DETROIT (AP) -- Within five years, a majority of ride-hailing company Lyft's rides will be in self-driving cars, the company's co-founder and president predicted on Sunday. John Zimmer also said that personal car ownership will come to an end because autonomous rides will become a cheaper way to travel than owning an automobile. He made the predictions in an essay on the future of transportation in urban areas. Technology, auto and ride-hailing companies are moving quickly toward self-driving vehicles. San Francisco-based Lyft is testing autonomous cars on the streets of San Francisco and Phoenix in partnership with General Motors. Its main competitor Uber is starting to carry ...

Ohio Gov. John Kasich isn't ruling out voting for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, though he says it's "highly unlikely" he'll support his former rival. "I'll let everybody know when, but I think my actions have spoken very loudly, louder than even my words," Kasich told CNN's Dana Bash in an interview broadcast Friday on "New Day." The former Republican presidential candidate indicated he won't vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton and hasn't considered voting for Libertarian Gary Johnson. "So is it still possible that you could vote for Donald Trump?" Bash pressed. "Very unlikely," Kasich ...
Scott Walker Leaks Could Force Supreme Court to Confront Dark Money Post Date: 2016-09-19 13:49:55 by Willie Green

Rarely do members of the public get to see behind the closed doors of political nonprofits, which may receive unlimited amounts of money from mega-donors without disclosing anything about their operations. But a trove of leaked documents from an investigation into Wisconsin Governor Scott Walkers 2012 recall election campaign has offered an unprecedented look at how politicians operate in a post-Citizens United world that features record levels of undisclosed political money. The documents, leaked to The Guardian newspaper, detail the allegedly illegal coordination between Walkers campaign and an outside group. Walker, in a scramble to win a bitterly contested election, asked a ...

WASHINGTON (AP) The U.S. government has mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants from countries of concern to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud who had pending deportation orders, according to an internal Homeland Security audit released Monday. The Homeland Security Department's inspector general found that the immigrants used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and such discrepancies weren't caught because their fingerprints were missing from government databases. The report does not identify any of the immigrants by name, but Inspector General John Roth's ...

The cops were looking for a meth dealer who had not lived there for at least a year. A SWAT team breaks into a home early in the morning based on an informant's tip, expecting to find an armed methamphetamine dealer. Instead they encounter an innocent family with several young children. Those were the circumstances in which police in Habersham County, Georgia, nearly killed a toddler with an errant flashbang grenade in 2014, leading to a lawsuit that was eventually settled for $3.6 million. Something similar happened last week in Mesa County, Colorado. This time no one was injured or killed, although things easily could have turned out differently. Around 11:30 p.m. last Tuesday night, ...

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) had its worst-ever election in Berlin Sunday, when the party was voted out of power. Surging nationalist party Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) was declared the big winner after reaching a high share of votes in notoriously liberal Berlin. Merkels CDU, on the other hand, suffered its worst election results in the capital since Germanys reunification in 1990. CDU has been losing seats in state assemblies across Germany throughout the year as people show dissatisfaction with Merkels open-door immigration stance. CDU dropped almost six points from the election in 2011, finishing with just 17.5 percent ...

BEFORE he suited up to play against the New York Giants in 2012, Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Eben Britton took an ice bath followed by a hot shower. He did his routine stretches. Then he smoked a joint. In fact, Britton who also played for the Chicago Bears but left the league in 2014 tells The Post he played three NFL games while high on marijuana. NFL games I played stoned were some of the best games I ever played. Cannabis cements your surroundings, he says. A lot of people say theyre useless when they smoke weed. Australian Efforts to Dump the United Nations Gain Momentum Post Date: 2016-09-18 08:43:17 by HomerBohn

As the United Nations becomes increasingly radical in its assaults on liberty and national sovereignty, the movement for free nations to leave the dictator-dominated UN has now officially arrived in Australia. Speaking on the floor of Parliament in his inaugural address, newly elected Senator Malcolm Roberts (shown) with the One Nation party said Australian values were under threat from insidious institutions such as the unelected UN. To deal with it, he called for an OzExit. In a passionate defense of freedom, Roberts also blasted privately owned central banks and the incestuous relationship between global mega-banks and Big Government. The tide is already turning. ...

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said late Saturday night that it is important to know the facts before drawing conclusions about incidents such as the explosion in New York City. Clinton told reporters in the back of her campaign plane en route from Washington to New York state that she had been briefed on the episode, which she referred to as a bombing, wanted to be supportive of first responders and was praying for victims. Asked what she thought of her Republican opponent Donald Trump immediately referring to the explosion as a bomb earlier Saturday night, Clinton said: I think its important to know the facts about any incident like this. ...

On this day in 1787, the founders of this nation finished writing a Constitution that in the intervening 229 years has helped make America the greatest nation on earth. When voters go to the polls on Nov. 8, the American people will decide whether that document will continue to serve as the Supreme Law of the Land. America declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776. Then in 1777 the signers of the Declaration adopted the Articles of Confederation, creating a common government that would bind the 13 newly minted states together as a nation, forming a confederation of sovereign states. But it became clear that America would not survive under the Articles. Americans stuck together ...

In the past five years, the New York Police Department has spent $347,000 on false arrest lawsuit settlements. According to the Village Voice, these costs stem from the citys gravity knife statute. Passed in 1958, the law banned New York residents from carrying knives fitted with blades that fall out of the handle as the user points them toward the ground while pushing the lever. This antiquated law is responsible for thousands of yearly arrests, despite the fact that current knife designs bear no resemblance to the blades of yesteryear. But estimates suggest that over the past ten years, this particular ban has been the reason for the prosecution of 60,000 New ...

Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein failed to make the cut for the first presidential debate on Sept. 26, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced on Friday afternoon, in a significant blow for their campaigns. Though Johnson and Stein satisfied two of the criteria necessary to participate that they be constitutionally eligible and have achieved ballot access in a sufficient number of states to win a theoretical Electoral College majority neither met the threshold on polling. The commission said Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have been formally invited to participate in the first presidential debate later this month, while ...
