The DOJ has responded to allegations that they want Hunter Biden witness Devon Archer arrested before tomorrow's testimony, saying in a statement: "To be clear, the Government does not request (and has never requested) that the defendant surrender before his Congressional testimony," reads a Sunday night filing. "For the avoidance of all doubt, the Government requests that any surrender date, should the Court order one, be scheduled to occur after the defendant’s Congressional testimony is completed." The problem with bubbles of received wisdom and herd-euphoria is conditions change but the risk of something untoward happening is still perceived as inconsequentially low. All bubbles pop--and not just stock market bubbles. A speculative bubble is a psychological-social phenomenon in which confidence in the stability of future gains reaches levels where doubts are banished and risks have dissipated into thin air. Biden Administration Proposes New Fuel-Economy Standards in Continuing EV Push

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed stricter fuel economy standards Friday to hasten the transition to electric vehicles. Automakers will be required to improve the average mileage of passenger cars sold between 2027 and 2032 by 2 percent a year, and the average mileage of light trucks by 4 percent a year. In order to achieve the estimated average fuel economy of 58 miles per gallon by 2032, roughly two-thirds of new cars automakers sell by then would have to be electric, the New York Times reported. The Transportation Department estimates that its proposal will avert more than 900 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Click for Full Text!

Too many who lean left today claim that the Enlightenment was the ideology of colonialism. Some academics, for instance, have claimed that it was a racist, colonial endeavour from the outset. That the Enlightenment needs to be ‘decolonised’. One piece in Harvard Magazine is even entitled ‘How the Enlightenment led to colonialism’. Do those who make this claim imagine there was no colonialism before the Enlightenment? Presumably not, but it’s important to understand how something so false could come to seem true. Lawmakers are looking for answers on the destruction of 30 million tax documents by the Internal Revenue Service in March 2021. According to a July 12, 2023, article by Ryan Grim published by The Intercept,1 U.S. House Republicans investigating the origin of COVID-19 “appear to have inadvertently released a trove of new documents … that shed light on deliberations among the scientists who drafted a key paper in February and March of 2020.” The paper in question is “The Proximal Origin of Sars-Cov-2,”2 a letter to the editor of Nature Medicine published March 17, 2020. As part of a court settlement, three liberal college professors at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) will undergo training in basic First Amendment rights by lawyers from Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). The settlement also requires that SIUE revise its rules and student handbook to prevent future instances of the gross infringement of First Amendment rights of a grad student that occurred in 2022. The school will also pay $80,000 in damages.

A civilian was wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow early Sunday morning, Russia’s TASS news agency reported, citing Russian emergency services. The Russian Defense Ministry said three drones targeted the Russian capital. It said one was shot down, and two were “suppressed by electronic warfare” capabilities and crashed into a building complex in Moscow’s business district. A super political action committee (PAC), founded by former President Trump, is expected to disclose its spending more than $40 million in legal bills. Sources told The Washington Post that the PAC, Save America, is expected to disclose the sum, $40.2 million, in a filing Monday.
