Leon Valley, TX — Over the weekend, the chief of police for the Leon Valley Police Department called a late-afternoon press conference to address police accountability activists live-streaming officers. However, as soon as the conference began, chief Joseph Salvaggio began arresting people and then detained the entire crowd. Over the past two months, Salvaggio has been the subject of multiple videos and independent media articles for his alleged corruption. According to the group National Association for Individual Rights, the controversy began on May 2, when Jesus Padilla was arrested while filming inside Leon Valley City Hall. It continued into last week. As TFTP ...

SCOTUS ruling on Janus is about to change the American political landscape [involuntary union dues] [Full Thread]

Justice Alito wrote the decision and it followed along with the expectations of those who watched the case play out before the court. Also as expected, this was a 5-4 decision, split along partisan lines. At the heart of Janus was the question of whether or not unions can forcibly extract dues from workers’ paychecks without the worker proactively volunteering to contribute. In parallel to that, the court had to determine whether or not those extracted fees, being put toward lobbying efforts, constituted involuntary political speech on the part of the worker. The ruling answers both questions definitively. You can read the full decision here but I’ve extracted a couple of the ...

NEW AMERICAN CIVIL WAR? SOME PEOPLE THINK IT’S ALREADY BEGUN

Leftist revolutionaries pushing US over the edge From celebrities calling on citizens to take to the streets, to members of Congress calling for the public harassment of White House officials, to mob justice at restaurants — is the US heading toward a new kind of Civil War? Well, some people think the seeds of a new Civil War have already been sown — and in a recent article, University of Tennessee Law Professor Glenn Harlan Reynolds argued in a USA Today column that this new war is indeed “well underway.” Reynolds was echoing similar comments from political scientist Thomas Schaller who wrote in a recent Bloomberg column that America is “at the beginning of a ...

Stephanie Wilkinson stepped down as an executive director of Main Street Lexington, an organization tasked with promoting economic viability, Fox News has learned. Elizabeth Outland Branner, the president of the organization, accepted Wilkinson’s resignation Tuesday morning, WSLS reported.“Considering the events of the past weekend, Stephanie felt it best that for the continued success of Main Street Lexington, she should step aside,” Branner ...

Surveillance cameras seem to be popping up everywhere these days. People use them to protect their homes. Police departments across the U.S. use them to spot crimes 24/7.Even the U.S. military has used surveillance cameras to keep an eye on certain bases and embassies. This can be a good way to keep us safe, but it also could lead to a loss of privacy. In fact, we told you last year that the Chinese government may have found a way to use surveillance cameras against you. (PssT! Scroll to the end of this article to listen to Kim's free podcast dealing with the Chinese government spying on you.) You would probably expect that type of shady activity from the Chinese government, but not ...

Animal Activists Attack Two Bro’s For Fishing – All Hell Breaks Loose

Clash Daily Animal rights activists harass a couple of guys fishing and it gets ugly. A couple of guys were out fishing on a bridge on a beautiful, sunny day. It’s an age-old thing that people do — hunting, fishing, out in nature, and bringing home food.   But now in 2018, we have activists that want to stop that because they’re enlightened. They know better. And they believe that animal life is the same as human life. The world is a vast place for us to explore, and so is our body. There’s just so many things in life that are left undiscovered, and eventually these mysteries will leave us hungry for something new and feed in into our endless curiosity. Some people choose to explore their mouthful palate and get kinky with their love lives (that can be equally disgusting), whilst others just find new ways to fill it with other uncommon things. Hey, at least they don’t vape laundry detergent like this guy. Here’s a list of unusual things humans eat that will leave you questioning our species. 1. Farmers in America are killing themselves in staggering numbers

"Think about trying to live today on the income you had 15 years ago." That's how agriculture expert Chris Hurt describes the plight facing U.S. farmers today. The unequal economy that's emerged over the past decade, combined with patchy access to health care in rural areas, have had a severe impact on the people growing America's food. Recent data shows just how much. Farmers are dying by suicide at a higher rate than any other occupational group, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The suicide rate in the field of farming, fishing and forestry is 84.5 per 100,000 people—more than five times that of the population as a whole. ...

The Libertarian Case FOR Serving Sarah Huckabee Sanders (and Other People You Disagree With)

Her money is green, and you can talk to her while she's chowing down. My colleague Robby Soave has already published a libertarian defense of refusing to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Over the weekend, Sanders and her party were bounced from the Red Hen, a restaurant in Virginia. The restaurant's owner said "this feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals." Well, sure, knock yourself out. The doctrinaire libertarian defense of the owner is pretty straightforward: A business owner should have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, good, bad, and ...

