SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Acrid, black smoke was seen pouring from a chimney at the Russian consulate in San Francisco Friday, a day after the Trump administration ordered its closure amid escalating tensions between the United States and Russia. Firefighters who arrived at the scene were turned away by consulate officials who came from inside the building. An Associated Press reporter heard people who came from inside the building tell firefighters that there was no problem and that consulate staff were burning unidentified items in a fireplace. Mindy Talamadge, a spokeswoman from the San Francisco Fire Department, said the department received a call about the smoke and sent a crew to ...

A nurse says she was assaulted and illegally arrested by a Salt Lake City police detective for following a hospital policy that does not allow blood draws from unconscious patients. Footage from University Hospital and officer body cameras shows Detective Jeff Payne and nurse Alex Wubbels in a standoff over whether the policeman should be allowed to get a blood sample from a patient who had been injured in a July 26 collision in northern Utah that left another driver dead. Wubbels says blood cannot be taken from an unconscious patient unless the patient is under arrest, unless there is a warrant allowing the draw or unless the patient consents. Seattle, WA An overzealous cop was fired in 2015 after the officer was caught falsely accusing a 69-year-old man of swinging a golf club at her patrol car. Accused by the police chief of acting with racial bias in an unnecessarily aggressive manner, Officer Cynthia Whitlatch wrongfully arrested an Air Force veteran walking down the street using a golf club as a cane. Although Whitlatch argued that her dash cam video recorded the elderly man swinging at her, the video does not support any of her allegations. Now, two years later, this cop is having her termination reversed and receiving two years of back pay. As KIRO 7 reports:The back pay is more than $105,000 in two lump payments, ...

(Photo: Supplied by Grimes family) Warren, MI Under no circumstances is it ever okay to fire a weapon, lethal or not, at an unarmed child who is controlling an ATVespecially if you are a police officer and you are also in a vehicle. However, that is exactly what happened in Warren, Mich. last weekend and now an aspiring high school freshman is dead because of it. Michigan State Police Officer Mark Bessner allegedly fired his taser from his police cruiser, striking 15-year-old Damon Grimes. Federal Judge Rules Indiana Seizing Cars With Civil Forfeiture Is Unconstitutional Post Date: 2017-09-01 09:47:31 by Deckard

In a major win for private property rights, a federal judge ruled that Indiana can no longer seize vehicles under its controversial civil forfeiture laws, which allow police to confiscate property without filing criminal charges. Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson ruled that Indiana's laws were unconstitutional because they failed to provide a timely hearing for the property owner to contest the seizure. The decision comes just days after Hoosier lawmakers held a summer study committee to discuss forfeiture reform, and less than a month after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new policy to expand police seizures nationwide. The case began last September when an officer with ...

Illinois (Republican!) Governor Signs Outrageous Sanctuary Bill Post Date: 2017-09-01 08:30:02 by IbJensen

eeing as how the majority of Illinois governors wind up in prison, itll be hard for Republican Bruce Rauner to achieve any Worst of All Time awards before his tenure in the mansion is over. But if he wanted to make a run for that dubious honor, he couldnt have done better than signing the massive sanctuary state bill that just came across his desk. The bill, which will make it essentially impossible for federal authorities to deport nearly 500,000 illegal immigrants, is nothing more than a cave-in to Chicago Democrats who are eager to fight the Trump administration every step of the way. Illinois has been welcoming of immigrants for a long time, and this bill will ...

The president admires strong men who break the law to enforce it.Three days before Donald Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio, he suggested that the former Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff was "convicted for doing his job." In reality, Arpaio was convicted for doing someone else's job by enforcing federal immigration law. When a federal judge told him to cut it out, Arpaio openly defied the order. By giving a pass to Arpaio's criminal contempt, the president reveals the hollowness of his supposed commitment to law and order. Beginning in 2007, specially trained Maricopa County deputies had authority under Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to detain people they ...
People are outraged over a Charlie Hebdo cover characterizing Hurricane Harvey victims as neo-Nazis Post Date: 2017-09-01 07:35:40 by Deckard

A French satirical magazine famous for its provocative and inflammatory cartoons was met with backlash on Thursday after it released a cover that characterized Hurricane Harvey victims as neo-Nazis. The cover for its Friday magazine showed an image of drowning limbs saluting Nazi flags, accompanied by the text: "God exists. He drowned all the neo-Nazis of Texas." Predictably, the cartoon provoked some occasionally misguided backlash on social media. The French publication has long courted and embraced controversy over its topical cartoons. After publishing images that some Muslims found offensive, the publication was the target of a terrorist attack at its ...

