A Trillion Dollar Rescue for Wall Street Gamblers Post Date: 2008-04-17 07:24:13 by A K A Stone

If the move to a Unitary Executive of unfettered presidential power frightens you, America's radical right turn to Unitary Finance should compound your fears--and your debts as well. The financial events of the last two weeks of March 2008 demonstrate that the "economic royalists" and "money changers" whom Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) drove from the temple of finance have returned to mismanage our economy into dire straights of unprecedented risk--debt creation, euphemized as "leveraging" and "wealth creation." The few checks and balances that remain in the way of the financial sector's increasingly centralized planning, especially at the ...
Six US cities tamper with traffic cameras for profit Post Date: 2008-04-13 22:58:39 by A K A Stone

Six U.S. cities have been found guilty of shortening the amber cycles below what is allowed by law on intersections equipped with cameras meant to catch red-light runners. The local governments in question have ignored the safety benefit of increasing the yellow light time and decided to install red-light cameras, shorten the yellow light duration, and collect the profits instead. The cities in question include Union City, CA, Dallas and Lubbock, TX, Nashville and Chattanooga, TN, Springfield, MO, according to Motorists.org, which collected information from reports from around the country. This isn't the first time traffic cameras have been questioned as to their effectiveness in ...
House Dems Proposing Commission to Investigate Warrantless Spying, Still Reject Amnesty Post Date: 2008-03-12 07:33:30 by A K A Stone

Not only shouldn't companies that helped the government's warrantless spying on American citizens be given retroactive amnesty, the government should establish a national commission --- similar to the 9/11 Commission --to subpoena documents and testimony in order to find out -- and publish -- what exactly the nation's spies were up to during their five year warrantless, domestic surveillance program. In other words, House Democrats aren't planning a compromise on telecom amnesty and are actually going on offense to find a way to learn more about President Bush's five-year secret "Total Information Awareness" program. At least that's what's suggested ...

More than 4,500 cameras in Chicago public schools are being connected to police headquarters and the city's 911 center in a technological upgrade designed to improve safety, officials said Thursday. In an emergency, arriving officers also will be able to view real-time images from the cameras on screens in their squad cars. "The key is getting the information to the police officer in that car," said Mayor Richard Daley. Cameras belonging to the Chicago Transit Authority and other public agencies have been linked to the city's 911 center, and devices in some public buildings also have been connected as Daley seeks to consolidate video surveillance. The mayor, who made ...

A man who claims to have reduced his waste to nearly nothing out of concern for the environment now faces a lawsuit from San Carlos for canceling his garbage-collection service. Eddie House, 53, says he was shocked when he was served with a lawsuit Sunday at his Cedar Street home. The lawsuit, filed by San Carlos Deputy City Attorney Linda Noeske in San Mateo Superior Court on Jan. 22, seeks a permanent injunction forcing House to maintain garbage service. City officials are also seeking to recoup from House the costs of the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims House broke the citys municipal code requiring all residential, commercial and industrial properties to contract with Allied Waste ...

This morning, at 11:30 a.m. I have a trial in Vinton, Iowa. Donna Holman and I were cited for Parking for the Purposes of Advertising at a Hillary Clinton event at Vinton Elementary School. Townspeople, teachers, and authorities were livid because our Truthvan was otherwise legally parked in a prominent location in front of the elementary school. Yet we did not set the agenda. These same people seemed comfortable enough to have a baby-killer speak inside their school while complaining about the display of abortion outside. They are pro-choice about killing babies but not pro-choice about displaying the babies they kill. Advertising is not an illegal activity, but we were ...

A 75-year-old woman was arrested at a Clearwater McDonald's drive-through over the weekend because she wouldn't pull her car forward. Authorities said Jean Merola, a grandmother of eight, was arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused an officer's orders to move her car while she waited for the coffee and fries she ordered at the drive-through window. Merola said the McDonald's employees told her to wait there for her food. A Clearwater police officer was waiting behind Merola in line. He asked her for her license and registration. "I said no. I'm not giving you my registration and my license. What did I do that was wrong?" Merola remembered. When ...
The Ominous Message in Padilla Post Date: 2008-01-24 10:16:44 by A K A Stone

Yesterday the presiding judge in the Jose Padilla case sentenced Padilla to 17 years in jail. Supporters of the war on terrorism might be tempted to smugly believe that the conviction and sentence vindicated what the government did to Padilla. They do not. What happened to Padilla continues to hang over the head of every independent-minded American like a Damocles sword. The reason that our American ancestors added the Bill of Rights to the Constitution was twofold: (1) they didnt trust federal officials when it came to their liberties, and (2) they understood that the greatest threat to their freedom lay with federal officials. Thus, while they believed that a federal ...

