Robert Raschio, presiding judge for Oregons 24th Judicial District, heard arguments on both sides of the issue on Tuesday and then extended the ban on implementation of Measure 114, while lambasting the states defense. At issue is just the part of the law which was narrowly passed in November that restricts the sale, ownership, or possession of magazines to 10 rounds or fewer. Raschio has put in place a separate ban on implementing the rest of Measure 114. Click for Full Text!

If you hadnt heard that far-Left Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D- N.Y.) had produced and starred in a new film about her fight for a Green New Deal, youre not alone. Released in 120 theaters last Friday, AOCs new film, To the End, took in less than $10,000 in its opening weekend a paltry $80 per theater. The schoolgirl congresswoman first came to relevance in 2018 when she won a House seat in the Democratic stronghold known as New Yorks 14th District by ousting long-term Democrat Joe Crowley in a primary upset. AOC quickly made climate change her signature issue, having famously quipped, The world is gonna end in 12 years if we ...
Politics Is Getting in the Way of What Makes Cities Great Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:50:53 by Charles_Byrd

Progressives loves cities, yet refuse to address the degree to which their policies have made urban life a bigger chore than needed. Conservatives depict cities as dystopian hellholes. They delight in highlighting the crime problems, poorly functional school systems, homeless encampments, and other urban problems that seem unsolvable. The message from the former: We should all live in densely packed urban areas, where we can stroll to cafes and stores and take the bus to work, but we can't (or won't) make the streets safer, the schools better or the transit systems less miserable. The message from the latter: Stay away from cities and hole up in placid but uninteresting suburbs. ...
Elizabeth Warren's Crypto Bill Targets Financial Freedom, Not Fraud Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:48:18 by Charles_Byrd

Beyond politically connected scammers and frothy valuations, the attractiveness of cryptocurrencies lies in their potential for doing what cash does, but across distances. When governments inflate money, people turn to other stores of value, including crypto. When politicians and their financial-sector accomplices block transactions of which they disapprove, people look for alternative means of doing deals without permission, crypto among them. So, when officials talk of stripping privacy and autonomy from cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, you know they would do the same to cash if they could. "Rogue nations, oligarchs, drug lords, and human traffickers are using digital assets to ...

For the first time in over 30 years, and in a tightly-controlled presentation, the United States unveiled a new strategic bomber on Friday. The nuclear-capable B-21 Raider is expected to enter service in 2027 and is seen as a major part of the States response to military buildup by China. The estimated cost was also revealed: The planes manufacturer, Northrop Grumman, can expect $700m per aircraft. Many other companies will also profit from the project, with the arms production company stating that 400 suppliers are involved in the project. One of these is Raytheon Technologies whose subsidiary Pratt & Whitney will be manufacturing the engines for the new stealth jet. ...
At Least The Russians Told Us They Have Doomsday Machine Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:22:51 by Charles_Byrd

In the 1960s cold war dark comedy, Dr. Strangelove, a rogue general initiates a bombing squads raid of Russia in an attempt to start a nuclear war. Obsessed with bodily fluids, this general, barricades himself in at a military base coveting his launch codes. Meanwhile diplomatic efforts are being conducted to avoid all out nuclear war. In an underground base, generals and the president find out that the Russians have a doomsday machine that would respond to a preemptive nuclear strike by the United States. Dr. Strangelove, the aged NAZI scientist working for the Americans, points out the stupidity of having a doomsday machine and not telling anybody. The Russian diplomat mentions that ...

Biden Regime Secretary of State Blinken has blocked negotiations between Russia and Ukraine by declaring it is US policy to drive Russia out of the reincorporated territories, including Crimea. Bidens announcement that the US will use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear threats, and the knowledge that US nuclear weapons are deployed close to Russia are forcing Putin to abandon his no first use of nuclear weapons pledge. Bill of Rights: The Ignored History of Why it Exists Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:16:13 by Charles_Byrd

Today is Bill of Rights Day commemorating ratification on Dec. 15, 1791. But what the government-run schools and supporters of the monster state teach about the Bill of Rights has almost nothing to do with the foundational principles which motivated the people who supported and demanded it. Netanyahu Says US Must ‘Reaffirm’ Alliance With Saudi Arabia Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:13:48 by Charles_Byrd

Israels incoming prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said Thursday that the US must reaffirm its alliance with Saudi Arabia and that he will seek normalization with Riyadh once in office. I think that the alliance, the traditional (US) alliance with Saudi Arabia and other countries, has to be reaffirmed. There should not be periodic swings, or even wild swings in this relationship, because I think that the alliance between Americas allies and with America is the anchor of stability in our region, Netanyahu told Al-Arabiya English. You've Got to Be Kidding: Nussbaum Demands Animals Stop Eating Each Other Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:11:50 by Charles_Byrd

