Nikita Smith sued the Detroit police after they shot her three dogs on a pot raid. A judge ruled the dogs were "contraband."A federal judge ruled Wednesday that a Michigan woman has no basis to sue the Detroit Police Department (DPD) for shooting her three dogs because they were not properly licensed. U.S. District Court Judge George Caram Steeh dismissed a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by Detroit resident Nikita Smith last last year after a marijuana raid by Detroit police left her three dogs shot to death. The ruling is the first time a federal court has considered the question of whether an unlicensed pet—in violation of city or state code—is protected property ...

Should Physicians Decide Who Gets to Use Psychedelics?

Good luck controlling access to stuff that grows in cow dungIf MDMA and psilocybin move from schedule I to prescription status in the next decade--and there's good reason to think they will--obtaining the drugs will require going to a doctor and using them in a controlled setting. In the new issue of Drug Science, Policy and Law, the University of Amsterdam's James W.B. Elsey argues that while the medicalization of psychedelic drugs makes sense from a health care perspective, "the nebulous boundary between treatment and enhancement, and indeed between religious and personal discovery or spiritual uses, raises problems for the clarity of law": For example, is a person who ...

How the CIA Bamboozled The Public For 70 Years

There are the important questions which matter and should be asked of anyone who discusses “politics.” Unfortunately, most people are oblivious to seeking these deeper insights. They are deferential to what they learned in school and from their peers, from their willfully ignorant parents, and from the regime media. They are unaware of the post-WWII creation by the National Security State of synthetic “liberal” and “conservative” ideological movements which sought to rationalize the projection of power and hegemony of the American empire. The American people have been pawns on the deep state’s chessboard for seven decades. One must employ what ...

Illegal immigrant families received nearly $1.3 billion in Los Angeles County welfare money during 2015 and 2016, nearly one-quarter of the amount spent on the county’s entire needy population, according to data obtained by Fox News. The data was obtained from the county Department of Public Social Services -- which is responsible for doling out the benefits -- and gives a snapshot of the financial costs associated with sanctuary and related policies. The sanctuary county of Los Angeles is an illegal immigration epicenter, with the largest concentration of any county in the nation, according to a study from the Migration Policy Institute. The county also ...

Police departments are often forced to rehire bad officers because of union contracts

The Washington Post has an interesting story today about how police departments around the country are often forced to rehire police officers who have been fired for misbehavior thanks to union contract rules. Since there is no central database of information on police firings, the Post sent records requests to the 55 largest police departments in the country. Thirty-seven departments responded to the requests. Since 2006, those 37 departments had fired 1,881 officers. But in 451 cases, 24% of the time, the departments were later forced to rehire those same officers. From the Post: Most of the officers regained their jobs when police chiefs were overruled by arbitrators, typically lawyers ...

Anthony Scaramucci blowing a kiss after answering questions during the press briefing in the Brady Press Briefing room. Whatever else you want to say about Anthony Scaramucci, he was a character. Maybe not a good character, but a character nonetheless. And while the White House will be a better, more stable place with him gone, in a certain way, I’ll miss him. But Mooch’s brief moment strutting and fretting upon the stage provided a nice illustration of one of the aspects of Trumpism that I find most alarming. After Mooch was appointed, I had conversations with a couple pro-Trump friends who objected to my characterization of Mooch as being unprepared and ill-suited for the ...

Oops, Republicans Did It Again (The GOP predictably fails to deliver on their small government rhetoric.)

Despite a mountain of historical evidence that the Republican Party doesn't seriously stand for smaller government and individual liberty, I maintained some hope that this time would be different. With the GOP's retaking control of Congress and the White House, I actually thought Obamacare could be repealed and maybe even replaced with free market health care reforms. But though the night is still young in terms of the GOP's latest return to power, Republicans have quickly demonstrated that I should have trusted my usual pessimism, because it's clear that they're not guided by any principled support for limited government. Though a few congressional Republicans sincerely ...

