Families, victims of officer misconduct say Cleveland police reform is still necessary (video)

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made it clear that he feels the types of large-scale police reform efforts undertaken by Barack Obama's Justice Department, much like the binding federal agreement with Cleveland's police department, are unnecessary. For the people affected by past misconduct by officers within Cleveland police, reform is more important now as it has ever been. The city entered into its consent-decree agreement with the Justice Department in May 2015. In doing so, it acknowledged its police department had problems that warranted a drastic reworking in how it operates and how officers interact with residents. People like Cleveland Police Patrolmen's ...

The Justice Department indicted four people on Tuesday, charging three former New York Police Department officers and a former Brooklyn prosecutor for alleged involvement in a corruption scheme to speed up the acquisition of New York City gun permits. Three retired police officers and a former prosecutor were charged Tuesday in a corruption investigation into New York City's gun-licensing agency. The charges say gun-licensing expediters bribed police officials to obtain gun permits. The city's gun permits are distributed by the New York Police Department, and some seeking the permits turn to expediters to help speed up the process. Complaints revealed Tuesday by the Justice ...

There are 22 years between teacher and middle school student and neighbors say, serving that time in prison is the least that should happen to Northwest Academy teacher Chadwick Zamarron. "Castrate him,” Ms. Cynthia Riley said, “I think we are hearing more and more and more about...we just heard something that happened Tuesday, something last week and the week before that, I don't think, I mean it is getting worse." Riley lives across from Northwest Academy in Pikesville, she sent two of her children there and is about to send her grandchild next year. She is horrified at the thought of not knowing about a predator because in this case, Baltimore County Police say ...

The art of the deal? WASHINGTON ― President Donald Trump said Thursday that he was on the verge of withdrawing the United States from the North American Free Trade Agreement until the leaders of Mexico and Canada talked him out of it. “I was going to terminate NAFTA as of two or three days from now,” Trump said at the White House. But then, Trump said, he got phone calls from the leaders of Canada and Mexico, two men he likes very much. “They called me and they said, rather than terminating NAFTA, could you please renegotiate?” Trump said. “I respect their countries very much. The relationship is very special and I said I will hold on the termination, ...

Democrats are furious that House Republicans are asking them to vote on a short-term funding measure to keep the government open in order to buy them time to find a bipartisan compromise, while at the same time moving to rush through a bill to repeal Obamacare that could give President Trump a major legislative victory ahead of his 100 ...

California single-payer healthcare bill passes first committee test

A sweeping measure that would establish government-run universal healthcare in California cleared its first legislative hurdle Wednesday as scores of supporters crammed into the Capitol to advocate for a single-payer system. The Senate Health Committee approved the measure on a 5-2 vote after a nearly three-hour hearing, but Democrats and Republicans alike signaled unease with the major question still unanswered in the legislation: how the program would be paid for. The bill, SB 562, would establish a publicly run healthcare plan that would cover everyone living in California, including those without legal immigration status. The proposal would drastically reduce the role of insurance ...

Former Obama Official: Bureaucrats Manipulate Climate Stats To Influence Policy

A former member of the Obama administration claims Washington D.C. often uses “misleading” news releases about climate data to influence public opinion. Former Energy Department Undersecretary Steven Koonin told The Wall Street Journal Monday that bureaucrats within former President Barack Obama’s administration spun scientific data to manipulate public opinion. “What you saw coming out of the press releases about climate data, climate analysis, was, I’d say, misleading, sometimes just wrong,” Koonin said, referring to elements within the Obama administration he said were responsible for manipulating climate data. He pointed to a National Climate Assessment ...

'Has there ever been an organization in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?' says distinguished academic Noam Chomsky has argued the Republican Party is the most “dangerous organisation in human history” and the world has never seen an organisation more profoundly committed to destroying planet earth. The eminent intellectual, who is famed for his radical views, said the Trump administration had shown total and utter disregard for the future of the planet and appeared dedicated to dismantling previous legacies to tackle climate change. Gorsuch Puts Down the Left’s Serial Rapist

A few months after lefty activists crowded Washington D.C. for the Women’s March, activists from many of those same organizations went to bat for a serial rapist and murderer. Ledell Lee’s victims were all women.  While he was on trial for the rape and murder of Debra Reese, the testimony of three of his rape victims was presented. Lee had made a habit of knocking on doors and asking to borrow some tools to see whether a woman’s husband might be home. Debra Reese called her mother and told her that a strange man had tried to borrow some tools. A few minutes later, Ledell Lee had beaten her to death with a tire thumper. Marks on her neck showed that the former baby ...

Nancy Pelosi’s mission on Tuesday was to give a brief speech and not renew questions about her health. She couldn’t do it. During Pelosi’s brief 7-minute speech to Refugees International, the House Democratic Leader garbled names, other words and even mispronounced countries. She congratulated honorees for their well-deserved “resc — recognition.” Pelosi complimented Refugees International’s “strong moral varce — voice.” She said America “degrades our values and our security when we slam the door in the face of children freeing — fleeing atrocities.” She botched country names as she read them from her notes. “With the ...

