The almost cliché example of this is the Spanish Conquistadors rapid conquest of central American civilization. The Conquistadors were greeting like gods as they emerged from the sea. The FBI Washington Field Office announced that it was increasing its reward for information regarding the Capitol Hill pipe bomber days before the second anniversary of Jan. 6. Two pipe bombs were found at the Republican and Democratic National Committees leading the FBI to conduct an investigation and offer an initial reward of $100,000. The engine supplier for Lockheed Martin’s highly-sought F-35 fighter jet has suspended deliveries while an investigation into a December accident proceeds, Defense News reported Wednesday, stalling hundreds of planned jet deliveries. The Pentagon’s F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO), the Defense Contract Management Agency and engine maker Pratt & Whitney came to a “mutual agreement” to block new engine deliveries on Dec. 27, the JPO told Defense News. The JPO grounded a small group of newer jets after an F-35B variety crashed on a Texas runway earlier that month and is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. On Dec. 21, a U.S. military plane embroiled in a showdown with Chinese aircraft in the disputed South China Sea breached international law and undermined the safety of Chinese pilots, China’s Defense Ministry spokesman claimed. However, the U.S. military asserted that a Chinese Navy J-11 fighter jet came within 10 feet of a U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft, prompting it to take circumventing measures to prevent a collision, and a U.S. military spokesman said that the Chinese jet came within 20 feet from the nose of the plane. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a bill expanding government control over the nation's news media. The law gives the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting authority to regulate online and print media, including the power to temporarily block online media outlets without a court order. It also gives the agency the power to ask social media platforms and search engines to remove content that violates the law. The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine warned that the bill would erode important freedoms that "distinguish the social system of Ukraine from the regime of dictatorial Russia." Akeem Terrell had been behaving peculiarly at a party on New Year's Day in 2021, and did not cooperate with Phoenix, Arizona, police trying to arrest him after they ordered him to leave. He died in custody later that day. Now surviving family members of Terrell's are suing Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone, the county itself, the city of Phoenix, and various officers involved in causing Terrell's death. The suit was filed last week in federal court in Arizona, suing over various alleged constitutional rights violations, and seeking compensatory and punitive damages and court costs. Twitter appears to have been breached yet again. In the latest instance, a hacker calling himself StayMad has reportedly leaked the personal data of over 200 million users, including high profile accounts such as Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Donald Trump Jr., SpaceX, CBS Media, NBA, WHO, and more. However, further investigation suggests that the latest data hack could be the same as the one seen in December 2022, where a hacker calling himself Ryushi leaked the data of 400 million accounts on the dark Web. During the course of an FBI written response to a Freedom of Information Act request asking about the trade names and suppliers of surveillance software the FBI had purchased, and in a legal brief submitted to a federal judge, the government has yet again quietly acknowledged its antipathy to constitutional provisions that all of its employees have sworn to uphold. The Biden administration just gave the okay for the U.S. Postal Service to ignore state abortion bans and send abortion drugs through the mail in all 50 states. The Hill reports the U.S. Department of Justice issued the legal opinion to the U.S. Postal Service and independent mail services Tuesday in response to several recent Biden administration decisions that allow abortion drugs to be sold through the mail or at a pharmacy.