Sometimes you encounter a proposal that is so daft that you think to yourself, The author cant be serious! In todays column, Id like to discuss an example of this sort that comes from one of the worlds most eminent moral philosophers, Martha C. Nussbaum. In her article, A Peopled Wilderness, appearing in the New York Review of Books, December 8, 2022, Nussbaum suggests that we need to think seriously about curbing predation in nature. It disturbs her that animals eat other animals: this is not how things ought to be. We must be careful in what we try to do to correct this morally bad state of affairs, since through lack of knowledge, we may ...
FBI Should Have 14 Days, Not 66 Years, to Produce Seth Rich Information: Lawyer Post Date: 2022-12-16 16:09:30 by Charles_Byrd

The FBI should only have 14 days, not 66 years, to produce information from Seth Richs laptop computer, a lawyer argued in a new court filing. After a U.S. judge ordered the FBI to produce the information, the bureau said that it should not be required to hand it over because of exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). And if the bureau still had to produce the information, government lawyers said it should have 66 years because it needs to review the information and redact certain information. Click for Full Text!
Austerity: A Real Solution to Help Heal the U.S. Economy Post Date: 2022-12-15 20:36:04 by Charles_Byrd

Austerity works. We know what it is and dont like it, but it works. It usually means cutting your consumption and spending, paying down your debts, pawning assets, and working more hours to restore your economic situation. You might invoke austerity because you lost your job, your house burned down, or you have an unexpected child on the way. You might take similar actions if the economy was in crisis. Its essentially the same thing as cutting expenses to save for a down payment on a house, paying for a childs education, or accumulating a fund for retirement. Click for Full Text!

Teaching the Big Words of the Faith Post Date: 2022-12-15 20:32:53 by Charles_Byrd

When we teach children, we tend to simplify things. When we teach children about God, we want them to understand the truths we are communicating on their level in a way that is comforting, helpful, and life-giving for them. Today, I would like to propose that we use the big words of our faith when we teach our kids, preteens, and teenagers, whether that be in the home, in the church, or in a school setting. When it comes to terms like justification, sanctification, absolution, incarnation, Law, Gospel, atonement, resurrection, ascension, and so on, which ones have you taken the time to use and define with the young people in your life? Math is a great example of an area where we ...
Bluffing their way to an Article V Convention, Part 2: The best PR money can buy Post Date: 2022-12-15 20:27:38 by Charles_Byrd

In Part 1, we saw that ever since 1907, 2/3 or more of the States have had at least one active application on record asking Congress to call a convention under Article V. And if Congress is hoodwinked into validating all non- rescinded applications by passing H.R.8419 or its 2023 counterpart,[1] Congress will likely trigger the first constitutional convention since 1787. So why wasnt Congress deceived into calling a convention 50 or 100 years ago? Perhaps its because the PR industry hadnt come of age yet! To justify a call, Congress, whose priority is getting re-elected, would require considerable constituent pressure Click for Full Text!

Government Must OUTLAW Religious Conversions, Says Writer Post Date: 2022-12-15 20:22:52 by Charles_Byrd

Government must see to it that conversions, whether open or on the sly, must be stopped, opines writer Sumit Paul. Mankind has already had enough of God and religion. Give it breathing space. Paul is passionate about this position, too, so much so that he devotes a goodly amount of picturesque prose to trying to convert us to his position. Click for Full Text!

Even when bad cops face consequences, police union rules often insulate them from punishmenteven for "vile and disgusting" behavior. In 2016, officers with the San Antonio Police Department cleared a homeless encampment from a private parking lot. Matthew Luckhurst, a bike patrol officer involved in the effort, was trying to get the residents to clean up on their way out when he allegedly offered a homeless man a shit sandwichliterally, dog feces on bread. For the past 77 years, the US has defended the so-called free world. Not all by itself, but almost so for much of the time. Even today, Washington does more than Europe to defend Europe. None of the continents traditionally great powers, Britain, France, and Germany, fields even 300 tanks. The US deploys more ships to the Pacific than Japan possesses to defend itself. Despite having 50 times the economic strength and twice the population of the North, South Koreas army is smaller and possesses fewer tanks. Worse, Washington threatens to use nuclear weapons in any conflict involving these nations and risk incineration of the American homeland. Click for Full Text!

Germany on Wednesday signed a contract with the US to purchase dozens of Lockheed Martin-made F-35 fighter jets, which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads that the US keeps in Germany. There are about 20 US B-61 nuclear gravity bombs stored in Germany under NATOs nuclear sharing program. While Germany has no nuclear weapons of its own, it maintains a fleet of aging Tornado bombers capable of dropping them, which the F-35s will replace. Click for Full Text!
Decentralization, Freedom, and Peace Are the Pillars of a Free Society Post Date: 2022-12-15 20:12:07 by Charles_Byrd

Classical liberal tradition defends the right of secession on many grounds. One of the main reasons is that the territorial dispersion of power limits political domination much more than formal constitutions do. Small states cannot easily adopt protectionist policies and their political classes are closely controlled by the citizens; in addition, redistribution is more difficult and rulers have more direct information about their own reality. Besides that, nationalism is a nonsense in a tiny jurisdiction of only 30,000 people (as in the case of Liechtenstein). Therefore, if we want to protect our fundamental rights, we need competing small states and the best way to enlarge the market is to ...
