The Antiracist Research Center at Boston University has laid off up to 20 of its staff members following accusations from current and former employees that the center was poorly managed and exploitative. The center's director, Ibram X. Kendi, a critical race theorist who rose to prominence during the anti-police race riots of 2020, has been accused by staff members of being power hungry and mistreating employees, according to Boston Globe. Two months after the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that the “Pretrial Fairness Act,” contained within the larger “SAFE-T Act,” was constitutional, the elimination of cash bail is set to become the law of the land in the state. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit issued a unanimous three- judge decision on September 1, 2023, holding that the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) overstepped its statutory authority by attempting to ban using ivermectin to treat COVID-19. In Apter v. Department of Health and Human Services, court concluded, “FDA is not a physician. It has authority to inform, announce, and apprise—but not to endorse, denounce, or advise.” Writing for the three-judge panel, Circuit Judge Don R.
