Roadside Breath Tests Are Just As Unreliable As Field Drug Tests
Post Date: 2019-11-21 16:02:45 by Deckard

from the magic-8-ball-says... deptWed, Nov 20th 2019 8:11pm — Tim Cushing Portable alcohol testing equipment (a.k.a. breathalyzers) have been called "magic black boxes" and "extremely questionable" by judges. And yet, they're still used almost everywhere by almost every law enforcement agency. They're shiny and sleek and have knobs and buttons and digital readouts, so they're not as immediately sketchy as the $2 drug-testing labs cops use to turn donut crumbs into methamphetamines. But they're almost as unreliable as field drug tests. Even when the equipment works right, it can still be wrong. But it so very rarely works right. Cops buy the ...

"It's Kind Of Despicable": Chicago Is Rigging Red Light Cameras To Rack Up Millions In Fines
Post Date: 2019-11-21 14:58:44 by Deckard

It appears as though someone figured out that red light cameras could rack up tons more in fines if the number of times a light changes to red increases. This has led to nefariously shorter green lights in certain areas of Chicago.  Intersections where drivers are issued hundreds of thousands of dollars in tickets have been unfairly racked up, according to ABC's investigative reporting team.  The team timed traffic lights at intersections where cameras were present and found that drivers had less time to legally get through intersections in directions where cameras where watching. In once case, yellow and green lights were only 20 seconds - combined. The ...

Opinions How aiding the Ukrainian military could push Putin into a regional war By Fiona Hill and Clifford GaddyFebruary 5, 2015 Fiona Hill is the director of the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution. Clifford Gaddy is a senior fellow in the center. They are co-authors of the book “Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin.” The United States is on a dangerous trajectory in its relations with Russia, a nuclear superpower that believes itself to be under direct threat. Several former U.S. officials and top think-tank experts released a report calling on the West to provide military support to Ukraine. (Two of them, our colleagues at the Brookings ...

I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the New York Times

Anonymous - NOVEMBER 13, 2019 3:50 PM Since Donald Trump won the 2016 election, America's paper of record has become a house organ for his resistance. Pet issues like polyamory have received too much attention, while important issues like Hunter Biden's corruption have received scant follow up. That's how the New York Times looks from the outside. From the inside, it looks much worse. Most other Timesfolk don't know us. We do not participate in the paper's Slack channels or town hall meetings. After new software was installed to gauge what the paper's staff was reading online, we have begun to print out copies off site of Bret Stephens and Ross Douthat columns. ...

A-Bombs in the Neighbor’s Basement and the NAP

Objections to the Libertarian foundational premise – the non-aggression principle – often raise  outlandish, even hysterical scenarios designed to push the envelope of people’s fear tolerance  . . . in order to get them to accept being restricted and punished for actions that have not directly or actually caused harm to others. Thus, the atom bomb in the neighbor’s basement – and the “speeder” doing 120 in a cul-de-sac. Both scenarios are possibilities, of course. It would be silly to make the argument that, in the absence of laws prohibiting it, someone might decide to build himself an A bomb or drive 120 in a cul-de-sac. But here’s the ...

House committee approves landmark bill legalizing marijuana at the federal level

The House Judiciary Committee approved a bill that legalizes marijuana on the federal level, removing it from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act. Some Republican members expressed concerns that the bill went too far and that it was unlikely to be taken up in the GOP-controlled Senate. he legislation, which passed 24 to 10, has a high chance of approval in the full House where Democrats control the chamber with 234 seats. It’s likely to face a tougher battle in the Republican-controlled Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opposes marijuana legalization. The legislation allows states to enact their own policies and gives them incentives to clear criminal records of ...

Dallas Transit Agency Pays $345,000 to Settle Lawsuit by Photographer Arrested for Taking Pictures

(Avi Adelman) Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will pay freelance photographer Avi Adelman $345,000 to settle the lawsuit he filed after he was illegally arrested in 2016 for taking pictures at a train station. The settlement follows a federal appeals court's September 20 ruling rejecting a qualified immunity claim by Stephanie Branch, the DART police officer who arrested Adelman for trespassing and then repeatedly lied about the incident.Adelman had been photographing paramedics as they treated a man who had overdosed on a synthetic marijuana substitute. He spent a day in jail, but the charge against him was dropped a week later. An internal investigation found that Branch had ...

Cop With 7 At-Fault Crashes, Playing Grand Theft Auto Before Smashing Into Woman, Nearly Killing Her

Gwinnett County, GA — Earlier this year, Sarah Wood was stuck in rush hour traffic on I-85, driving just 6 mph, when her life would be forever changed. One moment, she is idling down the interstate in traffic and the next, more than a month later, she would wake up in the hospital, having been in a coma. She was struck by a cop who was not paying attention and who was driving 70 mph when he smashed his car into hers. He wasn’t paying attention because he was distracted by Grand Theft Auto playing in his cruiser. Seriously. This would be 8th at-fault crash in which Gwinnett County police Officer Todd Ramsey would be involved. But his negligence back on April 1 would be his worst. ...

Cops Taser Man on the Way to a Job Interview for Improperly Crossing the Street

Gwinnett County, GA — Walking across the street in a manner not fit for the police state can often end in serious injury or death — not necessarily because of a car running you over either. The enforcement of jaywalking laws in this country have gone to the extreme and a new video out of Georgia shows just how bad it can get. A man was tasered three times by cops for walking across the street the wrong way. Last March, John Efford wasn’t robbing a store, trafficking children, or stealing cars — he was on his way to a job interview. Nevertheless, he was stopped by two cops who repeatedly deployed their tasers on him. The police officers claimed to be justified in the ...