The biography by David Garrow, “Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama,” is set to come out on May 9. Garrow wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Martin Luther King Jr., and is a regular contributor to The New York Times and The Washington Post. In a chapter about the former president’s two years at Occidental College, Garrow reveals a close relationship Obama had with an openly gay assistant professor named Lawrence Goldyn. “Goldyn made a huge impact on Barry Obama,” Garrow wrote in the book. “Almost a quarter century later, asked ...

Video: How Russia and Syria lied about the chemical weapons attack

The day after the chemical weapons attack in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun, I wrote a post titled “Surprise! Russia is lying about Syrian chemical weapon attack.” My reaction at the time was mostly based on Russia’s previous behavior, i.e. lying about an airstrike on a relief convoy last year, lying about its involvement in Ukraine, etc. That coupled with the fact that Syria had used chemical weapons several times previous to the attack this month led me to believe Russia was once again lying to protect the Assad regime. Later, we learned that the U.S. military had information showing the jets used in the chemical attack had been launched from the Al Shayrat ...

You know who would benefit a lot from Trump's tax plan? Donald Trump.

The tax plan President Trump unveiled on Wednesday is really only a single page of bullet points, but it's already pretty clear that a big beneficiary of the proposals would be super-wealthy chieftains of private real estate empires who have children. One big winner from the proposals would be "pass-through" businesses like the Trump Organization and its hundreds of subsidiaries, where owners file business income on their individual returns — depending on how the law is written, such business owners could pay a 15 percent tax rate instead of an individual rate of up to 35 percent. "Trump is the king of pass-throughs," said Steven Rosenthal at the nonpartisan Tax ...

The global elite think they're sitting pretty. How wrong they are. Democrats keep telling themselves that Hillary Clinton "really" won the 2016 election (or would have, had it not been for interference by Vladimir Putin and James Comey). Republicans keep patting themselves on the back about how much power they now wield at all levels of government. And centrists throughout the West are breathing a sigh of relief about Emmanuel Macron's likely victory over the National Front's Marine Le Pen in the second round of the French presidential election on May 7. You can almost hear the sentiments echoing down the corridors of (political and economic) power on both sides of the ...

When President Donald Trump’s administration announced earlier this week that they were holding an all-hands-on-deck meeting at the White House about the North Korean crisis, the most obvious question was why they would hold a meeting usually reserved for Capitol Hill. The answer, it seems, is that they put on a show for its own sake.Nothing new was divulged during the Wednesday meeting, according to a number of senators who attended and spoke with CNN afterward. After briefly appearing to discuss the crisis in North Korea, Trump passed the baton to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint ...

White House: Donald Trump’s Dramatic Whiplash on NAFTA ‘Art of the Deal’

President Donald Trump will renegotiate NAFTA rather than terminate it, after a day of chaos sent top business interests and members of congress scrambling. Trump confirmed the news on Thursday morning. “I received calls from the President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada asking to renegotiate NAFTA rather than terminate,” he wrote on Twitter. “I agreed subject to the fact that if we do not reach a fair deal for all, we will then terminate NAFTA. Relationships are good — deal very possible!” A senior White House advisor described the abrupt whiplash on NAFTA as the president’s “art of the deal,” rather than a swift reaction to a misstep. ...

Why Foreign Policy Trips Up Libertarians
Post Date: 2017-04-27 07:49:41 by Gatlin
17 Comments
Libertarians have a bad reputation when it comes to foreign policy. In fact, it is one of the chief impediments to many in supporting libertarian thinking, and one of the greatest criticisms of the Libertarian Party (LP). It is typically viewed by non- libertarians that libertarians falter and stumble when it comes to making and supporting foreign policy. However, most typically, when people criticize libertarians for their foreign policy thinking, it has more to do with misunderstanding on the part of the non-libertarian than it has to do with weakness in libertarian philosophy. Understanding various aspects and nuances of libertarian principles and their application is key to ...

People who have had their brains cryogenically frozen could be 'woken up' within three years, a pioneering Italian surgeon has claimed. Professor Sergio Canavero, Director of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, is aiming to carry out the first human head transplant within 10 months and then wants to begin trials on brain transplants. If the procedures are successful, he believes that frozen brains could be thawed and inserted into a donor body. Hundreds of people who are dying or paralysed have had their bodies or brains cryogenically preserved in the hope that medical science will be able to bring them back to life and cure their conditions. Although many experts are ...

It has been said that libertarians could argue for hours about the best way to draw a straight line. Well, when it comes to Donald Trump they could argue forever. Here at the Rebel, young Libertarians like Lauren Southern and I support Donald Trump without much hesitation and there are many good reasons for this: * He wants to lower and streamline taxation * He is generally non-interventionist about foreign policy * He is calling out the mainstream media lies and PC culture * He has a chance of beating Hillary, unlike Libertarian Party candidates * He is pro-privatization of land and soft on guns as a means of protecting property Yet some libertarians, like John Stossel and Thomas Sowell, ...
