A federal judge ruled Tuesday to block a New Jersey law that allows the states attorney general to take legal action against gun manufacturers. U.S. District Judge Zahid Nisar Quraishi, an appointee of President Joe Biden, granted a preliminary injunction against New Jerseys public nuisance law Tuesday, saying is in direct conflict with the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), according to the opinion in the United States District Court of New Jersey Trenton Vicinage. The public nuisance law allows the attorney general to seek legal action against gun manufacturers if it is deemed that they endangered public safety through sales ...

Can the Military-Industrial Complex Be Tamed? Post Date: 2023-02-01 16:16:30 by Charles_Byrd

My name is Bill Astore and Im a card-carrying member of the military- industrial complex (MIC). Sure, I hung up my military uniform for the last time in 2005. Since 2007, Ive been writing articles for TomDispatch focused largely on critiquing that same MIC and Americas permanent war economy. Ive written against this countrys wasteful and unwise wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, its costly and disastrous weapons systems, and its undemocratic embrace of warriors and militarism. Nevertheless, I remain a lieutenant colonel, if a retired one. I still have my military ID card, if only to get on bases, and I still tend to say we when I talk about my fellow ...

NATO Official Says Alliance Is ‘Ready’ for Direct Confrontation With Russia Post Date: 2023-02-01 16:04:53 by Charles_Byrd

Adm. Rob Bauer, the head of NATOs Military Committee, said that NATO is ready for a direct confrontation with Russia, citing the alliances recent efforts to boost its presence in Eastern Europe. Last year, NATO placed new battle groups in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia on top of the ones that have been deployed in Poland and the Baltic states for years. The US also deployed troops on its own, sending tens of thousands more to Europe, including many that are stationed near the Ukrainian border in Poland and Romania. Click for Full Text!
"Stakeholder Capitalism" Is an Incoherent Term Post Date: 2023-02-01 16:03:03 by Charles_Byrd

At the annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos this year, Klaus Schwab gave a televised interview where he said that stakeholder capitalism will become the ideal economic system for efficiently allocating resources in order to master ze future. However, the problem with Schwabs stakeholder capitalism is that it is inconsistent with its stated ends. Furthermore, Schwabs ideas are not new. Most of them are variations of old ideas like social responsibility and fixing market failures. In an article from March 2021, Schwab argues there are three types of capitalism: shareholder, stakeholder, and state. However, in formal comparative economics, neither shareholder ...
Why the American Medical System Is Broken Post Date: 2023-02-01 15:59:06 by Charles_Byrd

Anyone whos recently visited a hospital in America knows the system is broken. Prices are outrageous, answers are slim, and insurance companies are insufferable. Each time I think about how the medical system in America is terrible, one of the only small comforts is that Canadas healthcare situation is worse. Still, we didnt arrive here without a string of bad decisions leading to an overpriced, unhelpful, and increasingly woke medical system. So how did we get here? Click for Full Text!
Japan Faces Demographic Disaster Post Date: 2023-02-01 15:56:54 by Charles_Byrd

Japans Prime Minister has warned that his country will fall over an economic and social cliff unless it reverses its population decline. Our country is on the brink of being unable to maintain the functions of society, said Fumio Kishida at the beginning of this years Diet session. Mr Kishidas apocalyptic statement is by no means news. Japans population has been shrinking for years. Rural towns are being abandoned. The number of people in nursing homes is constantly rising. Schools are closing because there are no children to fill the classrooms. Click for Full Text!
When a Classical Liberal Confronted Nazi Terror Post Date: 2023-01-31 19:01:08 by Charles_Byrd

Ninety years ago, Adolf Hitler was sworn into office as Chancellor of Germany. January 30, 1933, would be henceforth regarded by Germanys National Socialists as the Machtergreifung: the day that the Nazis seized power and began consigning the Weimar Republic to its grave. Hitler never made any secret of his intention to strike against those he saw as his enemies once his grip on power had been consolidated. It was thus at considerable personal risk that a young German economics professor delivered a public lecture in Frankfurt am Main, just eight days after Hitler took office, in which he made clear his opposition to the new government. Davos and the Holy Grail of Equity Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:58:37 by Charles_Byrd

Participants in the World Economic Forum (WEF) seem to have mistaken Davos for Camelot. After days of talking and revelry, they have sallied forth on their quest for the Holy Grail of global equity and carbon neutrality. Along the way, they have vowed to slay the dragons of disinformation. All this will be celebrated by approved minstrels. If that sounds like a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, youre partially right. Like Monty Pythons knights, they try to delude us as well as themselves. King Arthur mimes riding a horse while his servant bangs coconut shells; Al Gore jets to Switzerland while prosing about the dangers of climate change. Click for Full Text!

If you say you oppose Russia because youre an anti-imperialist but you dont oppose the US empire for its role in starting and perpetuating this war, then youre a liar. You dont oppose Russia because youre an anti- imperialist, you oppose Russia because youre an imperialist. The only people who say Putin can end this war at any time by withdrawing are those who deny the US empires aggressions which led to this conflict, which is just a nonsense garbage position based on lies. They dont actually want peace, they just want victory for the empire. The real unbiased position which supports peace is wanting both Russia and the western ...