Under pressure from an avalanche of social media backlash, Politico has deleted a tweet containing a cartoon appearing to mock the survivors of Hurrican Harvey... Drawn by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, Matt Wuerker, the cartoon shows a person in a Confederate flag shirt, thanking god for being rescued from a flooded house bearing a secessionist sign (and a Gadsden flag). The cartoonist's irony appears to be that the federal government sent the helicopter to rescue him. As Wuerker tried to explain... This duo picked the wrong pub to knock off. Joseph McInnis III, 21, and 22-year-old Tyree McCoy robbed a Maryland bar filled with dozens of off-duty officers there for a cop retirement party, WBAL-TV reported. The armed crooks entered the take-out portion of Monaghans Pub in Woodlawn on Tuesday night and held up an employee at gunpoint before running off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said, according to the news outlet. At that time, the person who had been behind the counter knew that there was a retirement party for a police officer happening, so they went into the other portion and alerted the officers to the fact that they had just been involved in an armed ...

Why We Must Talk ... About Race --- When We Talk About Crime Post Date: 2017-08-31 13:13:04 by BorisY

Why We Must Talk About Race When We Talk About Crime August 30, 2017 To emphasize race only when a white person or a police officer is the culprit nurtures the racial resentment of unhinged young men like Fredrick Demond Scott, the accused killer in south KC. On Tuesday, Royals pitcher Danny Duffys DUI pushed the arrest of the South Kansas City trail killer off the top of the Kansas City Stars homepage. Google News also selected Duffys woes as days top story. On Wednesday, an ethics complaint filed against City Councilwoman Jolie Justus made the top of the Star (and more on that later). By any standards, the arrest of the man who terrorized south Kansas City for ...
Katrina commander: Federal response to Harvey is 'amateur hour' Post Date: 2017-08-31 12:04:51 by Willie Green

Former Joint Task Force Katrina Commander Russel Honore said Wednesday the military's rescue efforts in states affected by Hurricane Harvey resembles "amateur hour" because the federal government lacks a strategy for how to respond to large-scale natural disasters. "The American people have put too much confidence in us," Honore told CNN host Erin Burnett. "We have been too successful overseas to come out in amateur hour and incrementally deploy the force." The retired Army lieutenant general said the federal government should have "come in big" and arrived at the "edge of the storm" so that rescue efforts could begin immediately after ...
My Opinion….What I Learned from 9/11 Post Date: 2017-08-31 08:46:39 by Deckard

What is happening in Texas and surrounding areas is tragic. The fires out west are devastating not only to the people that live there but also to plant and wildlife. Make no mistake war has been declared on us and we are under attack. These attacks are planned and carried out by man not by random natural events. When we were attacked on 9/11 what did many of us do in our desperation to help? I donated to the American Red Cross as many of my family and friends did. Do you recall the aftermath, the battle to get those donations to those directly affected by that attack? I do. I decided then I would never ever donate to not only the Red Cross but any of the large organizations asking for ...

Prices Should Rise During Crises Like Hurricane Harvey (It's not price gouging) Post Date: 2017-08-31 08:24:09 by Deckard

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is upset about "price gouging" during hurricane Harvey. Some stores raised prices to $99 for a case of bottled water$5 for a gallon of gas. "These are things you can't do in Texas," he says. "There are significant penalties if you price gouge in a crisis like this." There sure are: $20,000 per "gouge"$200,000 if the "victim" is a senior citizen. Texas, a state that I thought understood capitalism, punishes people who practice it. Prices should rise during emergencies. Price changes save lives. That's because prices aren't just moneythey are information. Price changes tell ...

Even Those Who Struggle Mightily to Lose Weight Are Guilty of Thin Privilege Post Date: 2017-08-31 04:19:55 by Tooconservative

Cultural Marxism constantly expands by inventing new victim groups to alienate from the core population. Among the most recent is those who base their personal identity on being overweight, and are oppressed by those who wield thin privilege by being in better shape. But what about people who had a weight problem, but through self-discipline got the better of it? Are they to be hated for being oppressors too? Yes. In a piece from last year, Everyday Feminism explains why (bold in original): Because privilege isnt actually dependent on whether you worked for it or not. Furthermore, if you think you deserve anything because you worked for it, you are doubly bad: ...

Now, the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) reports that their attempt at using vaccines to protect children against polio has backfire infecting more children with the devastating disease rather than saving them. Vaccines make children sick, you dont say? As World Health Organization representative Elizabeth Hoff reports, As of 18 August 2017, 33 children under the age of five have been paralyzed. The detection of the circulating vaccine derived polio virus type 2 (cVDPV2) cases demonstrates that disease surveillance systems are ...
