I received this invitation today from Joseph Gerson, president of NGO Campaign for Peace Disarmament and Common Security, inviting me to attend this online seminar concerning the risks of an “Asia-Pacific NATO” that is being held on July 4. I have spoken with Mr. Gerson on the phone and corresponded with him on several occasions and he made it clear that his organization did not want to meet with me or have any interaction with me. The Supreme Court ruled Friday that Colorado cannot require an evangelical Christian web designer to provide same-sex wedding websites. The court found that the state’s anti-discrimination law violates Lorie Smith’s free speech rights under the First Amendment by demanding she creates same-sex wedding websites if she wants to do so for opposite-sex unions. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is among several federal agencies that were impacted by a global cyberattack that exploited a software vulnerability. Daniel Penny, the former Marine and subway hero, was arraigned on Wednesday in a brief legal step toward a full jury trial. He pleaded not guilty to the two charges the grand jury brought against him: second- degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Second-degree manslaughter is the killing of another human being without the intent of doing so, and is often referred to as involuntary manslaughter. It is a story from which we can all learn. As we consider this story, we can embrace Ellsberg as an exemplar as much as he was a courageous man of conscience.
