(*NOTE -- This story (another version o it) ran on July 3, 2017. The headline and story keep on changing. I have been thrown offline 6 times before posting it.) George S. Patton, America's greatest combat general of the Second World War, was assassinated after the conflict with the connivance of US leaders, according to a new book. Dayton Beach, FL An infuriating body camera video was released this week showing the callous disregard some police officers have for the very laws they enforce. The footage shows the above the law nature exhibited by law enforcement that would get the common citizen caged or killed. Known as blue privilege, there is an unwritten law among police officers: when they catch their fellow cop, or even their fellow cops family member, breaking the law, they are let go without consequence. Last year, dashcam video was released showing preferential treatment of an Arkansas police chief who was let off without so much as a warning after speeding to an off-duty ...

Independent journalists were not given access to cover the event depicted in this photo. North Korea claimed to have tested its first intercontinental ballistic missile in a launch Tuesday, a potential game-changing development in its push to militarily challenge Washington but a declaration that conflicts with earlier South Korean and U.S. assessments that it had an intermediate range. An evaluation of nearly 2,000 artifacts of the Mexican Museums pre-Hispanic collection has found that only 85 are allegedly of museum quality. The rest, in short, are period pieces of less significance or fakes. Or, as an expert concluded, the vast majority of the pre-Hispanic collections 1,774 artifacts failed two tests: authenticity and a high degree of historical, artistic and/or cultural values. The findings were published in a June report written for the museum by Dr. Eduardo Perez de Heredia Puente, who has worked with Méxicos National Institute of Anthropology and History and has extensive experience in the Yucatán. We Must Declare Independence Post Date: 2017-07-04 07:25:09 by Deckard

As Independence Day comes around again we should spend a few moments between barbecue and fireworks to think about the meaning of independence. The colonists who rebelled against the British Crown were, among other things, unhappy about taxation. Yet, as economist Gary North points out, the total burden of British imperial taxation was about one-to-two percent of national income. Some 241 years later, Washington claims more of our money as its own than King George could have ever imagined. What do we get in this bargain? We get a federal government larger and more oppressive than before 1776, a government that increasingly views us as the enemy.Think about NSA surveillance. As we have ...

Did you know that the penalty for speeding is death? It is something to think about as we head into the Farce of July and the sickly celebration of the freedoms we lost a long time ago. Among these, the right to not be shot to death in the streets over traffic offenses. Yes, really. A couple of years ago, the nine Judge Dredds who quite literally are the law by dint of decreeing what the law is, as opposed to what the Constitution actually says ruled (a most appropriate term) that if a speeding motorist flees from an enforcer of the law, that enforcer is empowered to execute him. (News story here.)The case at issue was Plumhoff vs. Rickard. Back in 04, a ...

A companion piece to Andrews post this morning about the diminishing appetite among Republicans for tax cuts unto death. The mystery in Bannons case is why hes pushing this knowing that Paul Ryans going to vomit when he hears about it and the conservative, tax-cutting House Republicans caucus will quickly dismiss it out of hand. Maybe thats the point. Steve Bannon is causing a stir inside the administration by pushing an idea thats anathema to most Republicans: raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans to pay for steep middle and working-class tax cuts. There, his father taught statistics and his mother became one of the first professors of Russian literature in South Korea since the onset of the Cold War. After that bad math test in elementary school, Huh says he adopted a defensive attitude toward the subject: He didnt think he was good at math, so he decided to regard it as a barren pursuit of one logically necessary statement piled atop another. As a teenager he took to poetry instead, viewing it as a realm of true creative expression. I knew I was smart, ...

A painful correction is coming and there's little that can be done to prevent it, according to former Republican congressman and libertarian firebrand Ron Paul. Speaking to CNBC last week, the former GOP presidential contender argued the economy is not as strong as Wall Street consensus believes, and the situation could turn ugly as soon as October. "If our markets are down 25 percent and gold is up 50 percent it wouldn't be a total shock to me," said Paul recently on "Futures Now." That scenario would drag the S&P 500 Index as low as 1,819, and gold as high as $1,867 an ounce from current levels. Paul, who's also a medical doctor and former U.S. ...
