Several US media outlets are claiming that US intelligence was aware Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was planning to take military action against Russia’s defense establishment before his short-lived uprising began on Friday. According to a report from The New York Times, US intelligence officials briefed senior military and Biden administration officials on Wednesday about Prigozhin’s plans. Ukraine Says F-16 Training for Ukrainian Pilots Will Start in July

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said Saturday that training for Ukrainian pilots on US-made F-16 fighter jets should begin next month. “The designated persons have been identified, the program will be prescribed by the beginning of July, it will be announced, (and) I can optimistically say that training will begin in July already,” Reznikov said, according to Reuters. Two US B-1B Lancer bombers arrived in Sweden this week as Stockholm is awaiting entry into NATO. According to the US military, it marks the first time US bombers landed in the Nordic nation. “Two Air Force B-1B Lancer supersonic strategic bombers from the 7th Bomb Wing, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, landed at Luleå Kallax Airbase, Sweden for the first time in history, June 19, 2023,” US Air Forces Europe said in a press release. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced $1.3 billion in new economic aid for Kyiv at a meeting on Ukraine’s reconstruction held in London, known as the Ukraine Recovery Conference. Russian officials said Thursday that a bridge in northern Crimea that connects to Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine’s Kherson Oblast was damaged by a Ukrainian missile strike. No casualties were reported in the strike, and Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-installed acting governor of Kherson, said the damage to the bridge should be repaired within a few days. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to Denmark this weekend for a meeting organized by Ukraine that is expected to be attended by officials from several countries that have remained neutral on the war, including India, China, South Africa, and Brazil. The New York Times reported Monday that the US and its Western allies have shipped weapons to Ukraine that were broken and needed repair or were only useful for spare parts. The report also said that Ukraine has not received weapons from contractors that it has paid for. A group of Belarusian exiles is receiving training in Poland to prepare for a day when they return to Belarus to take on the government of President Alexander Lukashenko, The Times reported on Sunday. The Times spoke with Belarusians who were training in a field behind a business park in Poznan, Poland. The training was organized by Bypol, a group of former officers from Belarusian security services that was formed after the 2020 presidential election in Belarus and the protests that followed.