Legislation Proposed To Remove Cannabis From Schedule 1 Drug List
Post Date: 2017-08-03 10:09:03 by Deckard

As of right now, cannabis is considered a schedule 1 drug in the United States. The government has it listed with other drugs such as heroin and LSD. But an ambitious Senator thinks that should change, and proposed legislation to remove cannabis from the Schedule 1 list. With no known overdose amount, cannabis should be the furthest thing from a schedule 1 drug.  Schedule 1 narcotics are described as a drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse, a drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical treatment use in the U.S., and a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or substance under medical supervision. But putting it in the same category ...

It’s Been Exactly 80 Years Since the US Declared War on Weed — and Weed Is Still Winning

The government fought cannabis — and cannabis won. This Wednesday is the eightieth anniversary of the first major action the federal government took against cannabis in the United States, and eight decades later, that same federal government has still failed to reduce Americans’ consumption of the plant. In fact, it’s on the rise. Long before the era of prohibition, druggists used cannabis as a medicine. According to Origins, a joint publication by the Ohio State University and Miami University history departments: “Cannabis, like opiates and cocaine, was freely available at drug stores in liquid form and as a refined product, hashish. ...

Cop Tickets Man in Wheelchair for Not Crossing Street Fast Enough—After an SUV Ran Over Him

Denver, CO — A police officer in downtown Denver — who apparently has no idea what an officer’s discretion means — cited a man for not crossing the street fast enough in a wheelchair. The disabled man is now fighting back. Kyle Wolfe was legally crossing 19th Street in downtown Denver last month when he says the light changed before he could make it across. Just five feet from the sidewalk, Wolfe was then run over by an SUV. Wolfe — who was injured during the accident and whose wheelchair was now totaled — was then issued a citation by a Denver police officer for disobeying a traffic signal. But Wolfe says he didn’t disobey anything, and he simply ran ...

Poll finds support for marijuana legalization

Most Americans support legalizing marijuana for recreational use and a strong majority believe it should at least be available for medical reasons, according to a new poll. The latest Harvard-Harris survey found that 49 percent of Americans polled believe marijuana should be legalized for both medical and personal use. Thirty-seven percent say it should be legalized solely for medicinal purposes, meaning that 86 percent of respondents support legalizing the plant in some form. Only 14 percent say marijuana should be illegal. The findings come as Attorney General Jeff Sessions is believed to be readying a crackdown on marijuana users. The Justice Department is expected to release a report ...

It’s called “Access Islam” and it’s being pushed as an educational religious indoctrination program for millions of children in public schools across America. Access Islam has been a growing effort, among the progressive left and the US government, to introduce the cult of Islam to millions upon millions of unsuspecting parents and school children, many of whom are not allowed to share their given Christian faith, in any form, while on public school grounds. The initial phase of the instruction (or indoctrination) involves one of the most basic tenets of Muslimism, that being the five pillars of Islam. According to the Access Islam syllabus, “students explore ...

Southern Methodist University prevented a student group from predominantly displaying a 9/11 memorial that featured almost 3,000 American flags to honor those slain, according to a Wednesday report. The school blocked its Young Americans for Freedom group from displaying the memorial on Dallas Hall Lawn because of a July 2017 policy that stressed its desire to “avoid messages that are triggering, harmful, or harassing” in the location, according to The College Fix. The college will allow the group to display the memorial at a different location, but the two groups have different opinions concerning why the request for the first location was denied. “All approved lawn ...

© Erik Hildebrandt / Reuters In his new book about the decline of US global power, historian Alfred McCoy writes, that faced with a fading superpower, incapable of paying its bills, other powers will begin to “provocatively challenge US dominion” in the seas and skies. This is happening already with what appears to be increasing regularity, although perhaps “provocative” is not the right adjective to describe it.The American military has been the chief provocateur in the seas and skies for decades, entering foreign airspace and territorial waters with impunity, expecting no retaliation. Now, powers like China, Iran and Russia are more actively challenging the ...

