Black student group at UC Santa Cruz threatens more campus takeovers if additional demands not met

‘There will be more Reclamations’ University of California Santa Cruz administrators recently agreed to meet to all four demands lodged by a black student group who commandeered a campus building and would not leave until their conditions were met. But in addition to the four initial stipulations, the group made three other demands to the university, and it has warned UC Santa Cruz that it has four months to comply with these demands or “more Reclamations” will result. After three days of occupation by students of Kerr Hall, Chancellor George Blumenthal agreed to give all black and Caribbean-identified students a 4-year housing guarantee to live in the Rosa Parks ...

The shocking moment a man shot and killed a gunman in a shootout has been captured on surveillance video - and police say he won't be charged. A motorist pulled out a gun when Ronald Morales, 43, approached his car at a gas station in Elmwood Park, Illinois. The men shot at each other multiple times in broad daylight before Morales ran away and the driver sped off. Morales eventually died from his injuries - but police say they won't be charging the man who killed him because he was acting in self defense. Police say on April 8, at 4:52pm, Ronald Morales (seen in red jacket) made eye contact with a man pumping gas at BP gas station in Elmwood Park, IllinoisMorales exited the ...

FDA Hypocrisy on Marijuana and Prescription Drugs Is Worse Than We Thought

By Carey Wedler One-third of FDA-approved drugs were later found to have safety risks, according to a recent analysis of drugs cleared by the agency between 2001 and 2010. According to the study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, “Among 222 novel therapeutics approved by the FDA from 2001 through 2010, 71 (32.0%) were affected by a postmarket safety event.” A postmarket safety event includes “(1) withdrawals due to safety concerns, (2) FDA issuance of incremental boxed warnings added in the postmarket period, and (3) FDA issuance of safety communications.” The researchers, many of them from Yale University, found these events were more common ...

Scientists say the government’s only pot farm has moldy samples — and no federal testing standards

A researcher in Dr. Sue Sisley’s lab pours out a sample of marijuana produced by the federal facility responsible for growing cannabis for clinical research. When she received marijuana for a PTSD trial last year, Sisley says the packages contained mold and weren’t as potent as she requested. Photo courtesy of MAPS. Sue Sisley, a primary care physician in Scottsdale, Arizona, recalls the moment she picked up the carefully wrapped package fresh from the delivery truck. Nearly two years after Sisley and her colleagues were awarded a grant to study marijuana as a treatment for 76 military veterans suffering from chronic post-traumatic stress disorder, her shipment of the drug was ...

Why Don’t Americans Trust The Federal Government?

Why do polls continue to indicate that the American people feel forgotten and mistrust the federal government? The Pew Research Center has released its annual poll numbers regarding the percentage of Americans who trust the federal government. The release of these new polls add to a growing amount of evidence that the public’s view of the federal government has been in a steady decline for decades. The Pew Research Center’s sampled 1,501 adults between April 5th to the 11th. Only 20 percent of those polled said they trust the government to do what is right “always” or “most of the time.” A whopping 68 percent admitted that they only trusted the government ...

The House of Representatives Endorses Obamacare (GOP Loves Obamacare Just not the name)
Post Date: 2017-05-11 05:19:48 by Deckard

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives crafted a partisan compromise bill that endorsed and reinforced the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. This was done notwithstanding claims to the contrary by President Donald Trump and the House Republican leadership, who want us to believe that this bill, if it becomes law, will effectively repeal and replace Obamacare. Obamacare is a stool with four problematic legs. The constitutional leg is the premise that the federal government has the lawful power to regulate the delivery of health care. The legal leg is the premise that the federal government is obliged to provide health insurance to everyone in America. The economic leg commands that ...

Why Is Michigan Still Forcing Minors to Take Unconstitutional Breathalyzer Tests?

A new bill may end this absurd practiceMichigan is the only state in the country to penalize minors for refusing to take breathalyzer tests—even if they're not driving. Despite multiple federal court decisions finding the practice unconstitutional, the state persists in the practice of testing kids for booze. This has enraged former attorney and State Rep. Peter Lucido (R–Shelby), who has introduced legislation to bring Michigan law and police practices in line with the Constitution. "By exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to say no," he says of minors who refuse Preliminary Breath Tests or (PBTs) "they get a two point violation and $100 ...