Ukrainian Indictment Claims $7.4 Billion Obama-Linked Laundering, Puts Biden Group Take At $16.5 Million

An indictment drawn up by Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General against Burisma owner Nikolai Zlochevsky claims that Hunter Biden and his partners received $16.5 million for their ‘services’ – according to Ukrainian MP Alexander Dubinsky of the ruling Servant of the People Party. Dubinsky made the claim in a Wednesday press conference, citing materials from an investigation into Zlochevsky and Burisma.  “Zlochevsky was charged with this new accusation by the Office of the Prosecutor General but the press ignored it,” said the MP. “It was issued on November 14.” “The son of Vice-President Joe Biden was receiving payment for his ...

As Americans Are Distracted By Impeachment, Congress Reauthorizes The Patriot Act

House Democrats have slipped an unqualified renewal of the draconian PATRIOT Act into an emergency funding bill – voting near-unanimously for sweeping surveillance carte blanche that was the basis for the notorious NSA program. A three-month reauthorization of the notorious PATRIOT Act was shoehorned into a last-minute continuing resolution (CR) funding the US government, bundling measures needed to avert yet another government shutdown with a continuation of the wildly-intrusive surveillance powers passed after the 9/11 terror attacks. Democrats voted almost unanimously for it, granting the far-reaching surveillance capabilities to the very same president they’re trying to ...

What Is Cancel Culture and What Does It Have to Do with the SPLC?

Former President Barack Obama recently made waves online when he critiqued “woke” activism, a part of what has become known as “cancel culture.” Obama spoke to a crowd gathered at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago and said that he sees college students and other young people thinking they can only bring about change by being “as judgmental as possible about other people…” “That’s not activism,” Obama said. “That’s not bringing about change. If all you’re doing is casting stones, you’re probably not going to get that far. That’s easy to do.” Cancel culture is about taking the easy route of shutting down ...

Rep. Adam Schiff To Ukraine: Don’t Investigate Bidens

House Intel Chair Adam Schiff appears to be threatening Ukraine over its ongoing corruption probe of the Biden family. During the impeachment hearings on Tuesday, Schiff claimed Ukraine’s investigations into the Bidens could influence U.S. politics. He suggested Ukraine should leave the Bidens alone. “The real message to Ukraine — our U.S. policy message is: don’t engage in political investigations,” stated Schiff. Republican lawmakers have suggested Democrats, rather than President Trump, have tried to pressure the foreign government. “If the Democrats and the media are suddenly so deeply concerned about bribery, you would think they would take some ...

Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified on Tuesday that he bypassed his chain of command and went directly to the National Security Council’s legal counsel to raise his concerns about President Donald Trump’s July phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The implication appears to be that Vindman had an agenda, which was only strengthened by his claim in his opening statement that Trump demanded Zelensky open an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, though according to the White House’s partial transcript, the commander in chief did no such thing. Republican Rep. Brad Wenstrup of Ohio — an Army Reserve officer and ...

November 19, 2019 By Tim Binnall An 1898 photo of some children working at a gold mine in Canada's Yukon territory has gone viral due to one of the youngster's stunning resemblance to teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg. The spooky image popped up online over the weekend after someone discovered it in the University of Washington archives. The photo quickly went viral with many imaginative individuals suggesting that it was proof that Thunberg was a time traveler, while others argued that it was merely a clever fake. Regarding the latter theory, it would appear that the image is a genuine photograph and not the product of Photoshop. According to the University ...

The legislation, introduced by Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and sponsored by Rep. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as S.2227, enjoys bipartisan support and would lead to the removal of cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act, ending prohibition on a federal level and allowing states to move ...

From the website here is what the tickets ran. This event and the photos and video below were taken at MOCA’s Nov. 12, 2011 event. After the public cheap seats fundraising event for plebs among the dilettante cognoscenti, there was a private dinner for heavyweight reprobates and discordians to attend. That would be the $25,000 to $100,000 crowd. Regular readers should quickly recognize the symbology that has emerged since John Podesta’s email Wikileak in 2016. By MassPrivateIIn the never-ending War on Terror, Big Brother has proven time and again that it has no shame when it comes to creating suspicion or the illusion of terror where there is none. The University of Texas at Austin’s (UT) Jester Center for Housing and Dining has decided that the best way to celebrate their 50th anniversary is to encourage students and faculty to report people to the police. Our Vision is to create transformative living and learning environments where students feel safe, involved and inspired to change the world. And what better way to create a “transformative living environment” than to reward students and faculty with free pizzas for sending ...

(TMU) — Biographer for the Royal Family, Lady Colin Campbell, recently appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain where she defended Prince Andrew against claims of pedophilia. In her defense of the disgraced prince, Campbell pointed to the “prostitution” charge that Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of in 2008, and attempted to downplay the fact that the girls were underage by suggesting that he was simply hiring sex workers. “You all seem to have forgotten that Jeffrey Epstein, the offense for which he was charged and for which he was imprisoned, was for soliciting prostitution from minors. That is not the same thing as pedophilia,” Campbell told a shocked panel ...

Former White House Physician on Trump’s Health: There’s a ‘Neurological Issue’ Not Being Addressed

Dr. David Scheiner expressed concern over President Donald Trump’s health, and skepticism surrounding his unannounced visit to Walter Reade Hospital last weekend. The White House has described the visit as routine, which Scheiner dismissed as “absolute balderdash” during a Monday evening interview with Outfront anchor Erin Burnett. Scheiner has some expertise in White House medical protocol as the Chicago-based medical doctor served as primary physician to President Barack Obama during his two terms. While Scheiner didn’t believe that Trump’s weekend hospital “check-up” was an “emergency,” he did suggest that it was an urgent matter. ...
