New health ministry guidelines in Japan will consider as abuse any acts by members of religious groups who menace or coerce their children to engage in religious activities, or that obstruct a child’s career path using religious doctrine. Based on unnamed sources quoted by Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun, the Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry is working on its first draft of guidelines for local governments to tackle cases of child abuse linked to religious groups such as the Unification Church, officially known as the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification. The former president of Colorado State University collected a payout of almost $1.6 million. The university won’t say why she left before the end of her planned tenure. Joyce McConnell’s annual salary was $550,000 per year. In the June separation agreement between McConnell and CSU Board of Governors, she was paid $1,572,725 as a result of ending her contract early. Americans Against Antisemitism (AAA) released a report revealing that 97% of hate crimes against Jews in New York between 2018 and 2022 were committed by other minority groups. AAA’s report was first posted on AAA founder Dov Hikind’s Twitter account Wednesday. The report documented 194 cases of assault against Jews from April 2018 to August 2022, and, in 99 of those assaults, official reports included the ethnicity of the perpetrator revealing 97% were committed by other minorities. Westminster College, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, will offer a course titled “Dead White Women” during the spring 2023 semester which will analyze society’s “(unhealthy) obsession with the death of white women,” according to the course catalog. The four-credit course is offered in both the film studies and gender studies departments, according to the catalog. The Securities Commission of The Bahamas announced late Thursday that it had seized $3.5 billion worth of crypto assets from bankrupt crypto exchange FTX, formerly owned and headed by disgraced billionaire and Democratic mega-donor Sam Bankman-Fried.