Mexico Ranked Second Deadliest Country in the World

As the total number of conflict fatalities decreased around the world in 2016, the number of intentional homicides exploded in Mexico. With 23,000 homicides in 2016, Mexico ranked as the second deadliest country in the world, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) revealed in their Armed Conflict Survey. The report, published on Tuesday, highlighted the effect that drug cartels are having in Latin America. Leading the way are Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador: This assessment of violence in the region is based on more than numbers, although the 39,000 people killed in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador in 2016 indicate a security crisis much more ...

Gay baboon terrorises villagers, rapes 5 men

Men at a village in the North West are leaving in fear over a big male baboon that likes to grope and bonk human males. The baboon is said to have attacked more than six men in the past week and what’s baffling the villagers is the fact that the baboon only attacks guys and does not hurt it’s victims but rather performs sexual acts on top of the terrified victim and leaves. One victim, George Chiune said he was coming from the local shebeen when the baboon attacked him and pinned him down. “I thought it wanted to kill me but realized it was after my bum,”, George said. Five men were admitted to hospital yesterday after experiencing acute anal pains and fatigue. ...

According to figures released yesterday, the number of illegal aliens crossing the U.S. southwestern border has dropped by an astonishing 76% since President Trump took office. More specifically, the number of minor children crossing the border with or without a parent has been cut even further. Washington Times: Illegal immigration across the southwestern border is down a stunning 76 percent since President Trump was elected, with the flow of children and families dropping even faster as analysts say the administration's commitment to enforcing the law has changed the reality along the border. Overall apprehensions by the Border Patrol dropped to just 11,129 in April, according to ...

Special Cinco de Mayo Greetings from Chicano Icon Che Guevara

“Mexicans are mostly a rabble of illiterate indians” (Che Guevara, 1955). In the historic annals of unrequited love few cases rival the affair by Chicanos with Che Guevara. I trust Che’s iconization is sufficiently documented by U.S. Chicano groups in their murals (i.e. graffiti.)  They seem to plaster this lily white Argentinian racist’s mug on practically everything they paint to celebrate their Amerindian Aztec culture. Go figure. Perhaps a word with some Bolivian Amerindians who actually experienced Che Guevara’s plans to Stalinize their culture would help. In 1967 these (overwhelmingly indigenous) Bolivians (with help from U.S. Green Berets) made short ...

Maddie McGinnis, an eighth-grade student at St. James Catholic School in Millstadt, was concerned about violence against police, and after the death of St. Louis County Police Officer Blake Snyder, she wanted to do her part to help out. Maddie designed a yard sign supporting police officers — “We Support Our Local Law Enforcement” — and then she started spreading the word. She thought she would sell 100 signs, but the demand was twice that, and then a second order for another 200 signs came in. With larger orders, she was able to make more money per sign, and in the end, Maddie raised $2,130 for BackStoppers, which provides financial support for law enforcement ...

Carroll Community Showing Outstanding Support For Carroll Police Department K-9 Fund -

It has only been a little over one month since four Carroll High School sophomores announced their plans to solicit donations for the Carroll Police Department’s K-9 unit. In early April, Kayde Nissen, Merkl Kauch, Tyler Tuning and Tyler Comstock expanded on a class project that only called for them to come up with a fundraising idea. They put that plan into action, and though the Carroll Police Department has not had a K-9 in service since 2007, Chief, Brad Burke, reports they are getting much closer. As of Tuesday, the K-9 fund has raised $6,375. The fundraising efforts continue as the cost of acquiring and training a new K-9 officer can be up to or more than $20,000. For those ...

It’s not just Comey: the scary past 24 hours in Trump-Russia, explained

The Comey firing is rightly dominating the news. Amazingly, though, it wasn’t the only major development in the ongoing and intensifying Trump-Russia scandal. The official reason for FBI Director Jim Comey’s dismissal is that he mishandled the Hillary Clinton email investigation, something many Democrats surely agree with. But the more convincing explanation is that Comey had infuriated the president by having the FBI launch a formal criminal probe into the Trump campaign’s possible ties to Russia. But the Comey story buried other huge Russia-related developments that came to light yesterday and this morning that you should really be following. What follows is a quick guide to ...

