A suspended Roman Catholic priest who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine and bought a sex shop to possibly launder his drug money is asking a federal judge for leniency at his sentencing Thursday in Connecticut. Monsignor Kevin Wallin, whose lawyer says was lonely and overworked when he turned to drugs and became an addict, agreed as part of his 2013 guilty plea to a possible prison sentence of 10 to 11 years. He's now asking for four years in prison and 500 hours of community service. The 63-year-old priest has been incarcerated for the past two years. Prosecutors say he headed the meth distribution conspiracy, and they are seeking a sentence of ...

You might think you know the full story of the so-called alt-right, known for their venomous racism and virulent anti-feminism. But a new documentary is shedding light on what it says is one of the most surprising roots of the movement: Sexual frustration. Author Angela Nagle spent more than a year exploring the online origins of the current alt-right movement, which she says included communities of single men looking for advice on picking up women. She said many of these so-called pick-up artists argued that feminism was part of what made attracting women so difficult. Nagles report can be found in the new Fusion documentary, Trumpland: Kill All Normies. ...

While the Vatican vacillates over whether to welcome gays into the church, the new kids in the flock seem to have no qualms about the subject. Close to 85% of self-identified Catholics between the ages of 18 and 29 believe gays and lesbians should be accepted by society, according to a 2014 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. These younger Catholics are also supportive of legalizing same-sex marriages, with 75% throwing their weight behind the concept. The positive attitudes toward homosexuality are less likely to be found among older adults. About 57% of Catholics aged 65 and older told Pew that they believe homosexuality should be accepted.

Father Meier rejects Catholic teaching on homosexuality in favor of Pew polls. No really...Here is what Father Meier states on his website:

"They were at the sprinkler park in their bathing suits and the parade just marched by and handed out rainbow flags," she posted on Instagram. Gaffigan, a graduate of Jesuit-run Georgetown University, is often trotted out by the Catholic world as a comedian who brings Catholicism to the masses through his gift of humor. Best known for his family-friendly routines on bacon, McDonalds fries, and bowling, Gaffigan will also get laughs for his jokes about being a Catholic parent with ...

How the Catholic Priesthood Became an Unlikely Haven for Many Gay Men Post Date: 2018-01-18 08:42:13 by A K A Stone

Back in March, Pope Francis sparked a wave of headlines when he hinted at the possibility of ordaining married men as priests. Since theres no evidence that church practice will actually change, reactions to Francis comments were premature. But the speculators ignored one interesting point: Opening the priesthood to married men would probably reduce the high percentage of priests who are gay. While doing research for my book The Sex Effect, I came across many scholars who suggested that preventing priests from marrying altered the makeup of the priesthood over time, unintentionally providing a shelter for some devout gay men to hide their sexual orientation. By continuing to ...

NEWARK The word pilgrimage usually evokes visions of far-off, exotic places, but for some 100 gay and lesbian Catholics and their families, a pilgrimage to the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart here on a recent Sunday was more like a homecoming. The doors to the cathedral were opened to them, and they were welcomed personally by the leader of the Archdiocese of Newark, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin. They were seated on folding chairs at the cathedrals center, in front of the altar in the towering sanctuary, under the blue-tinted glow of stained glass. I am Joseph, your brother, Cardinal Tobin told the group, which included lesbian, gay, bisexual and ...

MILWAUKEE A Roman Catholic priest came out to his parishioners Sunday and to the rest of the world Monday in a first-person column in National Catholic Reporter. The Rev. Gregory Greiten of St. Bernadette Catholic church here said he was breaking the silence of gay men in the clergy so he could reclaim his own voice. "I am Greg. I am a Roman Catholic priest. And, yes, I am gay!" he told worshipers Sunday. He received a standing ovation. While gay men do serve as priests, rarely does priest to come out to his parishioners in this way. In his column, Greiten shares an estimate from The Changing Face of the Priesthood of 8,554 and 21,571 gay Catholic priests in the United ...

Six years later, it ranks top in Europe for gay rights, it was the first country to ban gay conversion therapy - and it's about to legalise same-sex marriage. "Malta wants to keep leading on LGBT issues and civil liberties, to serve as a model for the rest of the world," Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told the BBC. Fresh from a resounding electoral victory, Mr Muscat put forward the Marriage Equality Bill as the first law to be discussed in parliament.

