A federal judge in Florida on Tuesday partially blocked the state from enforcing its recent ban on people under 18 receiving gender-transitiong care such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy, allowing three transgender children to continue with their treatment while he hears a lawsuit challenging the law. The preliminary order, from U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle in Tallahassee, applies only to three transgender children in the lawsuit and their health care providers. It will remain in effect while the judge considers a lawsuit by seven families. The other four families did not join an emergency bid to block the law because they do not expect to need gender-affirming care in the ...
Advocates of ‘reasonable’ gun control laws don’t want any firearms at all Post Date: 2023-06-06 18:12:53 by Charles_Byrd

Gun control advocates keep claiming they just want reasonable gun control, but self-defense advocates are understandably skeptical. New York and New Jersey cover their states with gun-free zones to the point of making concealed carry impractical. Hawaiis Legislature is now proposing to charge permit holders $1,000 in fees. None of that is reasonable. Nor is it reasonable when President Biden keeps talking about banning all semi-automatic guns, which account for about 85% of handguns sold. Click for Full Text!

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit heard appeals Tuesday of Connecticut girls who sued for being "consistently deprived of honors and opportunities to compete at elite levels" because of a state policy allowing boys who identify as girls to compete in girls' sports. The 2nd Circuit announced in February the full court would rehear the case after a three-judge panel of the court ruled against female athletes Selina Soule, Chelsea Mitchell, Alanna Smith, and Ashley Nicoletti in December of last year, saying they suffered no legal injury. From the late-1980s until the early 2000s, the Cypherpunks a group of cryptographers, mathematicians, computer scientists and activists worked to build what they referred to as a crypto-anarchist Galts Gulch in cyberspace. This virtual place would be one where individuals from around the world could communicate and engage in commerce, with property rights protected, with contracts enforced, and with its own native digital currency. These Cypherpunks are widely credited to having significant involvement in the development of (or influence on) projects such as Tor, anonymous remailers, PGP for email encryption, OTR for chat encryption, BitTorrent, Wikileaks, ...

A few months ago, Mike Rowe stumbled upon a 2011 video of himself speaking in front of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee during the Obama administration about the mindset of government toward skilled trades. His argument was that skilled trades were the key to saving our economy, not those jobs that require a four-year degree. His argument fell on deaf ears. Click for Full Text!

The Cooperative Capitalism of Adam Smith Post Date: 2023-06-06 17:55:41 by Charles_Byrd

Important people in history are typically commemorated on their birthdays. But some have unknown birthdays, making that tradition difficult to honor. For example, Adam Smith, historys most famous economist, illustrates such difficulties. Some sources list his birth as June 16, 1723 while others put it on June 5 of that year (due to the use of different calendars). Still others say we dont know when he was born but give one of those dates as when he was baptized, of which we do have a record. Despite that problem, we are certain that this year is the tricentennial of Adam Smiths birth, making this a very appropriate time to remember him and celebrate his valuable insights. ...

Former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks said she thinks former President Trump is toast after prosecutors secured a tape recording of Trump discussing what seemed to be classified material on a potential military strike in Iran. This evidence just adds to the mound of stuff that already exists, and no one piece is the be all and end all, but when you put them all together, the case is so strong. You cannot imagine his getting away with this, Wine-Banks said on MSNBC. Click for Full Text!

Let’s Not Pull the Pin on the Grenade to See What Happens Post Date: 2023-06-05 18:53:59 by Charles_Byrd

Allowing Ukraine to join NATO is akin to pulling the pin on a grenade and waiting to see what happens. The threat of Ukraines admittance to NATO was one of the stated reasons that prompted Russia to invade Ukraine. Pro war advocates claimed this was nonsense and there was no plan to admit Ukraine into NATO. That claim was dubious at best. Still, if there were discussions and negotiations taking place regarding Ukraines admittance into NATO, that discussion ended when Russia invaded Ukraine. If Ukraines admittance into NATO was one of the issues that caused the war to begin, threats to allow admittance would only prolong the war or end any future peace treaties. It became ...

The White House doctor for former President Barack Obama and Donald Trump has long questioned President Joe Biden's ability to hold up at his advanced age, but this week's fall shows the people that love him need to step in to stop the "shame." "To think that this man thinks he can be president at the age of 86 when he's 80 right now, could be in office for another six years, is just malpractice on part of the White House in the West Wing to allow this to be happening, for him to even be talking about running for another term," Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, told Fox News' "Hannity" on Friday night. "Somebody needs to be held accountable. ...

"The process has failed time and time again," the Utah Republican said on Fox News's "Sunday Morning Futures." "Democrats and Republicans alike have refused to engage in actual compromise and instead decided to fund everything or as much of everything as they possibly can without economizing. Nobody in the world gets to do this." Click for Full Text!