3 inspiring stories of citizens supporting police

Three recent gems of underreported “good news” show that pro-cop sentiment does exist in American citizens, and you can see it plainly if you look hard enough. The anti-police sentiment which now pervades our public discourse — particularly in mainstream national press and on social media — is not an accurate reflection of how the majority of Americans feel about their law enforcement officers. I am of the opinion that the overwhelming majority of Americans appreciate and admire their police officers. However, I think they’re a silent majority. Most law-abiding citizens proceed with their daily lives without even thinking about their police. People are more prone ...

10 Major FBI Scandals on Comey's Watch

The FBI interviewed almost every terrorist who successfully struck America News just broke that President Trump is dismissing the director of the FBI, James Comey. Comey will inevitably be remembered for the controversial role he played in the 2016 presidential election, where his agency conducted surveillance of the Trump campaign as well as investigated the Clinton camp for mishandling classified materials, giving both sides arguments for how the FBI ultimately swayed the vote.  But even before the 2016 campaign, the FBI endured a number of humiliations under Comey's tenure. Most damning were revelations that the FBI was generally aware of almost every terrorist who successfully ...

Associated Press/Carolyn Kaster White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer reportedly hid behind bushes on the White House grounds for several minutes Tuesday evening, as staffers sought to respond to the frenzy of media questions over President Donald Trump’s abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey. Spicer had wanted to return to his office after conducting an interview with Fox Business, but was unable to do so without running into a throng of reporters on his way there, The Washington Post reported.  He only emerged from the bushes ...

While Beijing is preparing to hold the One Belt, One Road Forum for International Cooperation on May 14-15, Xinhua has stepped forward to bust the myth that China's New Silk Road project is essentially a Marshall Plan 2.0. China's New Silk Road Project has nothing to do with America's post-WWII Marshall Plan, China's state-run media outlet Xinhua argues. "Why do Western commentators stuck with a Cold War mindset consider the Chinese Belt and Road initiative —the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road — a modern version of the American Marshall Plan aimed at restoring Europe after Second World War?" the media outlet asked. ...

Galveston, TX — According to national mortality statistics, it’s fairly easy to get killed while operating heavy equipment or fishing. But while Jeronimo Zamora Junior of Galveston, TX enjoyed working in both fields, it was police who killed him, not his occupation. And now, the family wants answers. Zamora’s wife Carrasco called 911 because, as she told reporters, he was having some sort of panic attack. Instead of medics responding like she asked, nine Galveston County Sheriff’s deputies responded, and that’s where things took a turn for the worse. The family said when police arrived they beat, tased, punched, kicked and used their batons on Zamora, who was ...

Miami, FL — Kristy Hernandez, like any good parent, only wanted to take her son to school in a timely manner, but an average trip to Ben Sheppard Elementary School quickly turned into a nightmare — thanks to, of all people, a hero cop. Hernandez’ son, Brandon, has autism — his myriad struggles with the developmental disorder forced the young mother to leave her job as a nurse in order to care for him — and after dropping her other son at school, she would ordinarily do just that. Officer Ismael Castilla, however, didn’t have any parents’ everyday lives in mind when he pulled over a parent outside the school — blocking the exit and preventing anyone ...

The impossibility of a socialist Jesus

Jesus was “pro-socialist,” American Christians are in thrall to Ayn Rand, and the early Apostles concocted a system of “egalitarian socialism backed by fear of death.” Such are the wild claims Gregory S. Paul made Friday on this site. Socialism is a relatively modern construct, a governmental system invented roughly 1,800 years after Christ’s death, not a biblical mandate. The question, then, is whether socialism is compatible with Christianity, not whether the Bible mandates socialism. How can Mr. Paul claim Jesus was “pro-socialist?” Jesus, after all, despite many demands from His followers, pointedly refused to establish an earthly government. ...