While we are being distracted with the theatrics of these long months of presidential canidates, the grave issues in our nation (purposefully?) are being ignored. The latest antics has Michigan (in ecomomic free fall) ignored by the party (Democratic) that once represented the working man. This because of rules (?) that punished Michigan for holding their primary too early. Now they are told they cannot send delegates to the National Convention. That's par for the course - why would the voice of the dispossessed be represented? View full size Jeffrey, age 49, lost his auto plant job in Aug. He has had to move in with his mother. Since "unrestricted' private ownership of guns clearly threatens the public safety, the 2nd Amendment can be interpreted to allow a variety of gun restrictions, according to the Bush administration. Post Date: 2008-01-14 06:58:34 by A K A Stone

Since "unrestricted' private ownership of guns clearly threatens the public safety, the 2nd Amendment can be interpreted to allow a variety of gun restrictions, according to the Bush administration. The argument was delivered by U.S. Solicitor General Paul D. Clement in a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in the ongoing arguments over the legality of a District of Columbia ban on handguns in homes, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times. Clement suggested that gun rights are limited and subject to "reasonable regulation" and said all federal limits on guns should be upheld. "Given the unquestionable threat to public safety that unrestricted private ...

Major allegations of vote fraud in New Hampshire are circulating after Hillary Clinton reversed a mammoth pre-polling deficit to defeat Barack Obama with the aid of Diebold electronic voting machines, while confirmed votes for Ron Paul in the Sutton district were not even counted. According to a voter in Sutton, New Hampshire, three of her family members voted for Ron Paul, yet when she checked the voting map on the Politico website, the total votes for Ron Paul were zero. With 100% of precincts now reporting, the map still says zero votes for Ron Paul as you can see below. It's not as if Sutton had a handful of voters like some other districts - a total of 386 people voted yet we ...
Fox News Used Planted Actor In Focus Groups Post Date: 2008-01-07 08:47:49 by A K A Stone

The credibility of Fox News is pretty much close to zero. It was bad enough that they refused to allow Ron Paul in their NH debate forum, but now they have been caught planting an actor in their supposedly random focus groups. Frank Luntz one of the chief propagandists for Fox News who organizes these focus groups has been caught planting people in focus groups in a clear attempt to distort reality. During tonight's Fox News GOP debate, Luntz organized a focus group to provide feedback from so called random Republican voters. However, one of the people in the focus group was also used in a previous focus group Luntz organized for the September 5th, 2007 GOP presidential debate. Take a ...

(Translation) Professor T. Nakayama: "The issue of illegal immigration is a burning one in the United States right now. In fact, it had become one of the top issues particularly with the Republican side of the race for President. What is happening is that the main frontrunner contenders on the GOP side (in particular) have had to take strong positions on the illegal immigration issue. Many of them are proposing strong measures. But this is just the tactic to gain the nomination on the GOP side. What will happen then, of course, is that after securing the nomination, they will return to a more moderate position on immigration in the General Election when they go up against the ...

House Passes Job Bias Ban Against Gays Post Date: 2007-11-07 20:34:57 by A K A Stone

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Wednesday approved the first federal ban on job discrimination against gays, lesbians and bisexuals. Passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act came despite protests from some gay rights supporters that the bill does not protect transgender workers. That term covers transsexuals, cross-dressers and others whose outward appearance does not match their gender at birth. The measure would make it illegal for employers to make decisions about hiring, firing, promoting or paying an employee based on sexual orientation. It would exempt churches and the military. After the 235-184 vote, supporters are expecting a tough fight in the narrowly divided Senate, ...

Rich tells the paper, I think if you legalize that, youve got to legalize some other things that are pretty unsavory.

A California-based pro-family activist is outraged that a San Diego public school teacher is teaching third graders that homosexuality is acceptable, and that a San Diego news website is glorifying the teacher's indoctrination techniques. A website called Voice of San Diego recently profiled a third-grade teacher, Mick Rabin, who uses his classroom to promote homosexuality to his young pupils, according to San Diego-based pro-family advocate James Hartline. Hartline says parents need to know what is happening in public school classrooms, and demand control over their tax-funded schools. Hartline says the teacher has been getting away with this for years, and has now been glorified by ...