Forbes Says Self-Reliant Homesteaders Are “Delusional” and “Mooching” Off “Civil Society”

By Daisy Luther It’s always interesting reading when someone smug and sanctimonious writes a clueless diatribe about another group of people being smug and sanctimonious. So when I saw that an economist for Moody’s and Forbes had written an op-ed calling self-reliant homesteaders “delusional,” I knew I’d be in for some misinformed hilarity. The article, entitled, “Dear Homesteaders, Self-Reliance Is a Delusion” was published a couple of days ago on the Forbes website. You’ll be forewarned that the article won’t be deep in the first paragraph, when the author presents his claim to knowledge about self-reliant living comes from the fact that he is ...

The entire dash cam was just released showing a cop kill one unarmed teen and wound two others. They begged for their lives as he reloaded and fired again. Phenix City, AL – The entire dash cam footage was just released showing officer Allan Brown firing eleven shots into a vehicle — pausing only to reload — and fire another ten shots into the vehicle as the teens can be heard begging for their lives. While a snippet of the video was released in May, the entire video, obtained by the Ledger-Enquirer, is disturbing, to say the least. Christian Redwine, 17, was killed in the shooting and passengers Hunter Tillis and Hanna Wuenschel, two other teens, suffered non-fatal gunshot ...

Campbell, CA — A disturbing video was submitted to the Free Thought Project this week showing a Campbell police officer holding a couple at gunpoint on the side of the highway for an extended period. Feo Mas, the passenger in the vehicle, tells TFTP that he was on the way to a job interview and his girlfriend, Amanda Galan was going to work. The couple allegedly exceeded the speed limit and were pulled over by a Campbell city police officer and then held at gunpoint. According to Mas, the officer is Daniel Stromska with the Campbell police department. Stromska, who collects a $188,000 annual paycheck to pull people over, became frightened of the couple during the stop and so he held ...

Baltimore, MD — After their department gained national shame last week over a video showing an officer plant drugs to frame an innocent man while his fellow cops watched, the Baltimore police department is now under fire again. This time, the Baltimore Public Defender’s office has a second video that allegedly “appears to depict multiple officers working together to manufacture evidence.” Last week, it was announced that nearly three dozen people will have their charges dropped after the video of Officer Richard Pinheiro showed him planting drugs while Officers Hovhannes Simonyan and Jamal Brunson stood by and did nothing. Following the public release of the ...

“We are still trying to sever the contract,” said Assistant County Executive Ed Ward. Outgoing Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, who was recently indicted on federal corruption charges, has been urged to ban the artist from performing. Foskey, because the coliseum is county-owned, the concert would violate local law 3-2016, which prohibits the county from doing business with any company participating in the economic boycott of Israel. This is the first time the law is being tested. The controversy began when the Republican legislator Howard J. Kopel, who represents a large Jewish population, asked Foskey to ...

"Bottleneckers" use occupational licensing to screw competitors and innovation in the name of keeping us safe.Whether you're a doctor, an electrician, a teacher, a cab driver, a hair stylist—even a tour guide!—the government increasingly demands that you get a license before you are allowed to work in your chosen profession. In the 1950s, only about one in 20 workers needed the government's blessing to do their jobs. Today, that figure is more than one in three. Because of safety issues and concerns about accountability, many people think occupational licensing is a good idea. Yet licensing doesn't prevent fraud and incompetence (in some cases, it even ...

Yeah, I know. “Anonymous sources! FAKE NEWS!” Hopefully the president knows better than to tell anyone that the country’s most storied home, where Lincoln managed the Civil War and FDR oversaw Hitler’s downfall, is a “dump.” Remember, though, the guy’s a billionaire who used to live in a Manhattan penthouse; his standard of living is higher than most new presidents’. And if Golf Magazine is to believed, he made this comment to members at one of his clubs — i.e. other very wealthy people. When you’re that rich and talking to a bunch of millionaires, you practically have to call the White House a dump compared to what you’re used to, ...

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will soon receive a report he has been waiting for. The document, from the President’s Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, is expected to clarify the federal government’s position on marijuana — and the conflicts that exist between state and federal laws. It clear what Sessions wants to do: Over the past month, he has asked Congress for permission to prosecute medical cannabis suppliers who are acting in accordance with their state’s laws, reauthorized civil asset forfeiture (a highly controversial practice used in drug cases), and announced his desire to start a new “war on drugs.” On at least one front, however, ...