This was the first time that the bishop had spoken in front of the advocacy group, which supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Catholics. "New Ways Ministry made me want to come here," the bishop told NCR during a 40-minute interview at the gathering. LOS ANGELES, California, July 12, 2016 (JosephSciambra) The real-life experiences of a Catholic mother with a gay daughter: When my oldest daughter was a teenager she had her first same sex relationship. As a Catholic mother, finding out was very upsetting. Several years afterwards seeing an ad in the Assumption Blessed Virgin parish bulletin for a Catholic ministry for parents of gay and lesbians I had hope that I had found supportive safe place of likeminded Catholic parents. The meeting was held in the parish meeting rooms of Holy Family parish in South Pasadena, led by a woman psychologist, Dr Elizabeth Taylor; there was no priest present. ...

Catholic LGBT Ministry Council The Body of Christ is all of us together. We may be gay, lesbian, straight, single, married or divorced. We may be an immigrant, documented or undocumented. We may have special needs, addictions, or mental illness. We may be, in mourning, joyful or lonely, young or old, shy, or outgoing. We may be homeless, perhaps physically or spiritually. Gods love is for everyone. The Church welcomes us all and is better when we all come to Mass as we are, as God made us. We have been reminded by Pope Francis to go out into the world to bring Gods love and welcome to everyone.
57 Years Ago, Eisenhower Predicted the Rise of the Military-Industrial Complex—He Was Right Post Date: 2018-01-18 06:56:09 by Deckard

On Jan. 17, 1961, President Dwight Eisenhower warned the world about the rise of what can now be referred to as the deep state. In his outgoing remarks from his farewell speech, Eisenhower bravely called out the shadow government who operates behind the scenes to promote war and profit from mass murder. He called this entity the military-industrial complex. Eisenhower, who was a retired five-star general, led the allies into Germany on D-Day. Being one of the few five-star generals in history, Eisenhower knew what he was saying when he warned that we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial ...
Michigan House Passes Bill to Ban “Material Support or Resources” for Warrantless Federal Surveillance Post Date: 2018-01-18 06:46:23 by Deckard

Today, the Michigan House overwhelmingly passed a bill that would ban material support or resources for warrantless federal surveillance programs. This represents an essential step states need to take at a time when the federal government seems unlikely to ever end its own spying. Rep. Martin Howrylak (R-Troy) introduced House Bill 4430 (HB4430) on March 28. The legislation would prohibit the state and its political subdivisions from assisting, participating with, or providing material support or resources, to a federal agency to enable it to collect, or to facilitate in the collection or use of a persons electronic data unless one of three conditions ...

Gov’t Revokes Off-Grid Amish Community’s Religious Rights, Forces Them to Use Electricity Post Date: 2018-01-18 05:18:21 by Deckard

An Amish community in Warren County has just lost a major battle against the state which is now requiring them to violate their religious beliefs and use electricity. Despite the Yoder family never causing harm to anyone by not using electricity, the government is forcing them to connect to the grid anyway. At the heart of the Amish religion is the rejection of individualism. The Amish anti-individualist orientation is the motive for rejecting labor-saving technologies that might make one less dependent on their community. Modern innovations like electricity might spark a competition for status goods which is in direct conflict with the Amish way of life. Therefore, they reject ...
The Republican Supreme Court Gave Us The Police State Post Date: 2018-01-18 05:09:40 by Deckard

The Republican Supreme Court Gave Us The Police State Paul Craig Roberts When the US Supreme Court consisted of civil libertarians such as William Douglas, William Brennan, and Thurgood Marshall, Republicans argued that the Supreme Court was coddling criminals and inventing rights. To prevent legislation from the bench, it was necessary, Republicans said, to elect Republican presidents who would appoint a different court that would respect the Constitution. Law and Order Conservatives were particularly upset by the Miranda decision. These conservatives were too naive to realize that often police are more interested in solving a case than they are in justice. Coerced ...

A Wichita police officer fired at her dog in a small living room occupied by her four children, ages 6 to 10. Suddenly, the already stressful evening turned into a nightmare. When the officer shot at the family dog in the same room where her four children were gathered, a bullet fragmented and ricocheted off the concrete floor beneath the carpet ...

It's fact: Neoconservatives are pleased with President Trumps foreign policy. A couple of months back, Bloombergs Eli Lake let it know he was in neoconservative nirvana: "
for Venezuela, [Donald Trump] came very close to calling for regime change. 'The United States has taken important steps to hold the regime accountable,' Trump said. 'We are prepared to take further action if the government of Venezuela persists on its path to impose authoritarian rule on the Venezuelan people.'" "For a moment," swooned Lake, "I closed my eyes and thought I was listening to a Weekly Standard editorial meeting." Onward to Venezuela! Mr. ...
