Watch this extremely powerful film concerning a seditious coup détat by the Pentagons Joint Chiefs of Staff before it disappears down the Orwellian Memory Hole. It has never been more timely or important to see. Seven Days in May is a 1964 American political thriller motion picture about a military-political cabals planned takeover of the United States government in reaction to the presidents negotiation of a disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union. President John F. Kennedy had read the novel, Seven Days in May, shortly after its publication and believed the scenario as described could actually occur in the United States. Three Problems for Libertarian Supporters of a Basic Income ... Post Date: 2018-07-21 05:06:14 by Gatlin

Today The Atlantic published an article on the Basic Income Guarantee, with special focus on the work of Scott Santens to crowdfund a basic income on a voluntary basis. And last week, Michael Tanner of the Cato Institute published a terrific policy analysis assessing both the strengths and weaknesses of various sorts of BIG and related-policies. Ive written a few pieces defending a BIG from both a pragmatic and a more principled perspective. But its never been an issue about which Ive felt absolutely settled. The idea of implementing a BIG as a replacement for our current welfare state faces some serious difficulties. And lately especially after reading ...

t is not even impossible to imagine that the effects of an atomic war fought with greatly perfected weapons and pushed by the utmost determination will endanger the survival of man. Former US Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaulOn the worlds Grand Chessboard, the US is fighting for control and influence. And there are countries where its ambassadors are perceived more as imperial governors than simple channels of communication. At the height of the Maidan protests in Kiev in early 2014, a conversation was leaked between the US ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, and the then-Assistant Secretary of State in the Obama administration, Victoria Nuland. The conversation gained notoriety because Nuland said to Pyatt, "F**k the EU" and the recording was almost instantly available on Youtube. More shocking than Nuland's bad language, however, was what ...

But after Nucor raised its earnings guidance in mid-June, the steelmaker fell just short of Wall Street's raised profit expectations on Thursday morning. X Nucor earnings vaulted 107% to $2.07 a share, as revenue grew 25% to $6.461 billion. The ACLU Has Basically Quit Defending The Constitution Post Date: 2018-07-20 19:20:14 by Deckard

It's not surprising that the organization just attacked the Second AmendmentThe American Civil Liberties Union, an organization that once so rigidly adhered to the neutral principles in the Constitution that it famously defended the right of a neo-Nazi group to march through the Jewish-laden Chicago suburb of Skokie, has been increasingly rejiggering its positions to correspond with the Lefts hard lurch towards cafeteria constitutionalism. This week, for example, one of its senior policy analysts came up with an imaginative rationalization for limiting gun rights. The wide availability of guns and their misuse is leading to restrictions on Americans freedom, ...

Between 5,000 to 7,000 service members could march in President Donald Trump's military parade, according to a U.S. defense official familiar with parade planning documents. The figures are according to a presentation briefed to local Department of Defense leadership earlier this month on the progress of the planning, said the official who was not present for that briefing. ABC News has not viewed a copy of the plan. About 50 DoD personnel in the DC area are now supporting the planning of the parade, scheduled for Saturday, November 10. That number is expected to grow to 100 by the Labor Day holiday, and then to about 3,000 the week of the parade, the official said. Those ...
Getting conservatives and Libertarians to agree on tariffs Post Date: 2018-07-20 16:36:19 by Gatlin

One of the most irritating things about Libertarians is that they are often doctrinaire and immovable on topics. (I know, because I'm one.) Tariffs, for instance. Tariffs are uncategorically bad, as they fly in the face of the gospel doctrine of free trade. Since most of conservative bent would agree with Adam Smith on most matters economic, we also agree with the premise. But for many of us, me included, our agreement is only categorical. This is where conservatives lose most Libertarians. But one can reasonably argue tariffs beyond this point. An argument might go something like this: we agree that tariffs are bad, and we also agree that we are in favor of free trade. America ...

The American Civil Liberties Union has now joined the controversial battle about installing lockers for the homeless population outside a local church. In a letter sent to Fort Collins City Attorney Carrie Daggett on June 29, the ACLU alleges that by subjecting the Fort Collins Mennonite Fellowship, the church looking to install the 24/7 accessible lockers, to an (u)nusual and (d)ifficult approval process, the City has placed a substantial burden on the church, thus violating federal and Constitutional law. The letter came partially as a response to an email sent out by Daggett to City staff on May 31, the day a hearing on the proposed lockers was scheduled but ...

By playing into Vladimir Putin's hands, the leader of the free world actively participated in a Russian disinformation campaign ...

The problems with libertarianism. : philosophy Post Date: 2018-07-20 07:09:34 by Gatlin

I see two major problems with libertarianism. The first is that it is a moral and social framework that only considers the means when ruling on the rightness of an action. The problem is that means are not sufficient, only necessary in determining the right action; the ends are also a necessary part of the calculus. Because the ends aren't considered the actions prescribed by libertarianism may or may not be the right ones, it would depend on the ends. Any framework that leads to wrong actions is an ineffective framework. An example of this: libertarianism says the government should not force restaurants to serve healthy food because government force is an immoral means. Even if this ...

Twenty-one years ago, Bill Kristol, Paul Wolfowicz, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and a host of other neoconservatives collaborated on the Project for the New American Century. That produced, among other documents, Rebuilding Americas Defenses in which Thomas Donnelly posited the US had an opportunity after the fall of the Soviet Union to do whatever it wanted militarily, before a new power rose to challenge it. Dominating foreign policy and entrenched throughout the military and intelligence establishments ever since, these neocons have attempted to prolong that unchallenged status, including doing all they can to ensure Russia would ...

Russia is continuing to diversify state reserves away from US debt. The latest data from the US Treasury shows that Russia's share hit an 11-year minimum and totaled only $14.9 billion. The share of US sovereign debt bonds in Russia's portfolio has been reduced dramatically in recent months. Russia held $96.1 billion in US Treasuries in March before selling half its holdings in April, dropping to 22nd place among major foreign holders of American treasury securities at $48.7 billion. In 2010, Russia was among the top 10 holders of US Treasuries at $176.3 billion. With its holdings falling to $14.9 billion in May, the country is now below the $30 billion threshold for inclusion on ...
Humanity Crucified on a Cross of Iron - Eisenhower Post Date: 2018-07-19 15:55:41 by Deckard

A few people remember President Dwight Eisenhowers Farewell Address, where he warned Americans about the rise of a military-industrial complex
a warning that was stunningly accurate and almost fully ignored. What almost no one remembers was Eisenhowers speech in 1953, when he said that under the pressures of fear and war spending, humanity was hanging from a cross of iron. Bear in mind, this was said by Dwight David Eisenhower, five-star general who had been supreme allied commander. He was also the sitting president of the United States when he said it. So, there is absolutely no room for passing this off in the name of patriotism. Precisely What He Said ...