The latest Nielsen ratings show that CNNs viewership last week fell to its lowest level since 2014. And the demographic most critical to sponsors has all but disappeared. For the week ending January 22, CNN averaged just 444,000 viewers during prime viewing time, falling below 450,000 for the first time in nine years. In the critical advertising demographic, age 25-54, the network had just 93,000 viewers. Click for Full Text!
HALT THIS CRAZY RUSH TO ALL-OUT WAR Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:54:18 by Charles_Byrd

The finest modern military thinker, Maj. Gen J.F.C. Fuller, wrote the true objective of war is not military victory but the peace that follows it. Amen. Besotted by tribalism and propaganda, we often forget why we are fighting and what changes the current war will bring. We think killing fellow humans is a noble quest rather than the basest Stone Age behavior. Click for Full Text!
A Costly and Prolonged Cold War Now Seems a Certainty Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:51:07 by Charles_Byrd

No one knows how the war in Ukraine will end, but there is one post-war certainty: there will be a prolonged and costly Cold War between the United States and Russia. In an interview with David Ignatius of the Washington Post, who has been doing the bidding of the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency for several decades, Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of a long-term goal of deterrence. Ignatius took this to mean that the Biden administration will make sure that Russia should not be able to rest, regroup and reattack. Ignatius is joining the likes of such Cold Warriors as former secretary of state Condi Rice, former secretary of ...

Xi Jinping Lures CELAC Summit to Embrace Belt and Road Initiative Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:46:11 by Charles_Byrd

Authoritarian Chinese leader Xi Jinping participated in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) summit last week, encouraging the Western Hemisphere to adopt the Belt and Road Chinese debt-trap scheme and stating that China views the region as a key partner in enhancing solidarity. CELAC is a left-leaning platform that can be likened to the Organization of American States (OAS). It is presently conducting a head-of-state conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina, hosted by socialist President Alberto Fernandez. Argentina is a Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner, as are various other members of the coalition. Click for Full Text!

Six of seven western states that rely on water from the Colorado River have reached consensus on a model to dramatically cut water use in the river basin, after the federal government called for action last August. The states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming jointly submitted a letter on Monday to the Bureau of Reclamation that outlines a Consensus-Based Modeling Alternative (CBMA) for Reclamation to evaluate and incorporate into its development of a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) to revise current Operating Guidelines (07 Guidelines) for Glen Canyon Dam at Lake Powell and Hoover Dam at Lake Mead. Trench Warfare as Precursor to Peace, or a US Regime Change? Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:42:16 by Charles_Byrd

I believe the Ukraine situation will be post-war sometime in 2023. This contradicts the recent words of the NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg and last years statements by US CJCS General Mark Milley. The recent Judge Napolitano interview with Scott Ritter is invaluable. Ritter, who has studied this situation in depth, and US warfighting and war-making for decades, explains that the war should be finished as early as August 2023. Interestingly, he notes that both Zelensky and General Zaluzhnyi have made similar projections. Click for Full Text!
MIT Climate Researcher Links Global Warming to Colder Februaries Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:38:18 by Charles_Byrd

An MIT climate researcher is claiming that global warming is leading to a shift in winter weather going forward. Judah Cohen, the director of seasonal forecasting at AER (Atmospheric and Environmental Research) and a visiting professor at MIT believes that, due to global warming, February might replace January as the coldest of the winter months. This could mean that the world may expect more events like the great Texas Freeze of February 2021, when renewable energy sources failed, leading to the death of nearly 250 people. Even as the National Health Service struggles with a shortage of doctors, the British government has ordered medical schools to hold to a previously announced cap and admit no more than 7,500 medical students this year. The cap was put in place to limit the cost of educating medical students. It costs the government £160,000 (about $200,000) to educate each new physician. Click for Full Text!

Why the End of the Petrodollar Spells Trouble for the US Regime Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:32:53 by Charles_Byrd

On January 17, the Saudi minister of finance, Mohammed Al-Jadaan, announced that the Saudi state is open to selling oil in currencies other than the dollar. There are no issues with discussing how we settle our trade arrangements, whether it is in the US dollar, whether it is the euro, whether it is the Saudi riyal, Al-Jadaan told Bloomberg TV. If the Saudi regime does indeed embrace substantial trade in currencies other than the dollar as part of its oil-export business, this would signal a shift away from the dollar as the dominant currency in global oil payments. Or measured another way, this would signal the end of the so- called petrodollar. Click for Full Text!
After months of obnoxious pro-Ukraine jingoistic war propaganda, Welt suddenly admits to its centre-right audience that it's "essentially impossible for Ukraine to win" Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:30:53 by Charles_Byrd

Since the war in Ukraine began in February last year, Welt has relentlessly funnelled jingoistic Anglosphere war propaganda to its centre-right German readership. They reprinted this pro-Azov Battalion editorial complete with National Socialist symbols; they achieved a kind of ecstatic climax during the counteroffensive last September, when they announced that a turning point was at hand; and they have been among those predicting that Russia is on the verge of running out of missiles and artillery shells any moment now. Chinese Province to Let Unmarried People Have Children to Tackle Falling Birth Rate Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:26:36 by Charles_Byrd

Health authorities in Chinas southwestern province of Sichuan will permit unmarried individuals to have children, raise a family, and qualify for benefits previously allocated only to married couples in the most recent attempt to boost the countrys plummeting birth rate. Although the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mandates that only married women are lawfully permitted to give birth, record low marriage and birth rates in recent years have prompted the provincial authorities to revise a 2019 rule to include singles who want to have children.
