The mayor of El Paso called Wednesday for the United Nations to get involved with the growing crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border, claiming the problem was too big for the United States to handle. We need to work together, regardless of party, because this is a U.S. United States problem, Democratic Mayor Oscar Leeser told CNN This Morning co- host Don Lemon. We all need to work together. Its not an El Paso problem, its a lot bigger than El Paso, I honestly believe its bigger than the United States. We need to work with the UN, work with other countries to be able to come up with a program that is humanitarian for everyone. ...

A New FBI Building Would Cost Billions. Do We Even Need One? Post Date: 2022-12-21 19:08:22 by Charles_Byrd

Early Tuesday morning, the Senate finally released its omnibus spending bill, which would fund the government through September of next year. The deadline to pass the bill actually passed on Friday, requiring a one-week stopgap bill to avoid a government shutdown. Part of the delay stemmed from disagreements over where to build a new location for the FBI's headquarters. But at a time of record debt and continuing trillion-dollar deficits, it's worth asking whether the bureau even needs a new building. Click for Full Text!
The January 6 Committee's Suggested Charges Against Trump May Be Hard To Prove Post Date: 2022-12-21 19:06:24 by Charles_Byrd

The select congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol on Monday recommended that the Justice Department consider half a dozen criminal charges against Donald Trump based on his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. While those criminal referrals are not binding, they suggest some of the challenges that prosecutors would face if they decided there is enough evidence to charge the former president. Four of the potential crimes include mens rea requirements that may be difficult to satisfy, especially since the prosecution would have to prove those elements beyond a reasonable doubt. The other two possibilities involve ...

In Maricopa County, Arizona, 63 percent of black children are investigated by the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) by the time they turn 18, according to a joint report published this month by ProPublica and NBC News. For white children, the number is only 33 percent. One black mother was investigated by the Arizona DCS after she sought medical care when her daughter fell off a couch. Another woman had her children taken for over a year after she left them home alone for 20 minutes. Another was investigated after facing an unfounded accusation that she left her autistic child in the car while she went inside a store. Click for Full Text!

Warning shot: House conservatives threaten revenge if GOP senators vote for Pelosi spending Post Date: 2022-12-20 16:45:44 by Charles_Byrd

A group of House conservatives is promising to oppose and stymie the legislative priorities of any Republican senator who votes in favor of the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill this week. The warning shot, delivered via a letter from 13 conservatives Monday night, comes amid rising tensions between Republicans in the House and Senate. In just two weeks, Republicans will control the U.S. House of Representatives, yet passage of the spending bill would severely curtail their efforts to conduct meaningful oversight and hold the Biden administration accountable. Four female athletes, led by Selina Soule a Connecticut track and field athlete who was denied the opportunity to compete in the New England Interscholastic Track and Field Championships because two biological males identifying as females beat her out for the top spots brought the suit. The Christmas story of a baby born in a manger is a familiar one. The Roman Empire, a police state in its own right, had ordered that a census be conducted. Joseph and his pregnant wife Mary traveled to the little town of Bethlehem so that they could be counted. There being no room for the couple at any of the inns, they stayed in a stable (a barn), where Mary gave birth to a baby boy, Jesus. Warned that the government planned to kill the baby, Jesus family fled with him to Egypt until it was safe to return to their native land. Click for Full Text!
