It should be more than obvious that the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that credulous GOP Senator John Cornyn shepherded into law along with Connecticut’s Chris Murphy was nothing but a stalking horse for expanding the federal government’s regulation of firearms. Since it was signed into law, the Biden Administration has interpreted the law’s language in the widest possible ways to institute a de facto 10-day waiting period on gun sales to adults under 21 years of age, strong-arm states into enacting red flag confiscation laws, and yank federal funds from schools with hunting safety and archery programs. A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked Arkansas from enforcing a new law that would have required parental consent for minors to create new social media accounts, preventing the state from becoming the first to impose such a restriction. U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks granted a preliminary injunction that NetChoice - a tech industry trade group whose members include TikTok, Facebook parent Meta, and X, formerly known as Twitter - had requested against the law. When I was a wee liberal lad sitting at my father’s knee, I would listen to my parents wax rhapsodic over all things left-wing. And of course, like Beowulf, Thor, or Hercules, the ACLU was presented to me as one of the most important heroes in the pantheon of the Left. Of course, that was in the ’70s, when the Left still embraced some semblance of values and common sense, or at least pretended to do so. Several days ago, Beth Moore’s home church hosted an interfaith dialogue between Rev. Michael Dearman, a priest from HopePointe Anglican Church who is married to Rev. Katie Dearman, and Osman Fuad, the Iman and resident scholar at the Woodlands Islamic Center. There were several military coups in West Africa lately. Mostly in former French colonies, and in many ways “neo-colonies” of France, that do arguably more harm to the Sahel countries than the more than 300 years of French “on-the-ground” colonies, or enslavement. Though, this latter crime is not to be discarded at all. It has been an across-Africa genocide of unimaginable proportions, that, so far went unpunished.
