism, but that slaming groups of people on the basis of faith was not. Might be a fine line sometimes, but... many lines are fine when it comes to moderating anything but the tiniest set of rules. I didn't want a rule that unfairly protected jews without also protecting others, and it seems that jews have a tendency to take a lot more bashing on forums, as happened elsewhere it was permited.
For over a year, I have permitted biased and anti-semetic articles to be posted here in the spirit of free speech, although I personally found them repugnant. I have only removed 2 or 3 in the past year as being way over the top, and yet you have persisted in antagonizing me for each that I had to remove. You have resisted any attempt to work with LP and insisted on posting articles that you know would cause issues. You have ridiculed Jews, made anti- semetic comments, and said things primarily to provoke a reaction. And although I tried over and over to ignore it and still keep LP civil, you continued to raise the bar. Today, you finally convinced me that you have no interest in being civil; you have indicated your complete disrespect for me and for LP, and LP members. Your antagonism has finally made it imperitive that I ban you. It is not something I enjoy doing, nor do I want to. Your actions have made it mandatory. So, it is you and you alone that have made this action necessary. It's too bad your hatred of Jews and me has made you so sour and nasty to so many. Your membership here has not been a positive one. Yes, I have your post at LP to that effect bookmarked and thought about it allot as I listened to people slam everyone and his mom if they merely did not belong to a religion that person did not like. Moderating can be a job that is not very fun because of the fine line of fairness that one must walk in doing a good job of it. It is also something that must be kept on top of and not done sporadically if the forum is going to build a reputation as one that is fair. I wish you luck with your forum, and from the looks at how badly my exchanges with Goldi are going, I might be here far more often then I thought. ;-)
Yeah, she is now quite pissed at me too. Well, she can either ban be for expressing my opinion, or not. As anyone doing that to me will never shut me up when I have something to say about something. It's just the way I'm built.

I'm unsure if I'll go through with that, but I am hosting new forums myself at a cost I think is reasonable. (Pinguinite.com has info on that). Releasing to the public means creating an installation program and efficient upgrade system for remote users anytime there are changes and that's one of the reasons I'm in not so much of a hurry. I'm also uncertain of the financial benefit for me over just having my own forum shop, But I'm open to working with people to have it work with them in any particular arrangement. If a ton of people would want to run it themselves on their own servers, then I'll work in that direction. It's just a question of efficient economics. Forums I host are always running the latest and greatest without any special effort from me. If it's hosted remotely, I would probably need to be called in from time to time to fix things and/or do upgrades and stuff which I would bill for. Or if licensing would not be under GPL, but by fee then that's another thing, but being the lousy salesman than I am and always have been, I don't think attaching a price for it's use is something I can persue on any scale. It would be tough enough for a real salesman, I think. But if you're serious, send me a note and we'll talk.
From a user standpoint Neil, whatever you do behind the scenes makes for a smooth, efficient running forum. Keep up the great work, senor. How do I do that tilde thingy?
I'm convinced that even if you do a perfect job of moderating, you'll be slamed as being biased/unfair by a substantial minority. You need to be prepared to spend time defending people you highly disagree with, and do so thanklessly, and even taking criticism from those same people at different turns. Even Jesus got crucified. To be clear at the outset, this forum is A K A Stone's. I'm just the maintenance guy. My role here is the same as with 4um and PostLiberty (and the non political forum snorttruck.com which is presently in stasis). A K A Stone deals with all administrative/content/moderating matters.
Thanks, I shall. There is an entire dormant online community that is lamenting not having a home anymore that used to be at Time.Com /Politics. In any event, it is good to see you open this venue. And it will be getting my article posting business from now on, and I look forward to seeing it grow and develop. Not to mention helping it do so in whatever small ways I can. Missed? I did pay a visit on LP within the last couple weeks to help celebrate Badeye's 60,000th post. Didn't want him to pass that milestone without some recognition.

Wellllll, doggies. I haven't been permanently banned there yet, but about a month ago I got a one-week suspension for the kind of thing that Crystalk or Ghostie get away with every other posting, so I'd guess my time there isn't long. Thanks for pointing me over here, gents.

No, I'm the same Quatermass that you see on Goldi's site. I don't have any other names - this is the one I was using when I got banned from TOS when I suggested that the only reason Tom Monaghan (of Domino's Pizza fame)wanted to build a 100-foot-tall cross on his property was so that he could climb up on it when he thought he was being picked on.

It does look good and is very responsive...still, I have a quibble with the fonts used for the thread. The screen names are perhaps overly BOLD while the substance of the posts is such a small, thin font that you tend to lose the gist of the thread, imho. To me, it's the words that matter, not necessarily who is posting who...MUD

Myself, I'd not suggest making the comments bold as that would confuse matters more, and prevent people from highlighting text by making it bold.

I never called her any names and she still banned me. She actually banned me because I posted that a major US communications company was blocking Liberty Post. She couldn't handle that; it really pissed her off apparently. Maybe she thought I was making it up, but I wasn't. Free Republic and even Liberty Forum were not blocked however, but LP was.