Rodrigo Duterte branded an ‘evil psychopath’ after calling God a ‘stupid son of a b***h’

Duterte questioned the concept of original sin in a speech on Friday, saying that if God created Adam and Eve only to let them give in to temptation, ‘This son of a b***h is then really stupid’ Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, already notorious for having cursed the pope and world leaders such as former US President Barack Obama, has been branded “evil” and a “psyschopath” after he called God “stupid” and a “son of a b***h” in Asia’s largest Catholic country. TOP 3 BEST DEBUT ROCK ALBUMS EVER [Full Thread]

Fully subjective of course, but most of us (loosely the Baby-Boomer Generation) have grown up listening to the best music this culture has been able to offer -- namely from the 50s-late 80s. We more than other generation were able to fully gauge, critique and appreciate each era and genre fully with a discriminating ear. For the sake of this exercise of opinion, the premise and challenge is, "BEST 3 DEBUT ALBUMS". The stiffest competition would actually be between the 70s and 80s. Rock Music (as a viable "Pop Music" genre died in the 20th Century. ergo, RIP, 1955-1999 Other categories worthy of discussion might be: "Best Overall Album" "Best ...

Restaurant accused of racial profiling after manager calls cops to make sure black sorority paid bill

A nationwide restaurant chain is accused of "racial profiling" after a manager called the cops on a black sorority party Tuesday to ensure they paid their bill, according to a report. The group of roughly 40 Delta Sigma Theta members — which included a doctor and a judge — had to wait nearly half an hour for their bill at a Cleveland-area Bahama Breeze restaurant, according to Cleveland.com. When one woman threatened to leave if the bill wasn’t presented, a manager called police and had them remain at the eatery until the sorority party members all settled their tabs. The woman never left, and everyone paid their share. “Police were standing there to make ...

Three Glaring Examples Proving Snopes and the AP Have No Business Being Official 'Fact Checkers'

Before the 2016 election, people freely chose their sources for information, had discussions about the veracity and accuracy of those sources if they chose to question them, and then formed opinions based on those discussions. Now, however, this choice and discussion is quickly fading away and is being replaced by a seeming ministry of truth made up of ostensibly objective media outlets like Politifact, Snopes, and the Associated Press. For years, Snopes has been debunking articles and giving them questionable ratings because of their content, but this was never a big deal because readers like ours are smart enough to question Snopes and read the facts for themselves to make up their ...

Philippine president slammed for calling God 'stupid'

The Philippine president, notorious for having cursed the pope and world leaders like former U.S. President Barack Obama, has sparked new outrage by calling God "stupid" in Asia's largest Catholic country. Opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV shot back Monday by describing President Rodrigo Duterte as "one evil man" and his remarks as "very much consistent with the deceitfulness, heartlessness and ruthlessness of his policies." Even some of Duterte's political allies were critical. A Catholic Bishop, Arturo Bastes, called the president a "madman" and urged Filipinos to pray for an end to Duterte's "blasphemous utterances and ...

Why We Can’t Drive Faster

Almost everything about cars has changed over the past 50 years – except for how fast we’re allowed to drive them.In 1970, you could legally drive 70-75 MPH on most highways – in cars with drum brakes, without ABS and not even one air bag. There was no Lane Keep Assist or Automated Emergency Braking and the headlights were pitiful things by the standards of the 1990s.But we can’t legally drive faster today in cars with more technology – and capability – than the race cars of 1970.What then is the point of all the technology?Yes, I know. Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety. The accident (and fatality) rate has declined as all this stuff got glued to ...

In Afghanistan, We Persist in Futility The simple fact is that the U.S. is not winning the war.

The simple fact is that the U.S. is not winning the war.The ceasefire in Afghanistan came to an unmistakable end Wednesday when 30 Afghan government soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack in a western province. You may not have noticed the end of the ceasefire because you may not have noticed the start of the ceasefire, just a few days earlier. You should not feel guilty. Seventeen years after the U.S. invaded, there is still not much reason to pay attention to Afghanistan, because nothing ever changes much. Yet we remain there in the obstinate hope that something will. We stay because we don't know what else to do. The simple fact is that we are not winning the war—and if you ...

Harley-Davidson Will Shift Manufacturing Overseas To Avoid Tariffs

It can do that because it's a global brand, but other businesses aren't as lucky. And workers everywhere stand to lose. Harley-Davidson, the iconic American motorcycle brand, will shift some manufacturing overseas in response to the raising of trade barriers on both sides of the Atlantic. In a filing made Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Wisconsin-based Harley-Davidson disclosed plans to move some of its manufacturing facilities from the Rust Belt to the Old World in the hopes of avoiding higher costs created by new European Union tariffs that target American-made motorcycles, along with other cultural products like whiskey and blue jeans. Those 25 percent ...

Red Hen's LGBT employees should have made sure Sarah Huckabee Sanders got served

The LGBT community understands bias and has pleaded for tolerance. How could the Red Hen's LGBT employees lobby to eject Sarah Huckabee Sanders? When Sarah Huckabee Sanders walked into the Red Hen restaurant in western Virginia, it is a safe bet she just wanted to enjoy a meal. She was in America’s heartland and wanted what everyone else did that evening at the Red Hen — a farm-to-table dinner. What Sanders received, however, is a stark reminder that half a century later, America is still asking who has a seat at the lunch counter, and the dinner table.“I would have done the same thing again,” co-owner Stephanie Wilkinson told The Washington ...
